Northern Star got away running, made the most of his advantage and after forcing a terrific pace to the stretch, contrary to expectations, he came away decisively in the stretch run and is a much improved stayer this year. Astarita did not strip satisfactorily and is somewhat gaunt and low in flesh, but in spite of the pressure to overhaul the winner she held on gamely. Invincible finished going fast and ran an extra good race. The Guardsman, closed, a big gap .from a- bad start. Clorita, nearly left, made up .ten lengths on-^a.. leaders. Illyria moved up fast on the stretch turn and was prominent in the stretch, but quit badly in the last furlong. Ohnet decisively outjumped, outraced and outstayed his field, went right after the lightly weighted pacemaker, McGrathiana Prince, always gaining at the hurdles, and had enough left to win out by a scant margin. McGrathiana Prince, very leniently treated in the matter of weights, was probably the best today, but dwelling too long at the very first jump he did not take kindly to his work for the remainder of the journey. Draughtsman was skillfully reserved and well in hand in behind the pacemaker for a mile and. a half, but failed to make good in the stretch although he finished close up and is a genuinely improved horse this year. Broomstick won all the way, coming away with ridiculous ease when straightened for home, was never extended and is evidently of high-class. Tim Sullivan, badly treated at the start, was unable to improve his position until after going the first quarter, when he suddenly moved up on the inside with a rush which landed him second at the wire. This feat was remarkable and unexpected and stamps him as far above the average. Dimple displayed a lot of speed in her early effort to overtake the winner and was tiring at the end. At that it appeared as If Jenkins was caught napping as the Ally put up a game fight to retain her advantage. Highball worked a rough journey and in spite of a weak finish was making up ground very fast in the last furlong. Contentious went wide on the turn and finished out the journey in resolute fashion. Strephon ran a very bad race. Jacquin has been highly tried and is one of the highest priced colts out. He ran as if sore, getting away badly and showed a fine burst of speed, which he was unable to sustain. He will do much better than this and may develop into a crackerjack later on. Irish Lad, from an outside position, cut across the field to the inner rail into the lead, which he retained throughout under a great ride after one of the gamest exhibitions of courage and endurance ever seen anywhere. He is undoubtedly one of the greatest three-year-olds of the year. Gunfire followed him over to the inside at the start and was held in a good position for seven furlongs, where she moved up, but was crowded out by Oom Paul, losing several lengths and was compelled thus to bump her way through a narrow opening but she went after the winner and was slowly but surely wearing him down at the end. Heno closed fast at the end after making much up up ground. Injunction also closed up a lot of ground from the far turn and would have been third in another stride. • Oom Paul helped to destroy the chances of the horses occupying inside positions at the start, when he took a short cut across and after racing in close company with the winner for seven furlongs suddenly started to run out, which intention Bullman quickly frustrated, sharply interfering with the favorite. Vigorously driven, he held on fairly well in the long drive home. Hunter Raine got away badly and was closing up like a whirlwind at the end. Colonel Bill displayed a phenomenal burst of speed when he moved up into a contending position and his race was a much improved one over his recent efforts. Articulate suffered severely from early crowding. Yardarm was nearly thrown early and was last in an instant, went hopelessly wide on all the turns and practically had no chances under the circumstances Tgniter was a prominent contender three furlongs from the finish, where Irish Lad suddenly bore over to the rail compelling him to pull up. Meade on High Chancellor. ; which started in the first race and called him up to explain. After hearing what he had to say, Judge Bryan enjoined him to accept as few mounts as possible at Hawthorne, and those that he does accept must be submitted to the judges for their/ approval, and it will be at their discretion whether he can ride them or not. j J.ordan will not hereafter be permitted to start at Hawthorne until properly schooled to the barrier. Middleton & Jungbluth's string of horses arrived yesterday at Harlem. J. Ownbey arrived yesterday- from Latonia with four of his horses. Secretary Hachmeister, of the St. Louis Fair Grounds, wired Judge Bryan yesterday that jockey Dominick had been suspended by starter Dade until June 1. As the Hawthorne management intends to uphold all rulings made by officials on other tracks, Dominick will not be permitted to accept any mounts other than those from the stable of his contract employer, F. Cook. Rankin's poor performance yesterday was attributed to the fact that the colt is developing a quarter crack and owner Arthur has decided to give him a rest. J. A. Drake's American Derby candidate, Savable, was worked a half mile in 52 seconds at Hawthorne Wednesday. Brooklyn Winners. BROOKLYN WINNERS.
