Page [1] Cambrian's Monadnock Stakes. CAMBRIANS MONADNOCK STAKES C The attractions at Hawthorne yesterday were of a high order and a crowd of at least teu thousand persons was on hand to witness the fine sport The track under the scorching rays of a blazing sun had dried out entirely and was only about a second slow A strong hot wind prevailed throughout the afternoon blowing down the long stretch at great speed and re ¬ tarding the horses somewhat in the final quar ¬ ters run runThe The Monadnock Handicap was one of the best contested races seen hereabouts this year and compared favorably with the Young and Wheeler Handicaps run recently at Washing ton Park The winner Cambrian put up a high class race winning in impressive fashion and in such a manner as to leave no doubt that he was the best horse at the weights Good old reliable Advance Guard was there with his usual stretch run but the track was just a trifle too slow for him to perform to bis best form formAfter After a short delay at the barrier Holtmann got the big f eld off to a fair start with Louis ¬ ville darting into the lead closely attended by Cambrian with Robert Waddnll Favoniust Vnlcain and Jiminez well up in the order named Bending the first turn Cambrian easily darted in to the lead opening a gap of two lengths while Jiminez moved up and passed Louisville for second position with the latter lapped on Vulcain Along in here Robert Wad doll and Advance Guard brought up the rear within hailing distance Down the backstretch the Tichenor horse running well within himself easily clung to his advantage with little change in the next four horses Wheeling for the run in Jiminez began to falter and gradually re ¬ ceded Louisville closely pressed by Yulcain taking the vacated position In the mean ¬ time Advance Guard John Bright and The Conqueror II had gradually moved up wheeling into the straightaway about four lengths back of the leader Along toward the last eighth it was patent Cambrian would win barring accident as he was Tunning true and strongly and showing no signs of distress Oi the others Vnlcain was the first to crack and fall away beaten and Louisville was beginning to sprawl Advance Guard moved up fast on the inside rail with his usual dash while John Bright and The Conqueror II were closing with resolution although the latter had lost ground by a wide swing at the stretch turn going almost to the outside rail Cambrian main ¬ tained his lead to the end finally winning by one length while Advance Guard coming fast and true beat out the faltering Louisville by a length The latter beat John Bright by a neck only for third money while he in turn finished only a neck before The Conqueror II with Hernando a length away Both John Brigh and the Vincent colt would have passec Louisville in a stride or two The son 1 of Sir Dixon was given a poor ride Rob ¬ ertson taking the extreme outside wit him throughout the entire flight Hernando ran a surprisingly good race being only beaten three lengths all told by the winner Rober I Waddollran a far from satisfactory race and was a never a contender and the same may be I said of Favonius which at the weight was thoughtjby a number of shrewd turfman to have a good chance of finishing inside of the money The most exciting finish of the day oc cnrredlin the fifth race when The Pride and Rival Dare passed so closely together over the line that none but the judges could separate them The verdict was given to the Ryan gelding who won a lucky race by an eyelash Rival Dare was the best and had Robertson used the same energy as Woods displayed on the winner in the closin g strides she must certainly have won Maggie Davis led by a fair margin up to the runin where Rival Dare moved up and throatlatched The Pride who had gotten to Maggie Davis saddlegirth a furlong out Along in here The Pride began to waver slightly and the Bolich Sweet mare began to gradually draw away from him the Sloan mare having fallen slightly away In the last fifty yards to the surprise of all present The Pride slowly but surely picked up his lost advantage simply because Robertson became too confident and before the latter could rally his mount for a final effort Woods had shot The Prides nose first over the line with Maggie Davis one length away It looked like a clear case of tossing the money off through carelessness Robertson being soundly hissed for his puerile effort Pirates Queen was only beaten two lengths by the winner and is ready to win when placed right Harlem's Stakes Fill Well. HARXEMS STAKES FIII TVEM Nominations to the teu additional stakes of the Harlem Jockey Club closed July 18 with a total of 31T entries Tne average of thirtytwo including the steeplechase events is highly gratifying to Secretary Nathanson in view of the fact that stakes closing so soon before the decision receive no complimentary entries and that every horse named is ready to go the post and has a winning chance under the conditions In class these stakes are fully up to the stand ¬ ard marked by the fixtures that closed last February Nine of the latter remain to be de ¬ cided during the summer and fall maetings at Harlem These with the four stakes just closed give Harlem a list of nineteen special valuable events to be run during the remainder of its season as follows Threeyearsolds and upward Stakes Miles Added Added20th 20th Century Handicap 1316 5000 5000Harlem Harlem Handicap 118 4000 Chicago 4000Chicago Stakes 1 2500 2500Austin Austin Stakes 1116 1500 Maywood 1500Maywood Handicap 1100yds 1000 1000Prairie Prairie State Stakes 118 1000 Garden 1000Garden City Handicap 34 1500 1500All All ages agesCicero Cicero Stakes 1 1000 Speed 1000Speed Stakes 34 1000 1000Threeyearolds Threeyearolds Oak Park Handicap 118 1000 1000Riverside Riverside Stakes 1 1500 1500Twoyearolds Twoyearolds TwoyearoldsYoungster Youngster Stakes 58 1500 Proviso 1500Proviso Stakes 1116 1500 Junior 1500Junior Handicap 34 1500 Sapling 1500Sapling Stakes 12 1000 Aspirant 1000Aspirant Stakes 58 1000 Forward 1000Forward Stakes 78 1000 1000Steeplechase Steeplechase SteeplechaseGolf Golf Handicap Short Course 80 September 80September Handicap Full Course 800 800The The Harlem Summer Meeting opens August 5 and for the first two weeks Secretary Nathan son announces the following stakes to be run Monday August 5 The Golf Steeplechase Handicap Short Course 800 added addedThursday Thursday August 8 The Youngster Stakes for twoyearolds 5 furlongs 1500 added addedSaturday Saturday August 10 The Austin Selling Stakes for threeyearolds and upward 1 116 miles 1500 added addedTuesday Tuesday August 13 The Aspirant Stakes for twoyearolds 5 furlongs 51000 added addedThursday Thursday August 15 The Riverside Selling Stakes for threeyearolds 1 mile 1500 added addedSaturday Saturday August 17 The Harlem Handicap for threeyearolds and upward 1 18 miles 4000 added Brighton Beach Form Chart.
