PRICE 5 CENTS Winning Two-Year-Olds "WINNING TWO-TEAR-OLDS. . r In tha tablo below Daily Eaoing Fobm presents tbo records of tha two-year-olda that won more or less famo this year. It does not contain the names of .all two-year-olds that havo won racee, but of those left out none has bean .suspected of future greatneeB. No. doubt several in the table will improve their records through winning at New Orleans or San Francisco bitween now and January 1, 1902. It contains the natnos of 130 two-year-olds, which jointly won, up to and including Dacember 5, 736 races. Running mostly over minor tracks, but running like a good filly, speedy and a fine stayer, Hnntressa enjoys the diatinction of having landed tha greatest number of races, the incomparable Endurance by Right standing second in that particular. Tha leaders in racoB won in the last four years were as follows : "Year. Horses. The real stars of each season will generally be found in the number of horBes having only a moderate number of starts against thoir names. Yankee, Hcno, Nasturtium, Blue Girl, Leonora Loring, Cunard, Goldsmith, Allan-a-Dale, Compute and CruzadoB serving as illustrations. About the only one of tho recognized stars of the year that break over this rnio is Endurance by Eight and it can not rightly bo said that she was severely campaigned. The always placed list is small, tha good colt Doyle's Commoner, now dead, Yankee, Goldsmith, Bonner, Endurance by Right, Buccleuth, j La Montagne, Dr. Burns and Howoll W. being those that never ran worse than third. Having in view important possible action that may mark the annual meeting of the Western Jockey Club next Monday a gentleman of high standing in the affairs of the turf writes aB follows to Daily Racing Foeji: Memphis, Tenn., December 4. A great many articles hava appeared from time to time in the various papers about the fight between the two racing bodies of the west namely, tha Western Jockey Club and Turf Congress tracks. The clubs racing under the Western Jockey Club are: Washington Park Jockey Club, Chicago Jockey Club (Hawthorne), Harlem Jockey Club, New Memphis Jockey Club, New Louis ville Jockey Club, Latonia Jockey Club and the Crascont City Jockey Club. The Bt. Louis Fair Association was originally one of the clubs of this organization, but, after the purchase of the Fair Grounds by the firm of Cella, Adler & Tilles, was withdrawn, and this club or firm about furnished all the strength of the Turf Congrats tracks, composed of the following clubs: St. Louis Fair Association, Delmar Jockey Club, Nashville Jockey Club, Newport Jockey Club, Highland Park Jockey Club (Detroit). The trouble seemed to originate in the assignment of dates, which docs not seem practical over the territory covered by thaBe variouB organizations. Chicago, will not ba dictated to and will vary likely open the season of 1902 some time in the month of April. St. Louis will also, with her three tracks, want to open one of them about tha same time, and both of these cities will give continuous racing from then on to the middle of November. Cella, Adler r Tilles built tha Delmar race track in St. Louis, and when they realized they could not get dates from the Western Jockey Club they purchased the Fair Grounds and organized tha. movpment-against the" Western Jockey Club. They enlisted the good will of many horsemen, who cast their lot with tham. They made such a good fight that today, if rumor be true, they are to ba recognized and admitted with a representative to tho Western Jockey Club. If they do dasert the other organization they will certainly leave it in a bad way. In fact it would seem that the other clubs must bow their heads to the power and race under the rules of the Western Jockey Club, if they race at all. The St. Louis management must realize the strength of the Western Jockey Club. Surely the conqueror would not surrender to the conquered. They fought a brave battle, but probably think like many other good generals that they had better make terms while they can without getting hurt than to go on with the chance to lose all. They may not be as strong as they were a year ago, and if success goes for anything, tha Western Jockey Club is much stronger than it was when organized some nine or ten montliB ago. There is no danying its strength. Few are the horsemen who disqualified themselves last spring that would not ba glad to be in good standing again with this body, and it is only pride that keeps the majority from asking. The Western Jockey Club can do much good by allowing no club under its jurisdiction to give a race of less than $300 added by the club. As to the date assignments, the jockey clubs of each city should be the best judges of tne number of days they should have and what dates they wish to give their meeting. In cities where more than one track is in operation under the sanction of tha Western Jockey Club they should agree among themselves about the dates and the Jockey Club grant the dates as agreed, and if they cannot agree then the Western Jockey Club should divide the dateB as they think juBt. To treat the horsemen fair, there should not be less than two race meetings in progress after the 1st of May, and after the 1st of June three. There are probably 3,500 horsea preparing to race in the west next seaeou. Of this number about 750 will bo ready to race the 1st of April, 1,500 the 1st of May, and about 2,500 tho 1st of June. Few racetracks in tha west can accommodate 1,000 head of horses, and as six races a day is the average program, if there is over 1,500 head at any track, many of tha stables will not ba able to make expanses, and in many caBea can not even get to start a horse, yet have them ready and be anxious to run. OOMXINUBD OX SECOND tAOM. A SUGGESTION FROM MEMPHIS. Continued from first page. The Western Jockey Club should Btrive to have pure racing and force the clubs to hang up good purses, make racing clean and high claeB, grant license to clubs that will give only the right kind of racing nothing less than $300 added to any event, and that race Btrictly under the rules of the Western Jockey Club. The American Turf Congreas was destroyed on account of the ill feeling caused by that or-ganization trying to assign open dates to various clubs. It does not seem practical or possible to do justice to horsemen and clubs and confine racing to one track after tha season is, thoroughly o.pan. t Yearlings at Sheepshead Bay YEii.KIiINGS AT SKEEPiHEAD BAY. The pleasant weather that prevailed at Shoepshcad Bay Monday had tha affect of bringing tho trainers and racers to the open in con -spicuous.numberB. Tho track was harrowed during the morning, and, being in prima shape, scores of racers were sent to exercise ovor it, There was no speoding done, of course, but several sets of yearlings were sent to small gallops through the. front stretch, Trainer William O. Scully showed a set of four yearlings as follows : Bay colt, by Faverdale Adore. Bay colt, by Longflight Hoyden. Chestnut colt, by Onondaga Bay Belle. Brown colt, by St. George Maria Jensen. The last named, which is a brother to Black Fox, is a crack on"" looks, and easily the pick of a fine quartet. He is the property of W. B. Fanehawe, and cost $3,000. Glannellie and Josepha have been seat to the Holmdel farm in New Jersey. Glannellia will be raced no more, . but JoBepha will be trained by Mr. Scully during the coming season. J. H. McCreery has taken'charge of tha L. M. Meyers' horses, lately in the hands of trainer Scully. They are comfortably quartered in the old Albert Cooper stable on the backstrotch, and are composed of Baron, Leonora Loring, Electre?s and eight yearlings. Trainer McCreery is well pleased with their present condition. A. L. Aste has a lot of seven handsome yearlings that on breeding and looks are as promising as any sat at the track. Their trials have been satisfactory and they are : Chestnut colt, by Bassetlaw Recolloction. Chestnut colt, by St. Carlo Piquant. CheBtnut colt, by Watercress Typhoon. Black colt, by Fresno Sister Warwick. .Bay colt, by Fitz James Springlike. Bay filly, by St. Andrew Glad Eyes. Chestnnt filly, by Goldfinch Margerique. Tha last named is a half sister to Nasturtium, and in conformation and general make-up she is not unlike her great relative. Mr. Aste is wall satisfied with his youngsters, and as he has had his share of success with thoroughbreds he nas every reason to hope for the best. At J. H. McAvoj's establishment a group cf six yearlings were seen.' On inspection they proved to ba: Bay colt, by Troubadour Armita. Brown colt, by Kingstock Emeline. Bay colt, by Aura Virgie Castleman. Bay filly, by G. W. Johnson Hirney Hymal. Bay filly, by Lord Esterling Crescant II. Chestnut filly, by Dr. MacBride Titania. They are a, smart looking lot as a whole and several of them are particularly promising. The colt by Aura Virgie Castleman took my fancy as soon as he was led out. He has fine size and a look of quality that is most striking. He has been satisfactorily tried, and I should be disappointed if he does not race. The bay colt by Troubadour Armita is of the blocky sort and has a wear and tear look that should make him show to advantage. The brown colt by Kingstock Emeline is a sturdily built youngster and shonld do the establishment credit. The fillies are a smart trio, and, wintering well, should go to the races with success. Mr. McAvoy is fond of training yearlings. He has patience and perseverance, and his youngsters should show up in the spring in proper shape. Thomaa Green has a pair of handsome yearling fillies that were seen jogging around the track. They stepped their paces neatly, and looked the part of good material. Their descriptions are as follows: CONTINUED ON SECOND PAGE. YEARLINGS AT SHEEPSHEAD BAY. Continued from First Page. Chastnat filly, by Chorister Ocean Queen. Bay filly, by King Arthur Ventnor. The fhst-nsmed miBB turned a quarter in 24 seconds in her trial, and the King Arthur Ventnor youngiter did the trick in close to the same time. Trainer Green will leave in a day or two to have a look at Mb good racer, Dr. Barlow, which is wintering near Glens Falls, N. Y. The Doctor went amiBS at Saratoga just as he was ready for a race, and was sent to Glens Falls to be fired and blistered. He is ready to return to his home quarters, but the trainer thinks some walking around in the snow will do much toward hardening and improving his legs. Trainers A. J. Joyner, Frank McCabe, Peter Wimmer and others had sets of yearlings on the track during the morning, and in the mild atmosphere the young things frisked about gallantly. There are many improvements going on at the course, and it will put on a smarter appearance during the coming season than ever before. The club has purchased more ground on the outside of the backstretch, where new stables will be erected. A fine stable is being built for the S. S. Brown racers, and Trainer Beter Wimmer will occupy it bb soon as it is finished. There will be twenty-two BtallB for the horses, besides a kitchen and living quarters for the men and boys. CHICAGO, ILL,, DECEMBER 6, 1901. Notes of the Turf NOTES OS THE TURF. Robert Waddell, the crippled winner of the American Derby, was shipped from Hammond, Indiana to "Pa" Bradley's farm in Virginia last Wednesday afternoon. The gelding is still in a bad condition although it is the opinion of a number of horsemen that saw him put on the cars that he will recover and race again. Hia shoulder has not yet mended much and it was with difficulty that he was taken from Lakeside to Hammond, Indiana. He stepped with the injured leg with much difficulty and hopped rather than walked from the track to the car. One-half of an express car was used for Wad-dell's stall. Owing to the fact that the gelding could not stand strong on all four legs and would thus be likely to fall with the lurching of the car, the sides and end of the car were well padded. "Possum," the stable man who waB left at Lakeside to care for Robert Waddell, went east in charge of the little gelding. "Pos-Bum" was instructed to keep Robert Waddell lying down as much as possible during the trip in order to provide against any injury through the movement of the train. Ex-Senator M. L. HarbeBon and J. L. Ellis-ton, of Covington, were at Lexington, Ky yesterday taking depositions in the $12,000 suit against the Latonia Jockey Club, filed by Hart Gibson, Jr because of the death of the race mare Pirate Belle, which was killed by running into a fence at Latonia. Depositions Of Milton Young and "Bill" Lester, William Field and others were s cured each in regard to the value of the filly. The estimate ranged from $5,000 to $12,000.
