Frivolity to Cherryola: Western Filly Staunchly Supported at Odds-on at Yonkers Track FRIVOLITY TO CHERRYOLA WESTERN FILLY STAUNCHLY SUPPORTED AT ODDS-ON AT YONKERS TRACK. II. G. Bedwell Takes Two More Purses with Madman and Belleview Ostend Scores in Race for Maidens in Impressive Fashion. New York, July 2S. The card decided at Yonkers today was weak numerically, besides being deficient in class, notwithstanding its valuable stake feature. This last-named attraction was the Frivolity and bad three contestants Cherryola. Kadiuin Star and Interpose, the last-named two owned by the iMontpe-lier Stable and running coupled in betting. Despite the paucity of starters, betting- on the outcome was sensational. The western contingent backed the representative of their section at odds-on. as if it was all over but the cashing, while local support was lavished on the Wilson pair. Unusual precaution was observed with Cherryola before the race, the Tanznieisler lilly being led to the liost fully ten minutes before the start. To pre vent a repetition of the runaway breaks in which Ehe figured in lier preceding start, Cherryola was held at the post by an assistant starter. The actual break found her fully prepared, and from the tirst stride to the last she dominated the running. .After Interpose had fulfilled his mission of forcing the favorite at top speed in the earlv running, he turned wide enough to allow his stable companion to come through on the inside for menacing but unavailing challenge of the leader. H. G. Bedwell's western stable captured its nearly habitual double with Madman and Belleview. Doth horses scored decisively. Cheek inaugurated proceedings with a runaway victory from live others, including County Fair, which for the first seven furlongs was folded with exasperating frequency. An Ogden Lucy Lee two-year-old. named ostend, attracted much attention by an easy win in fast time in the juvenile affair for maidens at five ami a half furlongs. Tlie liftli race was won by Earl's Court. Only a short head separated him from Queen Marguerite, on which jockey Powers sat perfectly still. Powers' finish on the favorite was regarded as lamentably weak and quite unworthy of the best jockey in the country. The owners of Queen Marguerite were outspoken in their denunciation of the noted rider and declared that they would make formal complaint to tlie stewards. Earl's Court, despite a poor performance yesterday, was backed down today from 4 to 1 at the opening to 18 to 5 at post time. Jockey Scoville, alert and skillful, heat the harrier. Belleview scored a surprising and unexpected success in tlie last race. The odds against the Bed-well horse receded so persistently that few had the temerity to back him. .His winning at 3 1-2 to 1 left Hie layers with virtually clean sheets. Although the card offered today was not up to those which have been run off at this meeting in quality, the attendance showed no perceptible falling More Shipments to Saratoga MORE SHIPMENTS TO SARATOGA. Now York, July 28. Recent shipments to Saratoga include Matthew Feakes with the stable of Mrs. Lillian A. Livingston, including Lovetie, Kingship and Bang, the last named one of the most promising two-year-old maidens in the east; Harry Rites with Tim Pippin and four others; W. O. Scully with six; Simon Henley with Medallion and a couple of two-year-olds belonging to Captain E. B. Cassatt; A. G. Blakeley with the horses that he raced at lEmpire City; Steve Lawler with tlie horses of Messrs. Carroll and Cattrey. The horses of trainers John Miller and Thomas E. Mnnnix will leave for Saratoga Sunday morning. In the Miller lot is the well-known racer. Far West. Koine time ago it was intended to school Far West for cross-country racing, but he is training so promisingly that he will be raced on the Hat. Mr. M. L. Schwartz has nominated Far West for the Delaware. Merchants' and Citizens' and Chainplain Handicaps at tin.- Springs, and the horse will be pointed for the first-named event. John Powers will ship Jack Atkin. Burgher and several two-year-olds to Saratoga at the end of the Empire City meeting. Reservations have been made at the Windsor track for the stable of II. G. Red well, hut as Mr. Bedwell lias met with success on his eastern venture lie will probably campaign his stable at Saratoga. Aim in Opening Saratoga Field AIM IN OPENING SARATOGA FIELD, New York, July 2S. :Tlie announcement that betting will not be permitted in tlie field enclosure at Saratoga has removed the last vestige of objection to tlie opening of that part of the grounds to which the public is admitted for a nominal fee. Saratoga lias a big population of lovers of racing and tilt; surrounding towns have always been intensely interested in the thoroughbred. This love? of the siKrt is not confined to those who can well afford the expense of a day in the grandstand and the paddock and in previous years the field enclosure has always attracted a goodly crowd. It has never been a betting crowd and the association intends to bring the sport within the reach of this class of patrons. During the month of August the race track at Saraioga is the one lasting and ever popular entertainment, and to bring it within the reach of all is the desire of the Saratoga Association. An excellent view of the races is had from the field enclosure jaud there, more than at any other course, the field attendance is one that turns out for the lacing itself. They shout just as lustily for this or that horse as those on the other side of the fence and extract just as keen an enjoyment out of the contests as any on the grounds. Tennessee's Legislative Movement TENNESSEE'S LEGISLATIVE MOVEMENT. Memphis. Tenn.. July 28. The movement for a rpecial session of tlie Tennessee legislature to consider the modification of certain represslonary legislation enacted in the past few years arises from the feneral disappointment over the result of attempts to enforce the statewide prohibition law, coupled with the Impression that as much If not more racetrack betting is going on now through the medium of poolrooms and handbooks. Members of the reform set in (Memphis are said to have come around to the view that a new law to regulate the alleged evils will be lietlor than the present ones calling for absolute suppression. Governor Patterson was and remains a lifelong niemlier of the New Memphis Jockey Club. Although he signed the bill that put the Memphis and other Tennessee clubs out of business. lie was openly against the move, always maintaining that Tennessee should be one of the last states to frown on racing. West Virginia Poolroom Closed WEST VIRGINIA POOLROOM CLOSED. Charleston, W. Va.. July 28. Word has been received at the executive otlices at the capitol that a fight to banish poolrooms from the state had .ended with the departure of the Pittsburg men who have been conducting one at Virginia Station, in Booke county. The iioolrooiii has been in operation since a recent decision of the Supreme Court of Appeals, which dissolved an injunction issued against i(s proprietors. Governor Glasscock has since been trying to oust the poolroom men. Good Returns from New York Racing: Not Up to Former Years, but of Paying Volum and Worth Striving For GOOD RETURNS FROM NEW YORK RACING. Not Up to Former Yelars, hut of Paying Volume and Worth Striving For. That the New York tracks are not yielding the great returns to winning owners of a few years back, is a matter to be expected, but they are doing very well in that respect, with a cheerful prospect of still better things to come. S. C. nildreth and James R. Keene have fared best so far and will probably continue to do so to the end of the year, but other owners who possess good race horses have nothing to complain of. John E. Madden has no Sir Martin this year, or at any rate if he lias a two-year-old nearly as good, has not introduced it to public notice, but his stable winnings are respectable and so are those of C. L. Harrison. Of those owners who have not attained double lignres, none seemed more certain to accomplish it at Saratoga than W. Clay and if his good lilly. Ocean Bound, has really gone wrong, it is a great misfortune to him. The rich Spinaway Stakes seemed a certainty for her and no two-year-old had a greater chance of winning the still more valuable Hopeful Stakes. II. P. Whitney does not occupy his usual prominent position, but that is easily accounted for by his Slaving sent the best of Ins horses of all ages to England. Hitchcock has purchased the three-year-old bay tilly. Yankee Daughter, by Mazagan Saliie ot Navarre, from Timothy D. Sullivan. Yankee Daughter is to go to the stud, probably next fall, and next spring she will be mated with Yankee. Yankee, a $20,000 son of Hanover and Correction and a Futurity winner, is at John E. Maddon's Hamburg Place stud, but Mr. Hitchcock and his brother, Thomas Hitchcock. Jr., each owns a third interest in him. Yankee probably has not had a fair chance at Hamburg Place because Mr. Madden has been inclined to favor Ills English horse, Ogden, the sire of Sir Martin. But a few years ago be got the Lawrence Realization winner, Dinna Ken. and more recently he became the sire of Joe Madden, winner of the Los Angeles and Brooklyn Derbys and the Belmont Stakes. Joe Madden is the biggest three-year-old money winner of the current season and Yankee is well up among the winning stallions. Yankee lias a way of getting horses that will stay, which is natural. Hanover, his sire, was a great route traveler, and lie got a bunch of stayers. Speed was the forte of Correction, a sister to Domino, but the daughter of Hiiuyar and Mamie (irav was stoutly bred. Mr. Hitchcock will not. he thinks, attempt to race Yankee Daughter again, because the filly Is unsound. She was so sore she could hardly hobble' along' after her hist race at Yonkers, and she has long had a habit of pulling up lame. But she is a filly of fine size and conformation and Mr. Hitchcock believes that she will he successful In the stud. A daughter o .Mazagan and Saliie of Navarre, Yankee Daughter is a half-sister to Salvidere. the best two-year-old of 19043 and the winner of more than $90,000. She had a half-brother, called Sir Navarre, for which Charles Ellison paid $10,000 as a yearling. Sir Navarre did not amount to a great deal, but Saliie of Navarre sold for $10,000 when the Brown stud was broken up. Harry Payne Whitney has a Broomstick Saliie of Navarre two-year-old in England of which he. thinks a lot Saliie of Navarre was a daughter of Henry of Navarre and Saliie McClelland. She comes from the family to which the American turf is indebted for such horses as Sir Dixon, Belvidere, Uncle, Colonel Bill and Salvidere. Cunard Coming East at Once CUNARD COMING EAST AT ONCE. New York, July 2S. George W. Langdon will go to California this week to arrange for tlie shipment to E. R. Bradley's Idle Hour Stud iu Kentucky of Cunard, St. Avonicus and the broodmares, yearlings and sucklings belonging to the estate of the late Caesar Young, whose widow he married last spring. Mrs. Langdon recently sold a half-interest in the stud left by her first husband to Mr. Bradley, who is coming to the front as a breeder. Mr. Bradley has a fine band of mares at Idle Hour Farm in Kentucky, which he has mated witli good stallions. lie has some yearlings this season bv Adam and Rock Sand that cost him $1,000 and $1,500. Ho believes that Cunard will fit in nicely with his mares. Cunard made a good record in California as a sire despite limited opportunities. He is a son of Goldfinch and Lucania. was bred at Rancbo del Paso and was raced bv Green B. Morris in 1901 and 1902. He won tlie National Stallion Stakes of 1901 at Morris Park and made a line showing as a three-year-old. Goldfinch, his sire, was one of the best bred Ormonde horses that ever came to this country and Lucania was a daughter of the New Zealand stallion. Sir Modred, out of School-Girl, by Pat Malloy. School-Girl's dam was Gleniuine, by Glenelg. Dur ing the brief time that he has lieen standing in California Cunard has got nothing but winners. Juggler and Neo-skaleeta have been in active training since the latter part of March, and Coles has decided to let up on them for a spell. Judging by Bobbie Kean's recent race, in which lie led from start to finish and defeated Sir Cleges. Bad News and others, he is as good as at any time In his career. Celt is in Bad Condition: Ocean Bound May Race at Saratoga after All Gossip from the Spa CELT IS IN BAD CONDITION. Ocean Bound May Race at Saratoga After All Gossip from the Spa. Saratoga, N. Y., July 28. Celt is undoubtedly in bad condition. lie has been out on tlie track every day since his arrival here, but his exercises have been limited to trotting and cantering. There is an ominous thickening of his right foreleg about and above the pastern joint, and to a casual observer his racing days appear to be over. Asked tills evening if there was any truth in the rumor that the horse would be retired, James Rowe said: "That is something 1 am unable to answer. It will depend on circumstances, but .Mr. Keene will have to decide. I am not doing anything with him. He gets light exercise, but that is all." t)cean Bound worked a half today in 51. She moved with a choppy gait, but pulled up without showing signs of lameness and walked away firmly. It is quite certain that if she stands another and stronger work before next Tuesday, she will be a starter in the Spinaway Stakes. Woodford Clay hopes to send her to the post for that event and also for the Special. John Sanford has candidates for the Spinaway and Special which are expected to be strong contenders in those events. They have shown enough to convince the trainers that they are speedy. Their real quality is as yet a stable secret. Charles Hughes predicts that western horses will beat the representatives of eastern stables here just as they have been doing at Yonkers. lie brought three two-year-olds, one of which is conceded to he extremely speedy. The' outlook for the meeting here is very promising. The track was never in better order, while the grounds and surroundings look more beautiful than ever before. James Rowe says: "It Is the grandest race course in the world." The Canfield clubhouse will not lie opened this summer. Proprietors of other clubs are putting their establishments in order. Leading Horses in New York Racing: Joe Madden Far in Advance of Competitiors, but through Good Fortune Only LEADING HORSES IN NEW YORK RACING. Joo Madden Far in Advance of Competitors, But Through Good Fortune Only. It is typical of the fortunes of racing that the horse which has won the greatest snm In racing this year over the New York tracks, is not alone not the best race horse in action there, but is not even the best of his own age. That horse is the lucky colt, Joe Madden. He is not to be unjustly depreciated, for lie is an honest-running, game and speedy young horse. But Hilarious unmistakably proved himself Joe Madden's master in several races and when the test came. Fitz Herbert more easily demonstrated his superiority over Hilarious. However, it was Joe Ttladden'er luck to be in the year's richest stake race for three-year-olds, while the other two were not, so. when he added to his previous winnings tlie $24,450 that accrued to the victor in tlie Belmont Stakes, he established a supremacy that may not he shaken for a long time. So far this year six horses have won $10,4XX) or more, of which three. Joe Madden. Fitz Herbert and King James, belong to Sam Hildreth and three. Hilarious, Maskette and Sweep, to Mr. Keene. Next to these monopolists conies the promising two-year old, Waldo. It is because of tlie change brought about by the loss of big values in two-year-old stakes that only four of that age figure in the list of twelve best winners, while three years back It would have been six or more. New York. July 2S. The proposed meeting between Colinet, The Fad, Donau and possibly Fauntle-roy in a sweepstakes at Empire City Saturday grew ont of a controversy between K. R. Bradley and C. C. Van Meter, the former expressing the opinion that Colinet could beat The Fad in spite of the victory of the latter in a race last Saturday. James Blute then spoke up and said lie could heat them both with Donau. Matt Winn, manager of the Empire City Racing Association, hearing of the argument, ottered to put on a sweepstakes for Saturday, with $700 added. Uie two-year-olds to carry scale weight. James McLaughlin thought ho might start Faunt-leroy, as -he was not altogether satisfied with the defeat of his colt on Saturday by The Fad and Colinet. Unfriendly to Outlaw Men UNFRIENDLY TO OUTLAW MEN. Montreal, Que., July 2S. Influential newspapers of this city have adopted an unfriendly attitude toward the outlaw race meeting which is scheduled to open at Delorimier Park in this city next Saturday. It is reiiorted that the position of presiding judge has been tendered to John Roden. formerly racing secretary at various eastern tracks. Other officials include James Milton, starter: W. W. Lyles, paddock and patrol judge, and George C. Dillon, racing secretary and hamlicapper. The Montreal Driving Club, under which name Delorimier Park is operated, deny that A. M. Orpen. who financed tlie Dufferin 1'ark meeting. lias any connection with the Delorimier Park venture. Another Complaints Against E. Dugan ANOTHER COMPLAINT AGAINST E. DUGAN. New York. Jnly 2S. J. L. McGinnis. owner of Shannon, which was defeated in the fifth race at Empire City on Tuesday by Dullcare, with E. Dugan up, has made formal complaint to the stewards of tlie Jockey Club against Dugan, alleging that be not only fouled Shannon with his own mount, but tried to induce McGee, another jockey in the nice, to emulate his example. McGee corroborated the statement ot the McGinnis" jockey that Dugan had called on him to pull over in front of Shannon in order to prevent the latter from getting through on the inside on the far turn. After Taplin to Ride Abroad AFTER TAPLIN TO RIDE ABROAD. New York. July 2S. Algernon Daingerfield was in receipt by cable today of a tempting offer for jockey Taplin to ride for a prominent owner abroad. When submitted to II. G. Bedwell. the latter said that no price within reason would induce him to part with Taplin. A number of stablemen in Bedwell's employ went on strike yesterday morning and a new complement of help, all colored, took their places. Disciplinary Action at Butte DISCIPLINARY ACTION AT BUTTE. Butte, Mont.. July 2S. Jockey Stewart has been Indefinitely suspended by the ollicials of the Butte Jockey Club, ill consequence of a bad ride on Silver Leaf, when that horse recently started at short odds. Jockey Auhuehon has been warned away and jockey Morgan has been given to understand that there must he an improvement lu his saddle showing. Fort Erie Records Fall: Creel and Lady Esther Reduce Hitherto Existing Marks FORT ERIE RECORDS FALL CREEL AND LADY ESTHER REDUCE HITHERTO EXISTING MARKS. Former Sets New Standard for Mile and Sixteenth and Latter for Mile and Three-Sixteenths Turf Star Equals Five-Furlong Mark. h Buffalo, N. Y., Jnly 28. Getaway day at Fort Erie was marked by record-breaking and sensational racing. Two track records were broken during the afternoon and another was eqnaled. Tlie record-breakers were Creel and Lady Esther. The former reduced the record for a mile and a sixteenth from 1:44J to 1:445. Lady Esther lowered the mile and three-sixteenths record from 1:5SJ to l;58i. Turf Star equaled the existing track record for five furlongs when she ran the distance in 1:00 inrwin-ning the juvenile race. (jreel's feat was accomplished in the handicap, la which he was opposed bv Wool Sandals and The Minks. There was plenty of backing for all three contenders, but Creel had a slight call over Wool Sandals for favoritism. Hie latter dominated the running at a speedy pace for the first seven furlongs, with Creel his closest pursuer.. When straightened away in the stretch Creel drew out to win with consummate case. Tlie Minks made a 'determined bid in tlie last three furlongs, but Wool Sandals retained the place. Eye White's defeat in the second race was a stunner to form followers and was accomplished in an unexpected manner. Jockey Kennedy's bungling handling contributed to a considerable degree. The colt was almost thrown soori after the start, when Hickory Stick, ridden by Crowley, crossed In front of him. Tlie mishap forced him back to last place. Kennedy rushed him into forward contention in the first quarter, and when about to pass Into the lead at the stretch turn steered him for. an impossible opening and he was again forced back. The last mishap eliminated him as an important factor, and Turf Star and Penn were left to ' fight It out, the former winning in the last stride. Penn stumbled just before the finish was reached, which cost him the race. Eye White landed in third place. With a clear course lie unquestionably would have won off.' Bad riding accounted for First Preiniunifs defeat and enabled John W. Schorr to take his first, purse of the meeting through the victory of Gretna Green. First Premium was allowed to trail far behind Gretna Green's and Green Seal's pace In the early running. At the stretch turn he was-rapidly weariuj; them down, but Davenjiort. instead of remaining close to the inner rail, elected to go wide and this lost the race. Gretna Green won by a short head, with First Premium second and Green Seal third. Edgely scored at the end of a sensational stretch drive with St. .Teanue, which had been the leader from barrier rise. P. M. Civill, after having previously" won with Creel and Topsy Robinson, took the closing race with Lady Esther. She was put to a hard drive in the stretch, but stood It gamely and drewsaway at the end from Zipango, her most persistent opponent; Reidmoore finished third. Supplementary to the ruling of July 19, jockey ICeefer lias been warned off the course. The judges have reported the case of jockey B. Burton to the Cnnadian Racing Associations with the recommendation that his license be revoked. Burton has admitted the use of a battery in races elsewhere and was ordered away from New Orleans the last year of racing there on a charge of using such a device on the horse First Mason. The Canadian Racing Associations were not in possession of this information when Burton's application for a license came up. The judges will also recommend to the Canadian Racing Associations that the license of jockey Crowley lie revoked for his interference with Eye White shortly after the start in the second race. Another notice that the judges handed down was that they had reported to the Canadian Racing Associations that the testimony of the patrol Judge and of the trainer and rider of Waterway is unanimously to the effect that the horse was In no way impeded or interfered with in the steeplechase of July 21 and that he was beaten absolutely on his merits. It had lieen charged that Tlie Poet was responsible for Waterway's defeat by impeding him at the last two obstacles and' that Bonnie Kate repeatedly blocked him in the short stretch drive. As an aftermath of the race there has lieen a change In the management .of Waterway. Agents from Delorimier Park were active today soliciting horsemen to ship to Montreal, but met with little encouragement. Empire City Results Satisfactory EMPIRE CITY RESULTS SATISFACTORY. New Y'ork. July 2S. When the rain was falling in sheets last Fridav. James Butler looked over tlie crowd at Empire City, and seemed agreeably., sur prised. "This convinces me that racing will "live." said ho. "for such patronage under these adverse circumstances shows that tlie public wants the sport." The policy of . President Butler" in racing without open dates has borne fruit. The daily attendance has enabled ie Empire City Racing Association to pay heavy expenses, and has convinced, the other track owners that they can operate for the r-st of the season on similar lines. When .Mr. Butler and his manager. Matt Winn, declared that they would race every one of the sixteen days allotted to them by the Jockey Club last winter, if it cost every cent in the treasury, they expected to lose money. But the attendance has been so good they have more than earned expenses and instead of a loss they will finish the meeting with a profit.. Why Redfern is Seeking a License WHY REDFERN IS SEEKING A LICENSE. New York, July 28. Arthur Redfern, whose application for a license to ride was recently tabled by the Jockey Club, has not been in Uie saddle for several years on account of inability to make the American weights. He announced recently that lie intended to resume riding in England, and it was on that account that be sought a renewal of his license in this country. After his retirement from the saddle he was connected with C. E. Durnell. who is in disfavor, with the eastern turf governors. His Durnell affiliations may be responsible for the holding up of the license. Racing Decision at Victoria RACING DECISION AT VICTORIA". Victoria. B. C, Jnly 2S. Some would-be reformers who sought to bring about the annulment of the lease of the Fair Grounds track to the Victoria Country Club for its summer meeting, now In progress, because betting was permitted on the races. Instigated a movement which resulted in the City Council asking the city barrister for a legal opinion on various phases of the matter at issue. The city barrister reported back to the council that the lease could not be annulled on the grounds in question, and that betting on horse races is perfectly legal in British Columbia so long as it is confined to the race track enclosure. JohnCarroll, Henry O Page 4 Racing at the Mexican Capital: Organization Formed to Conduct Meetings Twice Each Month -R. L. Pata on Scene RACING AT THE MEXICAN CAPITAL. Organization Formed to Conduct Meetings Twice Each Month R. L. Pate on Scene. Mexico City, July 2S. After being apparently lifeless for some months past, racing in this city has taken on a boom, and there is every indication that public interest in the turf will be sustained until the Mexico Jockey Club takes up racing in 1010. when the $25,000 Mexican Derby is scheduled to be run. In February a live-day meeting was held in Aguas Callentes on a new track with modern accessories, but that city was too small to make the meeting a success, and the distance too' far from this city to induce more than a handful of the enthusiasts to make the journey. In June, however, the Americans ot the capital city got together and decided to hold a day of racing on the Fourth of July, at the Pcralville track, and the plan resulted in one of the greatest sporting and social events ever pulled off in Mexico. President Diaz and Mrs. Diaz. Vice-President Corral and many other dignitaries attended, and the card ot six races was run off in a manner which opened the eyes of those accustomed to the slip-shod methods which have characterized tile racing days given here in the past. The judges represented the class of the city, they being Colonel K. Kly-Goddard, a prominent American resident; Jose de Romero Dusmet, Spanish minister to Mexico, and Lieutenant-Colonel Luis Perez Figueroa, secretary of war and navy. The local turf enthusiasts had never hoard of such things as paddock judges, patrol judges, official timers and the like, and President Diaz. Governor Landa y Kscandon and other lovers of racing expressed their pleasure at the businesslike manner in which things were conducted. The purses aggregated $.'S,r7S, of which most was by subscription. The feature was the American Stakes for two-year-olds, at four and one-half furlongs. Willi a value of $1,250, all of which was raised by small donations by the local American colony. The Bankers' Stakes for two-year-olds, at four furlongs, was the other big event. This stake was worth $1,210, and was, subscribed by the banking houses of the city. The third two-year-old event was the Starters' Stakes, for non-winning colts and lillies, and was worth $5011. The following Sunday the annual races of the French colony were held. and. although they did not compare in turf or social brilliance with the Fourth of July races, nevertheless a big crowd attended and betting was brisk. With the enthusiasm aroused by the holding of two Sundays of good racing in a row, an association of enthusiasts was formed to give two Sundays of racing each month, the organization being known as the International Racing Club. Two-year-old races will be the feature, as there are fifty or more youngsters in the republic, most of which are eligible for the Derby. The aged division is neglected because the same platers have been racing here for a number of years, while in the two-year-old division there is considerable, class. There are but three jockeys of any account here, and they have things their own way Tod Walsh, Willie Shea and Dick Osmers. Harry Kelly is here and will open a public training stable. It is rumored that R. L. Pate, who conducted a race meeting unsuccessfully here a number of years ago. is figuring on some sort of a race track concession. He has been in the city for several weeks.
