Bonnie Hallie was cleverly saved at the post, well ridden in the race and came J away on call at t lie head of the stretch. She won like a good filly. Bonitary is a big fine looking p two-year-old and seems to improve with each race. She is a slow beginner and is game and when c the distance .-t retches out will probably be a useful racing tool. Tenny Belle is not much. She b f;ot a flying start, clear sailing and had no excuses. The Bronze Demon was bumped and inter-ered with shortly after t he start. He J looked a trifle high in Hesh and should improve from this race. Walkenshaw had all his speed and hung on better than usual at the end. Cariboo got into a bad mix-up on the first turn and c was sharply shut off. McCann then had to pull up and run around the entire field. This considered. Cariboo ran a good race and finished gamely under punishment. Rosa Diah should have been third. She was interfered with repeatedly in the stretch by Nobleman. The ride on the \ latter was a miserable one. Loudon seemed to have no control over him and allowed the colt to swerve all over the track in the stretch. He did not show speed enough j to keep up with the leaders in the first part of the race, but galloped by them in the stretch as ; though they were tied. Knight was easing him up from the sixteentli post home. Money Muss is a good filly. She raced Sig Levy into subjection in the first three furlongs and then held her own to tin* end. Possart is a big long-striding youngster that improves with racing and likes to go a route. Sig Levy is fast, but seemingly a coward. When he stopped he stopped all over. Lakeside's sixth day produced ■ card of seven races, one of which, The Hammond Stakes. four and a half furlongs, for two-year-olds, was worth to the winner $1,150, to the Bemad horse $250, to the third $100. The day was slightly disagreeable, there being a condition of fog, sun and showers, but the attendance was the usual one. W. H. Jackson. Jr.'s. Tenny Belle, trained by John Brannou. the favorite for the first race, ran as if short. The winner, Bonnie Hallie, had at a previous start at the present meeting run a good second, and she carried the money of the wise ones. Dr. RowelTs Bonitary ran second and kept up the credit of the stable. Barney Schrieber, big and lusty, was out and so was the "original Kit" looking fit to run or do most anything else. Gold Fox won as he pleased, the horse being in fifth position up the back stretch. From the last sixteenth home he was flying. H. Robinson got in again and Walkenshaw ran second. paying 6 to 1 place, 3 to 1 show. Nobleman, tha strongly backed second choice, showed that the distance was too far or else an incompetent jockey destroyed his chance. Old Refugee refused to break until his nose was in front, and Mr. Dwyer might have left him at the post without incurring the displeasure of anyone. Four youngsters being scratched for the Hammond Stakes, left Garry Herrman a 1 to 4 shot. He won handily, as usual, after allowing Money Muss and Sig Levy to lead into the straight. One would think that Mark-lein's colt was in some handicap, as the boy made a move to shake him up when close in and Garry Hermann was buck jumping. Sig Levy ran disappointingly, he stopping badly in the last eighth. Possart, who ran third, is a fair sort of looking two-year-old. May Beach won running away. The sensation of the day came in the fifth race when Oweusboro. owned by Mrs. P. M. Civill, a 30 to 1 shot went out and took command after a half mile had been covered and held the lead to the wire. Microscope, another 30 to 1 shot, was second, the favorites, Schnell-laufer and Ben Chance, finishing third and fourth. Under the non-syndicate system of betting the price of the first two horses would most likely have been 100 to 1. Owensboro was backed for $100 at S to 1 to Bhovbya nartv taking a chance, but the straight play on him amounted to little. For the sixth race Hop Scotch opened at 20 and was soon knocked down to 6 to 1. Tillie W.. the favorite, could get no better than third, but she ran the best race, inasmuch as from the inside position at the post she was crowded out and knocked away back. La Princessa at stages was many lengths in the lead up the backstretch, but the finish with Barney F. was close. Notes of the Turf NOTES OF THE TURF. Jockey Charley Thorpe, on his way to St. Louis to ride Yellow Tail in the Inaugural Handicap today, was a visitor at Lakeside yesterday. Thorpe has fully recovered from the bad fall he had at San Francisco and stated positively that this would be his last season in the saddle. He will ride at St. Louis until the Hawthorne meeting opens and then finish the reason and his career on the Chicago tracks. Maximo Gomez was ineligible for the first race at Morris Park yesterday. He was scratched after betting had been going on for ten minutes and after consultation between the stewards and George Wheelock, president of the Metropolitan Turf Association, all bets were declared off and new odds laid. This action was taken by the bookmakers and not by the stewards. Racing at Newport begins Monday. Many horses are now at the track and a big contingent will arrive from Louisville Sunday and Monday. An open betting ring is promised. Jacob Holt-man is to do the starting. Banastar was bought for and is now the property of Clarence A. Mackay, son of the California capitalist, and is intended to be the nucleus of a new and select racing stable. Charles T. Patterson is reported to have sold his much advertised Hanover— Workmate colt. Handwork, to J. W. Rogers for $15,000. M. P. — No place odds was laid against Topmast in the third race at Lakeside Tuesday. Morris Park Form MORRIS PARK FORM. New York, N.
