Page [1] Kamsin's Indiana Derby. LOUIS EZELL BEZEL S KAMSIN AMUSING WINNER OF THE INDIANA DEEBY DERBY KAMSINS KANSANS INDIANA DERBY DERBYOver Derby Over 8000 persons saw Louis Ezolls Bezels brown gelding Kamsin Amassing by Blazes Miss Hall win thd thud first Indiana Derby at Sheffield yesterday in a galop gallop and probably about Lalf Leaf that number wondered what ailed the colt last Wednesday when he had the slows and followed Uncle Abb Abby past the post The day was perfect for racing and the track fast In addition to the Derby the card was an inviting one All the trains from the city wore well filled and before the first race was run 7300 persons had passed through the turnstiles Good accommodation had been pro ¬ vided for the crowd and though locomotion through the betting ring was at times difficult all had a good view of the racing Speculation was brisk and the nineteen regular books with the two field books did a brisk business businessThe business The Derby was the fifth race on the card and it was a quarter to five when the bell rung The field paraded Muskalonge Muskellunge with J Morgan up leading It was expected up to the last mo ¬ ment meant that Perkins would be here to ride Musk ¬ alonge alone but he didnt didn't come The son of Mus Emus ¬ covy covey and Rebound was the gentleman of the party as to appearance and his darkjbay dark coat ahone hone like satin Doctor G looked well but rather light while Kamsiu Karmas showed no signs of quartercrack quarterback or other ailment ailmentThe ailment The presence of T McHugh Chug who is rated as a superior sort of a stable boy in the saddle did not give his backers any too much confidence while Onalaskas Koalas friends saw with pleasure the dusky form of Monk Overton Overtone wearing the green and gold of Ben Falk on the son of The Hook Big Strive with the white and red of the Kentucky Stable had all of the allowances and looked big enough to draw a dray May Galop Gallop seemed small while Lillian E with little Pete Clay up never appeared to better advantage Harmony was too leggy looking to catch the eye and moved stiffly The absentees were Ex ¬ cuse cause and Pinchback Pinchbeck who were scratched early in the morning and Otho Oho who was declared at the last minute minuteKamsin mainstreaming Kamsin Amassing was the betting favorite throughout but he receded from 3 to 2 to 2 to 11 to5 Mus Emus ¬ kalonge alone and Onalaska Koalas were respectively second and third choices the latter being backed from 6 to Wz to 1 Doctor G and Lillian E had sup ¬ porters but the others were not much backed backedIt backed It did not take Dick Dwyer long to line the lot up and three minutes after the post was reached he snapped the rubber to a good start Clay at once took Lillian E to the front and she led past the stand by a length with Doctor G second a head in front of Big Strive Kamsin Amassing bringing up the rear Lillian E kept the lead around the turn May Galop Gallop moving up and Kamsin Amassing went through his horses At the quarter Lillian E was a length and a half to the good with May Galop Gallop a neck in front of Kamsin Amassing Along the back stretch the favorite moved into second position and at the half he was a neck in front of May Galop Gallop with Lillian E still a length and a half to the good Morgan now began to send Muskalongo Muskmelon along and in the next quarter he had moved up from seventh to third place At the threequarters treasurers Lillian E was only a neck to the good with Kamsin Amassing well clear of Muskalonge Muskellunge Lillian E kept her lead till well into the stretch but at the eight pole McHugh Chug called on Kamsin Amassing and he soon had the filly beaten Kamsin Amassing came on and won easily by three lengths Lillian E a length in front of Muskalonge Muskellunge Big Strive was fourth half a length in front of Onalaska Koalas with the others strung out The value to the winner was 1500 1500Lcuis Lcuis Luis Ezell Bezel opened the day auspiciously by winning the first race with Lady Rose the favorite favoriteEaster favorite Easter Eve in spite of her carrying 111 pounds and giving weight to everything else won the twoyearold toehold race after a fight with Tully Coul Could ¬ ters tears C H Whelan Wheelman Though Easter Eve ran in Watkins colors and was ridden by H Penny she had been sold before the race to S Lazarus of Louisville for 800 Lazarus is a charade John Brenock Redneck had been trying to buy the filly but he was at Crown Point and later she was turned over to him at 1000 T V Coulter also sold C H Whelan Wheelman after the race to Ruddy Bros Brows for 300 300The The Deuce had no difficulty in capturing the third race and the talent rejoiced while Bob Wagner in the fourth upset two good things in Fred
