Hissed and Weeps Frank Gill Wins the . Lynbrook The Southold Goes to ' Coy Maid. New York, October 27. Gorgeous autumn weather innl one of the most interesting cards of the fag ad of the season attracted a big crowd to thp Jamaica track this afternoon. The best racehorses i'W in training, including the stars of the juvenile (tad all-aged division, were engaged in the Lyn-bi-cok and Southold Handicaps. Both features W"-rc won by comparative outsiders in Frank Gill ami Coy Maid and J. L. Mv&inuis, who controls' tuo destinies of this distinguished pair, successfully tgiuecred a double-barrelled killing. With Miller up, Keator was considered only a f -maIity in the opening race. The plungers eagerly incepted 3 to G about him. Davy Johnson bet -1-1,000 at 11 to 20 and Frank Farrell nearly as u uch. Keator refused to break and was left standing still at the start. The big crowd was literally paralyzed at the sight. For the first time in his ireer ' Milter was hissed and, it is said, wept Milerly afterwards in the seclusion of the jockeys' fjifJosure. Bookmaker George Rose this afternoon announced his retirement from the. local' ring. The California layer' is reported to be ?l6o,000 winner on' the sensop.. To the surprise of 'his .friends and business, tu-fcoeiates, Mr. Rose has declared New York -as his w.-sldence find, having gone through the formality hi registering, will stay over to cast his vote for IItig)ies,; the Republican nominee, for governor. Richard Dwyer, the noted western starteraml M. H. Tichenor, of Chicago, were visitors at Jamaica May. Hunt Clubs Have Great Sport HUNT CLUBS HAVE GREAT SPORT, I Washington,' D. C, October 27. Splendid crosscountry racing marked the second day of the United Hunts meeting at Beunlngs. The weather was perfect, the course in superb condition and almost 1,000 persons were on hand. The attendance included all of the smart hunt clubs along the Atlantic seaboard and they gave the fifteen books in lipe all the business they could handle. For the principal race there was no betting at post time. Bound Brook, the choice in the ring, was taken violently sick just before the race was called and could not start. It was decided to refund the money that had been wagered on the race and make no further attempt to book on it. Wpolgatherer won after one of the most sensational steeplechases seen all season, the four starters running closely bunched throughout. Victor Froment, of New York, won the Grand Military- Steeplechase .with The Virginian, riding the last turn of the field with a broken collarbone. Ills mount fell, after going six furlongs and Humming Bird, the only other -starter, took a big lead. Mr. Froment remounted and catching the leader tiring in the stretch beat her home without difficulty. The Hampton stable won two races again while Billy Garth scored his first success of the meeting- 'with Adams. A niilftary steeplechase has een added for Monday, making seven races for the Hosing day. Will Allow Mrs. Bergen $50 per Month WILL ALLOW MRS. BERGEN $50 PER MONTH. New York, Octolwr 27. Mrs. Marty Bergen, widow of the once-noted Jockey, has been notified by iljq Jockey . Club stewards that they will allow her $30 a month- for six months. This money will come aut of the fund for disabled jockeys, much of which at least $10,000 came from her husband, who paid .many large lines to the various racing associations during the years he was prominent as a rider. The racing rules do not provide for any such case as that of Mrs. Bergen, who was left in ' destitute condition by the sudden death of her husband. The action of the Jockey Club stewards vas therefore all the more commendable. The amount, small as it is, will help materially to yrry her over tho winter. By the time spring wrnes round, she will have a chance to make proper provision for herself and children. The allowance to jockey Fuller is 25 per mouth for ope year, Instead of $100 per month as was published. ' Tarantella's Fame as a Matron TARANTELLA'S FAME AS A MATRON. Lexington, Ky., October 27. Lady Tarantella, which -got out of the maiden division at Brighton Beach October 3, Is the tenth winner produced by Tarantella, she also being the dam of Pentecost, Handsel, Penury, Souchon, La Creole, Sandpiper, Gulden, Fontanelle and Lubin. Five of her produce aro stake winners and all by different sires. Tarantella ia twenty-oue years old, but is still bale and utfnrty at Hamburg Place. There ia a cbeetnut yvnrllng colt out of her by Plaudit at Hamburg Place and also a weanling chestnut colt by the Futurity winner Yankee.. She was mated to Ogden, inotber Futurity winner last spring. Bad Weather, but Good Sport at Latonia: Tartan Wins with Ease-Pretension Shows His Heels to St. Joseph-John Dillon's Steeplechase BAD WEATHER, BUT GOOD SPORT AT LATONIA Tartar Wins With "Ease Pretension Shows His 'Heels -to St. .Joseph John, Dillon's Steeplechase. Cincinnati, O., October 27. The weather was cold and disagreeable today. Consequently the attendance -at Latouia was light.- Those who did go to the track, however, saw some good racing. The card was;'pne of the best of tile .meeting. John Dillon's victory hi the steeplechase was due to Rejectable's mishap lit the final obstacle. Scops broke down at ;the nintji jump. Pretension had things practically his'-owa. 'way in' the third' race" and won as' his ride? please frojn the heavily, backed St. Joseph, which again was the recipient of a bad ride. Tartan had lit tlfe' difficulty in winning the mile and one-sixteenth race. . Incidentally he made good the convictions st close: observers- that he could have won : yesterday. Oratorian was bid up to $1,000, an advance of $200, but was: retained.. Howard Lewis', trainer for J. E. Wldener, is here In .quest of horses for steeplechaslng. He has .made, offers for Mcllvaln, St. Volma ,and Joe Coyne. Kitty II. was. badly cut down' and will probably have to be destroyed. Marihorean was also cut down in the second race and may be a long tlnie oiit of .training. Steve L'Hommedieu created excitement by attempting to take the betting away from the combination book on! the third race by laying even money against Pretension to win and St. Joseph " to show, lie handled .a good bit of money on the proposition and lost heavily. cook May Ship Yearlings to the Coast COOK MAY SHI? YEARLING'S TO THE COAST. Lexington, Ky., October 27. Fred Cook's-fifteen yearlings, now at the Kentucky Association course, in charge of Charles Dodson, will likely be taken to California by trainer .BUlhillips whoa.;the-laa account, had concluded to campaign his older horse'if on the coast the coming winter. The Cook yearlings have gone through a mild case' Of distemper in the last week and none of them has been recently doing much fast work. Phillips originally intended to leave the youngsters here all winter in'Dodson's care, and he will carry out this program yet If he decides within the next week or two to abandon his California campaign, which he is liable to do as hastily as he conceived the idea of going to- the far West a week ago. Cook will book In California the coming winter and that fact may have something to do with Phillips' movements with the big stable. Two of the yearlings Dodson first took for Phillips turned out to be of "such little promise that they have been shipped to Louisville and will be broken to harness and used as driving horses. A colt by Ben Stroine out of' Marie Shanklln, has worked the best of the lotj going a quarter in :23. He is a half brother to Copperfleld and Benckart and was. foaled the property of a local doctor. Phillips bought him privately.- New Soil on Oakland Track NEW SOIL ON OAKLAND TRACK. San Francisco, Cal., October 27, The prospects for the coming season of racing grow brighter with each succeeding day, and it now looks- as if the class of horses will be the best since- the turf war between the Oakland and Tranforan tracks. The entries close next Monday, and this will, give an additional line on the eastern stables that contemplate racing here. All the big stables that raced here last season will be again represented. There will be also many new stables, Including .those of Sam HiUireth, Enoch Wlshard, C. E. Durnell, Green B. Morris, S. McXaugkton, and J. T. Muir will swell the list of the new comers, and it looks as if Oakland stakes will get about 125 horses from New York, while the middle west should be good 'for 150 more. Jim Grant, the new superintendent of the California Jockey Club tracks, Is at bib post at Oakland, having returned from New: York last Monday. The Oakland track has been reclayed and appears to be in fast condition. It has a soft dressing and should be admirably adapted" io horses that have doubtful underpinning: To Instruct Farmers in Breeding TO INSTRUCT FARMERS IN BREEDING. New York, October 27. There is .a , movement on foot by the turf authorities, of this state to engage two competent men who are familiar with' the most potent strain of blood in thoroughbreds the various families that have proved most successful as-the progenitors, of speed, endurance, bone and substance to Instruct the farmers of New York state the best and most , profitable way to breed-horses. The plan now under consideration is to send two veterinary surgeons throughout the breeding districts and by means of illustrated lectures to show the farmers the best stallions to breed their cold-blooded mares to. . - Some Yearlings Recently Named . SOME YEARLINGS RECENTLY NAMED. Golden Pearl is the name of the yearling half brother to Water Pearl. Golden Pearl is a chestnut colt' by Golden Garter, out of Pearl V. He is thS property of A. J. Joyner, "who paid ll, 000 for'him at the sale of J. B. Haggtn's Rancbo del Paso youngsters at Shoepshead Bay In June, being one of the four yearlings to bring over $10,000 this year. Fred Burlew has claimed Chapultepec as the name for the yearling half brother to De Mund. Cha-pultepec is a bay colt by Gerolsteln GrncJoslty. Burlew paid $2,550 for him. Chapultepec Is the name of the strongly fortified hill, lying two miles west by southwest from the City of Mexico, which was takan by the United States in 1847, during the war with Mexico. For the brother to Bill 'Curtis, Burlew has claimed the name of Reelit. Being by Plaudit, out of Strathreel, this youngster, which brought $3,000 at the Sheepshead Bay sales, gets his name from a combination of the names of his sire aud dam. Burlew probably expects him to live up to the name. If he can reel It off as fast as his sire could he will certainly be no disappointment. Rose, of Ben Strome has been claimed by T. L. Watt . as the name for the yearling filly by Ben Strome, out of Daisy Rose. This Is not a good name. There is too much of it. J. J. Walsh calls the chestnut colt by Henry of Navarre Sheunamere, Henry Navarre, merely dropping the word of from the sire's name. This is bad. In after years it is apt to create confusion.. Lord of the Vale to Race at Bennings LORD OF THE VALE TO RACE AT BENNINGS. Now York, October 27. August Belmont has decided to make one more effort to get a good race or so from Lord of the Vale, the winner of a Saratoga handicap. The- erratic Hastings horse has been shipped from Babylon, Mr. Belmont's Long Island place, to Washington, and when John Whalen goes to Bennings presently with Okenite ho will take tke horse up. Lord of the Vale was sent to Babylon last summer when It became evident be was In no humor for more racing. He has since had the run of the paddocks and his owner hopes he has Improved in temper. Ascot Park Stakes to Close ASCOT PARK STAKES TO CLOSE. The Los Angeles Jockey Club Is In the field with its usual annual offering of attractive stakes, the conditions of which will be found elsewhere In this issue of Daily Racing Form. They close for entries Thursday, November 1, and those owners who design racing their horses at Ascot Park and have not as yet made their entries have little time to spare. The delightful winter climate of Los Angeles makes it an exceedingly comfortable and healthy winter, abiding place for men and horses alike and, to the owner of good horses, there Is held out In these stakes abundant recompense for a trip to the pleasant land of sunshine, flowers and fruit. All ages and classes of horses are skillfully provided for In this stake list and they should receive the most liberal patronage. Exercise Lads Are Promising EXERCISE LADS ARE PROMISING. Lexington, Ky., October 27. There is a plentiful supply of good riding material at the local track, there being more green boys of promise around the stables this season than ever before In the history of colt training here. A majority of these beginners are white and some are unquestionably destined 1 to become crack Jockeys in the next two or three years. They average far above the boretofore stable J boys in intelligence and fully a half dozen of the I number have the appearance of being born horsemen.. r Page 2 DAILY RACING FORM ISSUED EVERY DAY. The system is practically a gold mine for those who are satisfied with making not more than eight or nine plays a week on any track vou operate. This system lias received nothing but the most favorable comments from those who have operated it with wonderful success year after year, and they would not part with the knowledge this svstem book has given them for many, many hundreds of dollars. It will give you more in re-" suits than handicapping, selections and information combined. After you receive the book there is no further expense attached to it, nor any othrr selections required except those that the system gives you for a play. SEND TOR fREE B00KIET Then vou will know all altout the particulars and what it will do for a player who follnws It. It guards against persons overbetting themselves. The selections are not based on selections, jockeys, weights, odds, track conditions, distances, favorites, etc. No doubling, handicapping or "doping" is required. It can be operated with a small capital at any track, poolroom or with a handbook. This is the only system that was ever sold with a guarantee to refund your purchase money at the end of thirty days' trial if a loss could be shown. This alone should convince yon of our confidence in It. Past results will prove It a big money maker. So investigate the Nosall System at once. NDXAIL SYSTEM, GRAVESEND,- N. Y.
