Plans for the Chicago racing season of 1900 were officially announced B a turd ay. Hawthorne, Harlem and Lakeside will give stake events, and dates for the meetings at these tracks have been fixed. Arrangements to this end were agreed neon yesterday at a conference between Richard Fitzgerald, President of the Chicago Earing Association, and Secretary M. NatbanEon, representing the Harlem Jockey Club and Lakeside Jockey Clnb. Lakeside, as usual will open the season. Its spring meeting of fifteen days will begin on May 10th or 12th. On May SOtb, Decoration Day, either Harlem or Hawthorne will open, and the two tracks will alternate with meetings of two or three weeks each until October 27th, Lakeside following with its fall season of fifteen days and closing November 15. It was also pait of the agreement that should the Washington Park Clnb decide to race, Harlem and Hawthorne will waive claim to the twenty-five days usually selected by the big Sonth Side racing organization. Secretary Nathaneon made public yesterday the conditions of the spring stakes for Harlem and Lakeside. They number seven for the Harlem track atd five for the Lakeside coarse, the former including tee novel Turf Congress SweepBtakes, of which a share is divided among the trainers and jockeyB of the placed horses. It will be worth over $3,000. Three of the stakes are for $2,GG0 each and three for $1,800 each. Those for Lakeside are for $1,8C0 and $1,500 each. President Fitzgerald stated last night that the Hawthorne stakes were already being prepared and that he would tncounce the conditions within a week. He said they would be worth at least aa much as those offered by Harlem, and would likewise include a Turf Congress Sweepstakes with $2,0CO in added money. Both the Weet Side Jockey Clubs intend their present istue of stake offerings imply for. the spring meetings. Before July 1st each will issue a formidable array of reliable fixtures to be contested for during the summer and fall meetings. These plans show an appreciation of the bocm locally accorded the sport lest Beaspn and insures for 1900 a year of high class racing. Purees will aho he increased and every effort made to attract the very best material. Entries to the Harlem and Lake-Bide stakes will close March let. The Hawthorne stakes may clete before that date.
