After a long: delay the entries to the stakes for the Latonia spring meeting have been made public and are such as to assure a fine meeting oyer the popular Covini ton coarse. Yesterday's Enquirer says: "Assistant Secretary John Dillon of the La-tonia Jockey Club yesterday annonnced the list of entries for the spring stakes of 1900. As has been the case in years past, the stakes compare favorably with any in the west, and a grand season of racing is promised at the coming meeting, which opens during the latter part of May, to continue nineteen days. A new feature of the racing this season will be the Turf Congress Handicap at a mile and an eighth, valued at $2,000. The Turf Congress Stake will be of unusual interest to the horsemen and general public from the fact that $3C0 of the winnings, according to the ccnditions of the race, shall be divided among the trainers and jockeys of the first three horses. "In the list of ev«nts announced yesterday are the Derby and Oaks for 1901, which have b»en quite liberally patroniaad in the matter ef high class entries. The number of entries to each stake is gives below : "Clipsetta, for two-year-old fillies, 48; Harold, for two-year-old colts, 44; Covington Spring Selling, for two-year-olds, 42; Tobacco Selling, for three- ear-old colts and upward, 67; Turf Congress Handicap, for three-year-old colts and upward, 42. "Stakes for 1901 : Derby, for three-year-olds, 78; Oaks, for three-year-old Allies, 47. "Nearly ail the big stables in the west have representatives in these events, and a glance ever the names of the nominators will show that the Latonia track is as popular as ever with the old-line guard. These calculations are printed daily. Nothing is hidden. All that the staff of the paper knows is put into type. If the selections made nightly are sought by persons outside the daily delivery lines of the paper they will be Bent by Western Union night rate messages (collect) at $5 per track per week. Such service is not solicited, but if it is considered valuable, will be performed. AMERICAN SPORTING MANUAL.
