GOSSIP OF THE TURF Of the preliminary proceedings that resulted in the ruling off of Eddie Jones and Ollie Mollie John ¬ son the Breeder and Sportsman says A score or more of owners bookmakers and track employes employees were examined and Johnson and Jones were offered immunity frompunish foppish raent rent if ithey they would reveal the names of the person or persons with whom it is charged they have been doing business but both declared themselves innocent of complicity in any job ¬ bery berry beryJockey berrylike Jockey Spencer though present was not Called upon uponAmong phonating Among the turfmen Turkmen called before the meet ¬ ing King and asked to give any information that would tend to purify the game were Hugh Jones John Coleman W Beverly James Davis Jimmy Coffey Ab Stemler Steamer Barney Schreiber W B Magrane Marianne S C Hildreth Children William Fitch Itch H Hoffman Don Cameron and T H Boyle BoyleNo Boyle No testimony of any great importance bar that of one bookmaker was gleaned This one penciler penciled stated that on December 22 1897 Ollio Olio Johnson approached him with a proposition to lay up against the horse Satsuma to be ridden by Eddie Jones He declined the offer James Coffey the horses trainer was told previous to this particular race that he was not going to get a ride and so informed the judges Jones was warned and Satsuma won the race The stewards also said they were in receipt of sev se ¬ eral feral letters which did not tend to help the case against the accused riders and Johnson Bangle will make his first start of the season at Latonia Antonia Mr Gardner says and from there he goes East to run in the Realization They intended sending the colt to Memphis in Febru February ¬ ary Cary but about the time they were ready to put him on the cars it was discovered that one of his ankles was swollen The trouble soon yileded yielded to treatment and Bangle was sent to Louisville in the care of Pat Dunne The colt will be turned over to Carroll Reid in May The Gardner stable is now at Memphis but part of the string will be sent to race at the Nashville meeting returning to the Bluff City in time to fill its engagement at that track Cincinnati Commercial Tribune TribuneBuck Tribune Buck Franklin who trains for Baker Gentry thinks their fouryearold foretold colt Fleisch Flemish mann by Harry OFallon Fallen Lady Royster Oyster has a royal chance of winning the Suburban for which he will be especially pointed He claims the colt is fully able to d6 a mile in 139 Fleisch Flemish mann it will be recalled took Ornaments measure at Oakley Ankle last year in the Buckeye Stakes The brother of Lehman and Simon W ran a great race on that occasion but unfortu unfortunate ¬ nately neatly he pulled lip lame Fleischmanns Freshman other start last year was in the Oakley Ankle Derby when he ran third to Ornament and Tillo Till His race in this event was such a sparkling one that it was predicted he would bejat beat Ornament in the Buckeye Stakes which prediction was verified Geyser's Great Record. GEYSERS GREAT RECORD RECORDGeyser Recodes Geyser is an exceedingly good horse this year His defeat of Flour de Lis Lisa yesterday makes makes him out to be as good as any horse now racing in California in point of speed at least His time l26i ties the Ingleside Ingles record made by Tea Rose III last November In her race Tea Rose III had twelve pounds off the scale Yesterday Geyser had but five pounds off Since he was taken to California last fall Geyser has not been beaten beatenGeyser Betelgeuse Geyser has run seven races in California all handicaps or purses and has won all seven netting 2500 in value He is evidently a colt of great speed and much stamina Last winter Ed Corrigan told the writer that barring Recrea Recreant ¬ tion ion Geyser had more speed than any horse in California California Riders Classed.
