JOHN BRIGHT A SURPRISE SURPRISEHawthornes Hawthornes Hawthorns card was a light one and there was little to attract a crowd save the prospect of seeing whether or not the threatened raid would take place The day was a most beauti beauties ¬ ful foul one with its cloudless sky and gentle breezes Everything passed off smoothly and racegoers racehorse took heart saying The magnates have finally come to an agreement whereby our sport will be perpetuated perpetuatedTommy perpetuated Tommy Burns rode the first two winners The horses in the first race ran one two three by the betting bettingJohn betting John Brights Rights win of the third race looks mighty bad for somebody Saturday last car ¬ rying crying 92 pounds to Pounds 90 he was beaten by four lengths Now he came out and with thir their ¬ teen pounds the worst of the weights as against that performance not only defeated Found but actually ran in faster time although the Haw ¬ thorne thorn track is slower than Harlem Burns was up on him Saturday and it may be argued that a light boy cannot do the horse justice Found led by six lengths at the quarter John Bright second two lengths better tban ban Eddie Jones The latter closed at tho thou half and Found was only three lengths ahead of the others abreast Jimmy McCormick had bet on Eddie Jones and the horse made play on the upper turn but John Bright ran away from him easily and at the last eighth sending Found to the whip won the race with plenty to spare spareEspionage spearheading Espionage won the first race easily although leaving the post she was headed by Aprils Lady and Ostra Rostra Prince Harry was in the middle of the bunch up the back stretch but Thorpe got the rail into the straight and Dunnes Dunes colt was easily second from Aprils Lady who had a drive with The Dragoon Frank Ireland dropped out of the race at the last quarter and Nancy Seitz Seize did not do much better betterAbuse butterburs Abuse led all the way and won in a walk Sangamon Seagram and Joe Ullrnan Illyrian were respectively second and third the first threeeighths then Abe Furst Furs passed by and was second at the fin ¬ ish dish by several lengths from Whitcomb Witco who necked out Joe Ullman Pullman for third money San ¬ gamon gammon quit badly at the last eighth Michael G finished absolutely Charabelle Harebell got away badly badlyTommy badly Tommy Burns stole the race on Moncreith Noncredit trailing to the last turn and when the others swung wide taking the inside so that he went from last to first position by carrying his horse at top speed Moncreith Noncredit was all out at the finish but Burns managed to keep him going long enough to win Friar John made the pace for seveneighths seventieths Forte alternating with Paul Kauvar Kava in second position All through the home stretch the horses were as nearly together as would they have been if hooked to a fqurin furring hand and the race was an excitingone exciting Marcus Cartwright Cartridge had a big bet on Paul Kauvar Kava an ¬ other plunger got down on Friar John so that the public got a good price against the favorite favoriteSatsuma favorites Satsuma heavily backed won the fifth race in such a close finish that some dissatisfaction was expressed over the placing of Storm King second instead of first Satsuma and Osmon Olson failing to join the others at the post there was breakaway which destroyed the webbing When the barrier rose 3atsuma was off an open length behind all the others W C T Storm King and Braw Lad raced abreast to the middle of the upper turn then W C T fell away beaten and Braw Lad struck the home ¬ stretch in front with Storm King lapped on Satsuma had gradually worked up and here was two lengths behind Storm King The three last named horses fought it out for another fur front were locked in the final strides and it took the judges decision to tell which horse had won Osmon Olson third was running strong at the finish Eugenia Wickes Wickets made no showing whatever whateverStamina whatever Stamina was the only animal which during the day appeared to put it on she starter She looked to break with a running start At any rate she was never headed after passing the barrier Defender II was second for three eighths where Old Fox took his place At the final sixteenth Air Blast who had been prac pac ¬ tically tidally left at the post got up through a vigor ¬ ous onus ride all the way and ran second Kunja Kunai in a drive was third and paid 6 to 1 show showThe sheathe The cut in at Hawthorne is for one day only Tuesday fourteen bookmakers were doing business businessJenkins businessmen Jenkins was the new knight of the pigskin pigskinRichard pigskin Richard Dwyer was a visitor Notes Of The Turf.
