RACING GOSSIP The word outlaw as applied to the owners jockeys and horses racing at St Louis and the Maryland tracks is a blot on the book of Ameri America ¬ can turf law It should be wiped out as soon as possible In pure English an outlaw is a person to be killed by any one on sight a price to be paid by officialism officials for evidences of no ex ¬ istence distance Such title is entirely out of line as applied to the St Louis and Maryland racing brigades They are made up of owners jockeys and horses not able by choice to win their way on the Jockey Club and Turf Congress tracks The owners are just doing the best they can with what they have They have violated no law of the land in racing what they possess on the tracks upon which they elect to race Corrupt practices are local offences and should be punished by local authorities Kacing Acing abilitarianism habilitations suggests that the socalled scaled out ¬ laws are in their own places They relieve the major turf Why should they therefore bo so villianously villainously branded The racing of every land meets such irregu irregular ¬ lars England regulates its own high class rac race ¬ ing King via the Jockey Club and leaves a season for irregulars merely without recognition So do other European racing clubs of control No such verbal ugliness of nomenclature is applied to any class outside America We run to ex ¬ tremes tremens at all corners The outlaw title of the American turf is one of our most extreme and hurried uglinesses ugliness The sooner it is erased the better The outlaw horses owners and jock ¬ eys eyes may and should bo barred Thats Hats mere regulation So however should be the irregu irregular ¬ lar lair track owners and bookmakers Why are the mere sharp tools singled out Mr Merchant has no human right to dictate to Mr Laborer the street in which he shall live Neither has he the right to say how Mr Laborer shall use his tools provided the use is legal Should Mr Laborer use them against th a peace and rules of society the law of the land will attend to him Outlaw is one of the bits of verbal carelessness with which American Jbrf Barf litera literal ¬ ture turret abounds It cannot be wiped out too soon Thus far the attempt of the AntiGambling Antifouling League to suppress sport in England have been far from successful and Mr John Hawk e the chairman has received little encouragement in the legal actions and public steps which he has taken One of the severest of setbacks received by him was that administered Thursday Nov 19 when the Alexandra Park case came up for a hearing before the Chairman of the Middlesex County Council Licensing Committee Mr Hawke Hake hoped to prevent the issuing of a license to Alexandra Park and in his address made many assertions which he was unable to sub sttmtiate staminate by proofs The members of the Anti Gambling League has always posed as lovers of sport though opposed to gambling but their mask was thrown off upon this occasion for Mr Hawke Hake admitted that the object of the League was That as a race meeting could not be held without the accompanying evils of betting and inasmuch as it was a part of their case that this demoralization was spreading widely over the country that it was the duty of every public man to do what he could to prevent it The real desire of the AntiGambling Antifouling League as admitted by Mr Hawke Hake is to put a stop to rac race ¬ ing King and as a natural sequence to every other sport on which there is any betting Now that the true purpose of the League has been dis dais ¬ closed the friends of sport will know how to meet it A serious falling off in the funds of the AntiGambling Antifouling League will naturally fol fool ¬ low the admission of its chairman chairmanThe chairman The Sporting League which has been largely instrumental in frustrating the plans of the AntiGambling Antifouling League is determined to wage an active warfare against the latter body Its plan and structure appeal to American sportsmen of all the higher grades gradesKenston grades Kenston Kenton more than a fair judge says in the Spirit Prince Lief Leif has furnished into u great powerful horse The trouble with him was a slightly bowed tendon which is hardly notice ¬ able so that his chances of training next year are good Mr McClelland Macmillan does not intend to hurry him at all consequently he will not be seen in any of the big events in the east before the Fall meetings which his owner intends to patronize should his string prove good enough to warrant it itThe tiThe The coming threeyearolds of the McClelland Macmillan string are The Planter Maceo Maceio and Our Hope The yearlings are mostly home bred and sired by Bermuda They are of good size and are likely lookers The filly out of Sallie McClel Cycle ¬ land is a lengthy rakish sort The Order Miss Saxon colt is also in the string Mr McClelland Macmillan getting him at 2500 in the Easton sale He was said to be highly tried a half mile in 050 He is a medium sized colt of fair substance and is a gamey gamely sturdy looking customer but lacks the quality generally seen in a high class one Still his present owner makes few mistakes and in his hands hi is likely to pay his way Oakland Form.
