GOOD PROSPECT FOR NEW ORLEANS Mr Heaslip and Others Submit Proposals for Leasing Tracks There and Will Probably Succeed Louisville Ky September 2S Samuel F Heaslip and Louis Legarde who arrived here yesterday from N w Orleans held a conference this afternoon with persons concerned in the management of the Cres ¬ cent City tracks relative to the holding of si winter meeting in New Orleans The New Orleans situation war gone over carefully and Mr Heaslip submitted a proiwsition to lease tb y tracks on beluilf of a holding company composed of New Orleans people Nothing definite however developed today Mr Heaslip will return to New Orleans tomorrow and be back hero next Sunday when the matter will again be discussed and in all probability an agree ¬ ment will be reached whereby City Park and the Fair Grounds will be turned over to the New Orleans men having for their aim the holding of a winter race meeting of about sixty days duration durationDiscussing Discussing the matter this afternoon Air Heaslip said It Is the desire of the commercial interests of New Orleans to have a race meeting this winter We will aim to have the meeting conform to tin Locke bill and at the ime time have the approba ¬ tion of the public With this in view we contemplate forming a holding company to lease the two tracks and run the meeting miller our control It is our intention to preserve racing and feature this sport as our special winter attraction to bring visitors to our city cityThe The people of New Orleans desire racing because it brings many visitors to the Crescent City annu ¬ ally I submitted a proposition to those concerned in the Fail Grounds and City Park to lease the tracks on behalf of a holding company consisting of New Orleans business men The matter has been taken uuder consideration by them I believe that matters will be satisfactorily arranged before an ¬ other byI week goes by I will leave tomorrow for New Orleans to dis ¬ cuss further with some associates some minor de ¬ tails in connection with arrangements returning here Sunday when the deal will probably be consum ¬ mated Regarding purses and stakes it is a bit too early to discuss this feature but If we attempt a meeting it will be along liberal lines Thero will however be a curtailment of the previous lengthy racing season seasonTalking Talking along the same lines at Cincinnati last Saturday Mr Heaslip said New Orleans cannot af ¬ ford to let another southern city step In and kill it as a winter resort The legislation against betting was deplored but the measure is not si severe and dras ¬ tic as the multitude imagine Patrons of racing will still be able to bet if the law Is enforced only a different mode of wagering will have to replace the bookmaker with his big slate and stand There are a great many lawyers who believe the law un ¬ constitutional and that may be tested But that cuts no figure in our present plans which I will lay before the men that control the two racing plants Toronto Racing Statistics.
