New York I believe our chan ces for carrying Ohio are better than the Republicans I regard Illinois as an exceedingly doubtful State Tele grams from the chairman of the State Democratic Committee of California say we are going to carry California Advtces from that State awhile ago were somewhat doubtful as to the re salt Mayor Phelan of San Erancisco ys there is no doubt about the State One of the causes of this change of sen ment in California is the decision of Judge Estes on the Chinese exclusion act in which he held that a Chinaman at any port in the United States could goat any other true that some Democrats in this StatQ will vote for Mr Yerkes against Mr Beck ham Why it is that in a fight like this that Democrats can not of get over their soreness of one year ago we are unable to discover un less it is that they aro yeti mad because some hotheaded Demo crats cannot bear with them and charge them with holding to Republican sentiment We believe firmly believe that is the main reason because the Democratic party the Democratic nominee has done every act that these dis satisfied Democrats have demand ed The Democrats who supportI od Brown last year demanded tha t voters should elect the county comI mittees that the Goebel election law should bo repealed and that the candidate should receive his nomination fairly All these de fnnnds have been honestly ana fairly yet we do not hear a single one of them denounce the partisan acts of the other side Judge Evans a federal judge i n the city of Louisville is commit 1ting the most partisan acts ever known in the Democrats alone are indicted Democrats alone are prosecuted and convicted for the violation of the federal law that gives special guarantee to negro voters Under this law Evans is imposing heavy flues speaking at Campbellsville last Saturday had been thoroughly adver tised and early in the forenoon the people from all sections began to ar rive in town and by 12 oclock fully two thousand unterrified Democrats were upon the streets The two prin cipal streets were paraded in the forenoon five hundred men being upon horseback in the procession besides several scores of buggies It was a thrilling sight testifying that theI Democrats of Taylorcounty were thoroughly aroused and would do their duo ty on the Sixth of November Sixteen young ladies dressed in white and ridding gray horses headed the procession followed by one young lady dressed in yellow and riding a yel low horse It was a beautiful picture the young ladies being admired by both political friend and foe for their handsome appearance The Taylor county young ladies are noted for their attractive ness but to fully appreciate how hand some they really are you mdst see them dressed in white the emblem of innocese ridlng gray horses and heading a Democratic procession The speaking was at the courthouse a stand having been erected upon the outside the building being too small to hold the crowd Local talent introduced the speak ers and in the forenoon Hon C C HcChord and Congressman Dave Smith made telling and forcible speeches In the afternoon Hon Ash G Caruth of Louisville occupied the stand for two and onehalf hours making the speech of the day He is a sound reasoner and presents his points in such a manner as to impress his hearers with the truthfulness of his assertions At the close of Mr Carruths speech Hon W P Thorne of Henry county made one of his characteristic talks to the delight of all present If there was a disturbance during the day it did not come under our observa tion For the size of the crowd it was remarkably orderly a compliment to Campbellsville and Taylor county Last year the Republicans carried Tay lor county by about 70 majority butif there is any thing in demonstration her
