Hamburg Belle was the magnet that attracted many nf tlie 13,000 spectators to Sheepshead Hay today. In receipt of an age and weight, allowance from Halifax', her victory was a foregone conclusion. She won pulled up in slow time. rouutaiiililue, the crack western two-year-old. for which John A. The Forsythe yongster carried immense wagers. Seweli rode him and rode hm badly Jn the opinion of the majority of the sjeeta"ors. Rockingham Park Will Not Close July 4: Directors Reconsider the Action of Saturday and Decide to Continue the Meeting until July 21 ROCKINGHAM PARK WILL NOT CLOSE JULY 4. Directors Reconsider the Action of Saturday and Decide to Continue the Meeting Until July 21. Salem, N. II., July 2. The announcement Saturday evening that the present meeting at Rockingham Park would be wouud up on Wednesday next evidently did not meet with the approval of all persons concerned hi the control of the plant, for it was announced at the track today that the meeting would run along until July 21, the date originally set for its closing. The directors of the New England Breeders' Club held a meeting Sunilay night when this decision was arrived at. The determination to continue tlie meeting lias met with great favor with everyone racing here and the people living adjacent to tlie track. In view of the fact that betting is not permitted and the management being under very heavy expense It has been decided to cut the value of the overnight purses in half. Thus far not a murmur has come from the horsemen over this cut and it proves that they are willing to make some sacrifice to make this magnificent race course a big success. The value of the handicaps, however, will not be lessened. Today opened cloudy, but as the afternoon wore on the sun came out from behind the New Hampshire hills and the balmy weather was all that could be desired. The track had dried out over Sunday, but was still a trifle slow. The attendance showed some improvement over Saturday, and this gave the management some encouragement. The Peace Treaty Handicap, for three-year-olds and over at six furlongs, was keenly contested and it was the only race that so far has aroused auy real enthusiasm. Jimmy McLaughlin's Oxford and Incantation fought it out closely , throughout the last furlong, the former getting the verdict by a nose. American Turfman Meet Death Abroad: John E. The regulars at Konil-worth Park this afternoon were reinforced by those of tlie Canadian contingent celebrating Dominion Day who 'took advantage of the cheap rates and enme across the border to witness the sport at the local track. The talent bad a good day, as four out of tlie six favorites rewarded the form followers. The hardest jolt received by the public was the failure of Dollie Dollars. Embarrassment was another disappointment. Just as the starter sprung the barrier, Knibarrassmeiit wheeled and got at least ten lengths tlie worst of the start. Barney Sehreiber returned from New York this morning. While there he purchased the two-year-old filly Miss Officious, by Meddler Ballyhoo. .Tas.
