ADYANCB 1 THURSDAY January IS 1900 THE contest for the governorship came up at Frankfort this week and is now going on at a slow pace There no telling what the outcome will of the cost of the ExGov Bradley said This will involve a vast amount of labor and will be very expensive to the State A county contest is a big thing a contest is an enormous thing but a State contest is a tremendious thing We have been allotted five days in which to examine witnesses We can not do it in that time and it is decided to chop off and make a decision without hearing testimony we will be at it for days mid days As to the expense there is hardly a of estimating it accurately at this time There is the cost of issuing the subpoenas and the summoning of witnesses the mileage of witnesses to and from Frankfort and an allowance of 1 per day each for the witnesses while in Frankfort All of this will foot up into the thousands It is a lamentable state of affairs indeed TilE papers of the big Eastern cities have grown tired of publishing stories about the revolution and bloodshed threatened by the Kentucky for several past and several of them have called down their correspondents lately with fierce not to send any more such until the bloodletting actually begins Thesecorrespondents are more to blame for Kentuckys reputation abroad than any other cause A law should be passed to suppress the of such lies to papers The are in a measure to blame though it is hard to tell when telegrams are authentic especially so when they are in jujrj o publish matter that will probably scoop their rivals THIS week at Frankfort is busy and and exciting The contest tees are hearing witnesses the Court of Appeals will render a decision on the injunction case of the election Commissioners and several legislative contests will be decided The contest committees for Governor and Lieuten ant Governor commenced hearing Monday and the democrats are giving evidence first From to Wednesday of the week the republicans will be heard The democrats will be given a day reputthl and several days will be de voted to arguments It is surely a hot time in the old town Lay on Mac Duff and damned be theerwhole gang FKANKFOKT dispatches say a of tough characters have been arrested and big pistols found upon them Now why arrest the tough parties and allow the highcockalo rums go about lugging miniture calf nons It is a safe estimate to say that ninetyfive per cent of those now at the capital are weighted down with pistols bowie knives etc This makes a bad impression for the state but there will be no trouble there One man armed with a seasoned hickory stick could stampede the whole gang A LITTLE fireeating exchange says it dosent see how a newspaper can be nonpartisan in these exciting times Nor can we see how some on both sides of the fence can sanction some of the work done and being done in the state by bosses A great many men have openly their disapproval of it and many more would were they not afraid of of the party lash REPORT says a Louisville insurance agent recently insured a Frankfort man and the New York office sent him word to cancel the policy until the trouble at Frankfort was over The company is sadly off Such risks are the best they could possibly take as politicians seldom die and instead of getting their own hide perforated with bullet holes always manage to get some friend shot THERE is a movement at Frankfort to remove the capital to Lexington This would be a good idea In the first place Lexington is one of the best little cities not only in the state but the United States and secondly public matters would improve if brought out of placed where the fresh air would strike them A fellow named Brown of Dublin Ind walked 12875 miles or over
