To sum it all up, from tho present indications, it is safo to predict that Harrison will bo nominated by acclamation amid wild cheers before tho first call of the States is half completed. From an unbiased Democratic standpoint, regardless of personal preferences, wo nro forced, to admit that tho "signs of tho times" point toward Grover Cleveland, tho people's choice, as tho man who will bear tho Democratic standard it is hoped to victory. What wa3 at first considered great booms in favor of other parties, have dwindled into tho smallest of boomlets, and men that at ono time seemed to bo dashing favorites, aro now almost distanced in tho race. Away back in ancient times, as it were, Senator Hill, ono of tho greatest and most dashing political generals, bounded to tho front and sot(mo pace at a lively gait; but ere tho goul was half reached, ho showed evidences of quitting, and as thoy now enter tho homo stretch, it seems that Cloveland is winning in a walk. It is truo that there aro other good men whoso names will bo boforo tho Convention, but it is hardly possiblo that any of them can win tho nomination. Whon spoaking of Mr. Carlisle, Mr. Watterson voices tho sentiments and thrills tho soul of almost every regardless of politics, and Kentucky will stand sldo by sido with Wattcrson as long as there is tho faintest liopo of Carlisle's euccess. But tho question is, can wo nominate him ? It is tho opinion of tho News that wo can no more chango tho Cloveland tido Carlisle-warthan wo can turn tho .current of tho Ohio towards Pittsburg ; and wo had 'just as woll mako up our minds to accept tho inovitablo nnd mako tho best of it. It is claimed by Mr. Cleveland's frionds that not only will tho breech in Now York bo cloocd up, but that by thojimo tho Convention assembles Tammany will go to Chicago 1000 strong for Cleveland ; that Senator Hill will placo Cleveland's naiuo before the Convention ; that ho will bo nominated by acclamation amid tho greatest shout of jov that ovor aroso from an oppressed people; and that ho will curry New York by 50,000 majority.
