THE FAD IS TROPHY WINNER OUTSIDER IN THE BETTING TAKES LATONIA STAKES FOK JUVENILES. Cvmbal and Prince Ahmed Win Handicap Features of a Good Card. Former Showing Decided Improvement. Cincinnati, o.. June IP. Probably the best racing card of the current meeting was offered race patrons ihis afternoon and lovers ,.f in,, apod responded ta gratifying numbers in appreciation. Tin- crowd was one of ihe largest sine the opening, despite the strong counter attractions. Including the opening festivities r the North American Turners, wlio will hold forth in this city for the next week. The Cincinnati Trophy, one of the most highly prised stakes for juveniles in the west, was the stellar offering. Contested by the best I'olts in these parts, its running was marked by an upset when The Pad finished Br»t. followed nest closely bv Joe Morris and Dooau. with Kve White, accounted one of the best in this section. I distant trailer. A poor send-off was partially to bhnue for Bye White's showing, as he was last to leave the post. Kroni the speculative standpoint, the race was unsatisfactory t,. tin- betting public, as aside from his inline diale stable connections. The Knd ran unbaekeil and went to the Mat a neglected outsider. Joe Morris and Kve White were the fancied ones, with Prince Imperial and Dona* next in tavor. Joe Morris made a same effort, but it would have taken a horse ot hath class to have downed The Fad this afternoon, lie forced a terrific pace from the outset. Poiuiu also ran in smartly improved form, but after going five furlongs, he allowed Joe Morris to head him for seeond place. The showing of Prince Imperial was disappointing. The mile and a sixteenth handicap, which pre eeded the stake race, proved equally disappointiiu. to favorite and form players. Cymbal betas returned the winner over Old Honesty and Zienap. Jockey A Walsh's handling of Cymbal was in striking contrast to his unsatisfactory effort on the horse in his previous start. Cymbal ran in blinkers today and this change in equipment may have accounted for hit improved showing. The six-furlongs handicap, in which four go ie -printers accepted the issue, enabled Bd Alvey t make a cleanup on the vieti rv of Prince Ahmed, starting for the first time since his return from Call fornia. Sea Swell forced a fast pace the first half. but weakened perieptihly near the end and allowed Charlie Kastman to beat him for second place. Priaci Ahmed winning with plenty to spare. Madman, considered a dangerous contender before the race, ran far below his best form and retired from serious eoateataaa after going a half. Yiftecn ordinary sprinters tried conclusions In th, la*t race and Billy Bodemev. favored by the best of racing luck, proved a bandy winner over EHielda with flie improving Colmo in third place. Arionettc was hacked to the exclusion of everything in flic race, but after leading for a half, she tired and stopped almost to a walk. Jack Bi.ker furnished an apart by handily winning the opening race, in which Keside was the choice. Can w- downed Gerrymander, favorite in the seoon, tace. after a sharp stretch drive ending in a spirited finish. Joseph A. Murphy will depart on Monday fot Hamilton, where lie will serve as steward. In ease of an extension here after July 1( . lie will return and resume his present duties. The McDowell and G. Reif strings will he shipped to New York tomorrow. The silver cup. which in former years was donated by former mayor Fleiseliiuauii t the winner of the Cincinnati Trophy, was this year the gift of the club. Trainer Van Meter was presented with tin idee. «.f plate by The Fad's owners after he had won it today. McDavitt & Weber, tin- reputed own eta of The Fad. are reported to have won handsomely on the colt's victory. John Greener has reconsidered his intention of shipping Olambala to New York before the fanning of the Fort Erie Derby and will keep him hire until In- i- sent to Fort Erie. If the colt run- well in tin Canadian event, lie will be sent to New York to till his engagement in the Lawrence Realization. BROOKLYN DERBY CLOSE FIT SAM HILDRETHS JOE MADDEN BEATS FORMER STABLEMATE BY A HEAD. Fayetto FinaJly Runs Up to Expectation — Waldo Carries 129 Pounds to Victory in Race Horso Fashion in the Tremont Stakes. New York. June If. — Weather and track conditio** were ideal and 10.000 race goers viewed the decision of the splendid half-holiday card at OraVesend today wllh absorbing and sustained interest. Two of the Brooklyn Jockey Club's oldest annual events, the Treuioiit Stakes and the Brooklyn Derby, which had their inaugural running with the first meeting of the club In 1S.H7. wen- the chief attractions. The juvenile race developed unexpectedly into a one -iib-d affair, with Waldo, despile a heavy impost of IfiP pounds, the dominant factor throughout. On the other hand the Derby, which on paper seemed a gift for Joe Madden, barely escaped resulting in -a fluke defeat for S. C. Hildreth'* colt. The singularly running Fayette thrilled the Spectator* by disputing every foot of the long mile and a half journey with the favorite. While the race signally enhanced layettes reputation as a race horse, it was universally conceded that had the race been truly tub. with a normal pace. Joe Madden's margin of victory would have been appreciably greater. County Fair. the only oilier starter, made an abnormally slow-pace for a mile and an eighth. Then the raeV resolved itself into a three-furlongs sprint between the two choices to Hie finish. With an advantage of a length and a half and an earlier beginning Fayette just failed by a head of beating his rated rival. Fayette's Derby distance trial took place at Sheepsbead Bay Thur-day and was done easily in 'Phe introductory sprint was contested bv twentv platers. Hie biggest field of tie meeting. Tim Pippin, a quick breaker and a fast horse, struggled out of the ruck at the start and had Hie race won then and there. I'nlike the old-time custom in such cases. Hardly a day passes that horsemen who believed that racing was dead la-t fall do not appear at Hravesend for the first time and promptly express surprise at the increasing heallhfulness of the turf. They arc naturallv en thnsiastic and are not slow In predicting that raring will folly regain its former prestige and popularity. Appreciating the determined struggle of the Jockey Club to keep the sport alive, it may be said that al! classes of horsemen are now ready to lend their assistance. But to those who have remained on the L-round ever sjn,.,. ihe sp it received a body blow at Albaay a year ago belongs the real credit. If they had failed to remain loyal to the cause it is believed thai the Jockey Club's task would have bee* all the more dittieull. Obligations To Horsemen Discharged. C.July 10 WE Win Again I came right back with THURSDAY'S Guaranteed Special BIGOT 6 0-1 WON I called your attention in Sunday's and Tuesday's advertisement to the long-price special which would be started by the same connections as the othar horses, and would win at a big price on Thursday. June 18. I MADE GOOD. I kept my promise and came hack with a 60 to 1 shot, which won for my clients all over the country A FORTUNE. It cannot be estimated how large a sum of money was taken out of the eastern and western poolrooms by the Day clients. This success was followed up by all the Day clients on Tuesday, June 8, by my famous two-horse guaranteed parlay, which won easily, on Tuesday, June 8th, at 65-1 WON This parlay consisted of two horses, one at Graves-end and the other at Canada, as follows: OUR HANNAH . 10-1 WON fULfORD ... 5-1 WON This was followed up on Wednesday. June 9, by my Wednesday's Special, which also won: DRESS PARADE II. 20-1 WON My long-prioe specials have created the sensation of the racing season and have proved to even the skeptic that to win on a long-price horse you must become a DAY CLIENT. A $20 flat bet on my four specials won $1,900. Remember, there were no losing days, and this money was won on the original $20. I have one more sensation to spring, the greatest which has ever been attempted on the American turf. Will bo manipulated by the same people as the other winning horses and will start Thursday, June 24th, opening day at Sheepshead Bay. This will be a horse you have not heard very much about, but will be just as good as Bigot. I cannot say any more, can only refer you to my record. I am in the know and cannot say too much. The price of this horse will be on Thursday about 30-1 or in that neighborhood, and the result will never be in doubt after thev break from the barrier. Sav nothing more but follow me on Thursday. Terms: Five Dollars for Thursday's horse. Remit by express order, special delivery mail, registered mail, express letter or telegraph. SPECIAL NOTICE. Owing to the enormous demand for last Thursday's Special clients who did not receive their wire owing to the rush of business can have their money returned upon request, or will be included for next Thursday's Special. NOTE. Horses used in this or anv other advertisement in this paper are filed with the Racing Form two hours before the races. This paper docs not print any horse filed after the races.
