companionship the immortal part of Mrs MaryTSlkin was separated from the mortal and part on Saturday 7 at nine oclock A 31 She died as she lived quietly and peacefully A splendid funeral sermon was preached at the Christian church on Sunday by Elder C E Powell to one of the largest crowds that ever assem bled in this city on such an occasion At the Cemetery the floral offering was profuse and was fittingly of the purity of the spirit which had flown from the tabernacle of clay to the house where there are many Mansions prepared for the pure in heart Her husband Mr Zachariah Elkin a man of God devoted to the a cause of his Master died twentyone years ago She was in her 73rd year and had spent her life in trying to make the world better and those about her happy Although she the Christian virtues in a high degree sacrifice the leading virtue was most perfectly developed for she was never so happy as when trying to make others happy Kind pure gentle had no harsh words to express con cerning others but always had a word of cheer for the despondent and an ex cuse for the wayward In the sanctu of God around the fireside in the social circle and as a leading member of the Ladies Aid Society a powerful church auxiliary her work will live after her and give her a large credit on the ledger of Heaven These state are not overdrawn but they are admitted by all who knew the deceas ed to be literally true Her expres sion of reproof would always cause the tattler to pause and learn to speak well of others Such souls gravitate to God as matter follows a line to ward the center of the earth Though she is now in the company of angels and it would be sinful to wish for her return to this vale of tears it is true that such noble women have done more to make the world better than all the pulpit orators and printing presses in existence These expressions of praise were not reserved until her death as the cus tom has it but they were frequently spoken of her during herlife and the writer can truthfully say that he nee er heard an unkind word spoken of her She was related to some of the larg est and most influential families of the county and they are a Godloving a Godfearing and a Godserving peo pie Her influence on the character of those with whom she was intimate ly associated is most beautifully shown in the life of her three sons Robert and Garret of this county and Dr W S Elkin of Atlanta Ga The death of little Francis Lee daughter of Mr and Mrs Charles F Dcnman cast a gloom over the wide circle of friends of the childs in this city and county Mrs Denman is the daughter of Mr and Mrs Alex West of Lancaster and she frequently visited here bringing the sweet baby with her Francis Lee was a beaut ful child and the pet of not only the immediate family but all their friends and acquaintances In her innocence and purity she has been called to the better land and the heartbroken can find sweet consolation in the words of the Savior who said Suf far little children to come into me and forbid them not for of such is the kingdom of heaven The Nicholasville Journal says Sunday morning Oct 1 1899 at 2 oclock the death angel called and snatched from the loving arms that enfolded it Francis Lee the infant daughter and only child of Mr and Mrs Chas F Denman aged fifteen months The little darling had been ailing sometime and an abscess in the head brought on convul sions and its attendant evils All the loving care and skilled physicians could not preserve the cherished bud of promise and it has been to the Masters garden there to unfold in Heavenly beauty funeral services were conducted by Eld Robt G Frank and Rev T W Watts at the family residence Monday afternoon at 2 oclock the interment at Maple Grove cemetery To the memory of my little nephew Fitzhugh Jones Sixteen months ago there came to us a sweet baby boy with his bright smiles and soulful eyestellingus of and of Heaven Why must they come to linger a few months and leave us so soon choked with the tears of our loss This we cannot answer yet do we not feel these little temporary wanderers from a celestial home come and go because of the great love of God To my brother and sister I will say it must be joy to be the parents of such a child with the stamp of Heav en on its brow and to one and all who loved it has it not been a blessing to hold it in your arms and care for it to gaze fondly down into the little turned face and rejoice in the beauty of its smiles and then to give It back to God at His call with the thought that it is our little Fitzhugh in heaven as upon earth as this will sanctify and chasten our giving us a upon the unseen To have our hearts filled with this holy affection is worth the sorrow we bear sweet life thy fragrance rare Still in the
