King Pepper has improved in behavior at the post and his quickness in getting away gave him an immediate advantage which the field could never overcome. He led unextended throughout and was much the best. John A. Scott ran an extremely game race under trying conditions, finished gamely and was much the best of the others. Ascension closed a big gap from a bad start and finished with a rush. Our Nugget showed superior speed and held on well. Highlander, nearly left, improved his position and pulled up without a sign of lameness. Demurrer betrayed not a vestige of his former speed. Hamburg Belle, a grand filly, quickly went to the front and simply played with her field, easing up in the last quarter to a canter. Destiny beat the barrier, but was left as If anchored by the winner and after a vain essay to keep within striking distance, she commenced to tire at the end. Dimple ran in spots and was badly ridden. After she appeared done for on the stretch turn she suddenly came again and was wearing Destiny down fast for second place. Mordella, a slow breaker, closed up much ground and finished going very fast. Silent Water bolted on the stretch turn, losing a half dozen lengths, yet finished close up.
