This is the open season fol the introduction of i foolish bills in the legislative bodies now in session in the different state, one of the uatesi come- from Albany, where a bill has been presented to the Son. ue. the purpose of which is to restrict associations conducting a running, trotting or steeple- ( chase meeting so that a greater fee than ¥2 cannot be charged for admission to its grounds and to j the main or grandstand thereon. As the racetracks are private enterprises capitalized and maintained by private means we fail to see where tlie fee charged for admission is a matter lor legislative action. It would be just as reasonable to rule that a theatrical manager who had expended ( a half million dollars in a [flaybouse and an additional large sum to put on a show should nor charge more than seventy live cents to .-ee the play or to pin a limit on the sum dropped in tlie Sunday morning contribution box. —New York Morning Tide graph. Mr. Soley said in the course of his •argument: '•Within a small radius of the track there is a population of 500.000. exclusive of the millions in Creator New York. There Is every reason why the track should have a license and the past discrimination lias been based on nothing tangible or real.
