PRICE 5 CENTS Keep Moving at Long Odds: Daughter of Yankee Wins the Great Filly Stakes KEEP MOVING AT IMG ODDS DAUGHTER OF YANKEE WINS THE GREAT FILLY STAKES. Baby 'olf Scores in the Flying Handicap Jimmy Lane Takes the Steeplechase Rain and Mud. Now York, September 4. This was a day of surprises at Sheepshoad Ray. The heavy rain of the morning and the consequently muddy track was responsible to a groat extent for the failure of four of of the six favorites. The only successful first choices were Jimmy Lane in the steeplechase with which llie afternoon's sport began :inl Right Itoyal In the race at one mile and three-quarters on the turf. The Lazarus horse outclassed the others and won easily. The features of the card were the Oiroa.t Filly Stakes and the Flying Handicap, the former for two-year-olds over the Futurity Course of three-quarters of a mile, and the latter for three-year-olds at three-quarters of a mile over the main course. Of llie eleven starters for the Great Filly Stakes Stamina and Half Sovereign went to the post equal choices, while Bouquet .was backed from 12 to 1 to 0 to 1. The others were all at long odds. Lady Winifred made the running to the stretch, closely followed by Masquerade, Bouquet and Keep Moving. The latter wore down the others and won going away, with ISouquet second and Lady Winifred third. Experts say that Keep Moving's victory was a fluke and that the state of the track and the fact tliajt Stamina, Lady Winifred, ISouquet and Masquerade were apparently not keyed up was responsible. They say a dry track will cause a reversal of today's running. It is understood that Joe Yeager, taking a long chance .on Keep Moving, backed the Hitchcock filly when her odds reached 40 to 1, and it is claimed that he took over $30,000 out of the ring as the result of her victory. I'.aby Wolf, overlooked by the wise ones and the public alike, went to the post unbacked and won the Flying Handicap after a drive with Don Enrique, Faust and Sewell. The favorite was Ited Itiver, but he ran as if short. Mainchance was a real good tiling in the second race, but only a few seemed to know it. He led all the way and won pulling up. Cairngorm, the favorite, finished third. He was held In reserve in the early stages and tired at the end. About 200 complimentary badges issued to politicians, loaned to others and used by them were taken up at the gate today. T. P. Hayes is resting his horses at Empire City for campaigning at Belmont. Another Day of Rain Many Withdrawals Liebert Can Ride for Employer. Montreal, Que., September 4. This was anolher disagreeable day at Itlun P.onnets. Throughout the morning a cold drizzling rain fell and in the afternoon there were frequent showers. The track was deep and heavy and there were in consequence many withdrawals. The attendance was not as large as on the previous day, yet the speculation was brisk enough to keep twenty layers busy, and since five favorites won the public was in a mood to forget the discomforts occasioned by the bad weather. Ormonde's Itight would have won the sixth race had Goldstein not made the fatal error of going to his whip beginning the last furlong, where he had Edwin Cum beaten. Musgrave's finish on Stanley Fay was not a brilliant effort. When he went to his whip he let go the colt's head and Stanley Fay swerved across the track and never stopped until he hit the fence. Jockey Liebert, whose ride on Louis Rooderor on Monday got him into trouble, will be permitted to ride for his employer, A. Molinelli, only. The stewards could find no Incriminating evidence against the lad, but they were satisfied 'the Imw's efforts on Louis Itoederer were not his best. Jockey L. Williams, whose license was revoked by the Jockey Club, was warned away from the course this afternoon. Jockey Criininins was among the new arrivals and will be seen in the saddle tomorrow. Jockey J. Lee and his manager P.en Jacobs, arrived from New York this morning. Lee will remain here until the opening of the Lexington meeting. Secretary Fraser -of the Ontario Jockey Club arrived from Toronto this morning and was busy during the afternoon receiving applications from horsemen for stable room at Woodbine. The officers and crew of the German warship Bremen, which Is in the harbor, will be the guests of the Montreal Jockey Club tomorrow. Leading Jockeys in England LEADING JOCKEYS IN ENGLAND. Judgments Against Bennington JUDGMENTS AGAINST BENNINGTON. New York, September 4. Newton Bennington, who underwent another operation today, appears to be in a bad way financially as well as physically. Judgments by default on two notes aggregating $9,400 were entered against him yesterday. One is in favor of James L. nolland for $3,410 on a note of $5,300, made by Mr. Bennington on February 10 last, payable two months after date, and the other is in favor of Milton Lehman for $3,900, on a note dated November 12, 190C, for $3,000, payable sixty days after date to the order of J. T. Carew, who indorsed it, and which was afterward delivered to Mr. Lehman. Eighteen months ago Bennington had a big string of race horses and was considered a very wealthy man. In the spring of 1900 he sold De Mund, a two-year-old, to Paul J. Ralney for $45,000. Shortly after this sale all of his horses were disposed of at auction. Ill-health followed rapidly the loss of much of his fortune in Wall street. , Page 2 DAILY RACING FORM ISSUED EVERY DAY DAILY RACING FORM PUBLISHING CD. Champagne Charley, Reclare, Eclipse, nenry of Navarre, Crescendo, The Friar, Mesmerist, Bcllario, Hcno and Lady Amelia were all high-class youngsters and most of them were capital raters in their years subsequent to their two-year-old careers, Henry of Navarre having been one- of the best race horses ever bred in America. Heno was an unsuccessful aspirant to American Derby honors in 1902 and a fine racer even if be did fail that on occasion. The record of the Dash is as follows-i'v1?!;!,,,, Jockeys. Wt. Second. Wt.
