The largest crowd of the week, bar Labor Da;, waa out to Harlem yesterday and wit-1 uesscd a ciackirg gocd day's sport. The track I was lightning feat and two track records were emeebtd to imitberf ens, Jimitez lowering the mark for one mile and seventy yards from 1:43 to 1:4196 aid Nellie Y addeil cbippirgoff three-tenths of a eecrnd frcm the half mile figures and asking it i'M. The star event of the day was the Sapling Stakes, a half mile scramble for two-j ear-olds, eome of the best babies in the west going to the post. Ed Austin was made the choice in the betting but the best be could do was to run third, Nellie Wad dell jumping into the lead at flag dip and fairly smothering her field with speed. She led by frcm two to three lengtl B all the way and won eased up by three frcm Megi, wbo beat Ed Austin a length and a half for second place. Magi put up a fine per. formance and undoubtedly Tan the best race of her career. Ed Austin was badly outrun in the first quarter, but closed up etroDgly, although hevaenctgccd enough to beat Mai. I in the final stride. FmetLion about ran hie race. Boeewar was alwajs outrun. Jiminez was in grand fettle yesterday, showing a turn c f i peed in the third race, a daeh of one mile aid Bcventy yaids, that has rarely been witnessid tnj where. Be led by a good safe margin from start to finish, winning easily by twoand a half lengths fromFedeial, which beat Charley O'Brien five lergtbs for second place. Coburn cn federal made a determined effort to close on the winner in the last quarter, but gave it up ae a bad ji b lei g before the last sixteenth bed been reached. There was a spirited struggle for third place between Charley O'Biien ai d Argregor in the last quarter, the former gainkg the verdict on the post by a head. Eurnie Eunton's race with Money Muss on August 31 put her on keen edge, and she dashed off six fuiL ngs yesterday in the sscond race in the fast time of 1:12Jb, beatiig Headwater easilj by tvo lengths, the latter finishing six in front of The Lady for second place. Bnrnie Bunton Ehowed the most speed for the entire rcute, and tiy as he would Knight on Head water could not close up on her in the final eighth. The Lady ran an indifferent race, and besides being interfered with waB far from be. ing up to a gcod bruisitg contest. Miftrel II. end Wyetb are the first two-year-olds lhat were asked to go a mile in the west thiE year. The former v.ith bis light impoBt of seventj-two pounds surprised nearly every one pn sent by taking the lead in the fifth race at fleg fall end mainteiDirg it to the end, winning under persuesion by two lengths from Anthracite which beat Brutal a head for second place. The laEt nenud wes undonbttdly the best, was given an incompetent ride by Banscm who not only had the gelding cut off badly at the first turn loeitg a number of lengths but cr uldnotget him into his stride until well into the backstretch. By the time be got the gelding to extending himEelf tl ere was almost twelve lengths separating him fr m the leader. He made up much ground after the half-mile poet had been reached, but it took too much cut of him and he had nothing left to flniah with. Kut ja ran a fair race, tut swerved slightly toward the outside rail in the closing strides. Wyeth, con-eiderirg Ihe weight he carried, put up a fair performance. Mejur Dixon clc Bed up ground while coming down the last quarter. Belle of Kitco drrppsd cut of the clouds in the sixth race, as she did occe bffore in the early part of the season, and wen in a rather bandy fashion at long edds. She came strongly in the laBt eighth, beating Dodie 8. to the wire i by a length, the latter finishing one in front of I Btep Onward for second place. The last named J ran a sparkling race and would certainly have I won with any kind of racing luck. She waa almost last when going down the backstretch, but picked her field up fast in the last quarter and was running past horses at the end. Both Buzzer and Mabel Winn quit badly when the pinch came. An unwieldy field of eighteen maiden three-year-oldB lined up to the barrier in the first race a dash of six furlongs. The crowd backed everything in the race, but the talent hit upon the right one, Delia Ostrand, who ran a clever race and had no trouble at the end in winning by three lengths. Haidee waa second, a length in front of Biverdale. Haidee showd a fine turn of speed for five and a half furlongs, but faltered when the pinch came. Biverdale was right there all the way. Birch Tree and Utilize both well up for five furlongs, fell away biaten in the final eighth. Besides bujing Federal for $5,000 yesterday Sam Hildreth ran Denman Thompson up to $3,000 after his winning race and became his owaor at that figure. After Belle of Minco had won W. Carroll bid her up to $800, a run up of $200, and Is now her owner. Jockey Bullivan was fined $100 by the judges for fouling The Lady with Anna Bain. The starter fined Coburn $25 for misconduct while at the post and Mclnerny waB set down for the week for a similar offense. A little fellow named Mayo, employed aB an exercise lad by one of the stables at the track, was struck by a Wi consin Central train yeeier-day and instantly killed. A Reces at Kinloch A RECESS AT KINLOCH. Bacing at Kinlock has been discontinued temporarily, the announcement being made that it will be resumed next week. This is no doubt mainly due to the failure of the etewardB of the Western Jcckey Club to restore to racing privileges the list of owners desired by the Kin-loch officials. Their action in this respect was certainly surprising in view of the general impression that their course in admitting a big list of owners to Western Jockey Club privi leges was due to a desire to aid Kinlock. As it is the Kinlock people are no better off in respect to horses than they were last week, and they have stopped racing awaiting the decision of the courts in the cases now pending affecting Del-mar. As to how the action of the Western Jockey Club is viewed in St. Louis the Bepublic of yesterday says: "Whi'e nearly forty horsemen, who dsstrted a lucerative field at Delmar a month ago and are now stabled at Kinlocb, were denied reinstatement by the Western Jockey Club at its monthly meeting, John B. B-attoo, who has kept on Bteadily racing at Delmar, an unrecognized course, was taken unconditionally into the fold by the same body. Bratton signalized his reinstatement by winning two purses at Delmar and $2,100 in bete. "To add to the ridiculous side of the whole matter, Fucino, the only new entry at Kinloch yesterday, who was reinstated, was denied the right to start by Judge Murphy upon the latter discovering that the gelding's entry had been refused at New Orleans last winter by Judge Bees. Thus of all the fresh entries at Kinloch published yesterday morning not a single animal was able to start. "At the same time that Bratton was reinstated a lot of owners, trainers and j ckeys from the Canadian and Newport met tir gs were also replaced in good standirg. Applications from ! . I OOKTIHOKD OM 8SOOMD PAQB, I v A RBCKSS AT KINLOCH. Continued from First Page. tke onsers Btabled at Kinloch wire all turned dews, audmany horsemen who have been living from band to mouth lately in the hope of rein-etatraaect are tkaa placed in a very awkward position. vGreat disappointment was felt by the Einloch management orer the unexpected action of the Jockey Club, and they are at a loss to understand the motives of the Chicago body. Judge Joseph Mnrpby, wbo worked hard to get tha horsemen reinstated, was much astonished over the turn of affaire, and stated that he thought Kinloch had been treated very badly. " 'When I was in Chicago last week,' be said, 1 went to the offices of the. Western Jocky Clab with President Bush of tha New Orleans sparse. Secretary Nathanaon of Harlem and Montgomery of Memphis. We had a short con saltation with Mr. Enhl there, acd all three promised to vote for the reinstatement of the horses stebled here. Mr. Perkins of Latonia had ale premised to vote in the affirmative. ' 'This made four out of the six votes in the Jockey Club, and I received positive assurances of soccers. These premises seem to hava been disregarded, however, and I find but two owners have been replaced in good standing, while a lot of others, stabled elsewhere and that can do this mooting no good, have been reinstated without prejudice.' " 'Kinloch has been treated very shabbily by the Western Jcckey Club in this matter, and we have received a bad deal from that body all roand. No assistance has been given ub other than permission to give $300 purses, and I can aot understand the matter at all. There is great disappointment among the horsemen hero oyer the matter.' "The same sentiments prevailed among the horsemen. When the first hopes of reinstatement were held out, maoy horsemen deserted Delmar and stabled at Einloch, thinking that action would be taken on their cases immadi-ately. As they will be in rather an unpleasant situation if they return to Turf Cong -ess tracks, they are in anything but a pleasant frame of mind over the matter. "The whole question Beems to hinge on Kin-loch's ability to take care of itself. Had Del-mar been closed, thus mnking Kinloch all powerful bore, it could certainly have had anything It wished at the hands of the Jockey Club. As It seemed to bs getting the wortt of the war, however, and was not, consequently, an important factor in the racing situa'ion at large, the Western Jockey Club seems to have decided to let the track look out for itself. "Holding back the question of reinstatement until an injunction was issued against the Del-star coarse, and then refusing to reinstate the horsemen stabled at Kinloch when it found the j i Delmar injunction was disregarded, teems to indicate that the Western Jockey Club has kept well posted on the local situation, and haB used the Kinloch track as a cat's paw to be i made much of if it proved a factor hre, and to j be left to its own devices if it got the worst of the local fight."
