naird Gill died at her home on Stan ford street Tuesday afternoon at 230 oclock For several weeks she had suffered intense pain but death came peacefully and she passed away sing ine praises to the Savior whom she had served so faithfully and in whom her trust had always been founded Mrs Gill was a daughter of Squire and Mrs William IT Kinnaird and was born and resided in Lancaster all her life She was the widow of John S Gill one of the most prominent and wealthy men in this section She is survived by three daughters Misses Mary Helen and Martha and one son Louis Mrs Gill did we can say any hesitation more for charity and the cause of temperance and church work than any one who resided in Lancaster She turned away any appeal for help furthermore never told anyone of acts of kindness She was an active worker in all undertakings for the bet torment of the community and her loss will be keenly felt A wide circle of friends mingle their tears with the bereaved ones and sorrow that they shall see her face no more Hers was a happy hopeful life which always brought cheer to the despondent and comfort to the gladsome while scat tering seeds of kindness all along the way It was not a vain pleasure seeking life but an earnest energetic Christian life bearing her own burdens cheerfully and helping others to do the same To the community she was much to the church far more and to her family everything She was an enthusiastic member of the W CT U but always worked for its advancement in a dignified way that accomplished no end of good and won the admiration of even those who favor the sale of intoxicants Funeral services will be conducted at the resi dence this afternoon at three oclock by Rev C M Chumbley assisted by Dr Donald McDonald after which the remains will tie laid to rest in the Lancaster Cemetery The deepest sympaty of the entire community goes out for the bereaved children and relatives The loss is truly an irreparable one to them but they should remember that God moves in a mysterious way his to perform and the fact that she has gone to a better world where there is no sorrow or pain should be an incentive to them to follow in her footsteps while here on earth and thus receive the crown that is laid up in heaven for such pure Godloving God fearing followers of Christ as was she Llnie For Just received a car Joadj of bulk anj barrel lime H Northcott i for railroad commissioner in this district will reproduce the following from his pen which explains the way he has been treated We thank our esteemed contempo raries for joining us in our fight for justice before the railroad com mittee which seen fit to take snap ac tion in the of one candidate whose duties are not so onerous that he can spend most of his time the coming month in electioneering and fixing up his fences He can do so too while drawing a salary from the state whereas the writer is exceedingly closely confined at present and likely to be for some time His candidacy was upon the assumption that he would have plenty of time before the election now eighteen months off to visit the thirty odd counties of the district If the snap action of the committee is permitted to stand he will not be able to do so and if the committe persists in its determina tion to consult only the wishes of one candidate he intends to raise such a howl that will make the big four that they had not considered the interest of the party while fixing up things for a favorite The only ex cuse that we have seen given for the premature action is that Mr McChord wanted to get the matter off his hands before the state races next year This may be a good and sum cient reason so far as Mr McChord is concerned but it is a very poor one for the committee to act on and one which will not bear the scrutiny of the Democratic voters who believe in fair play and that next spring is soon enough for the nomination of a rail road commissioner to be voted for in November 1903 Except to other candidates why should Mr Mc Chord want to get the matter off his hands before the state races next year What has he or his office to do with the state races any way And why should a quorumless or any other committee listen to such an excuse for snap action These and other questions will have to answered and explained or we shall make it warm this summer for the commit tee and its candidate As a lifelong Democrat who has never scratched a ticket nor bolted a nomination and who fancies that he has done a small work at least for the party the wri ter thinks he is entitled to better and he intends to have it or put somebody in the sweat box A word to the wise Is sufficient Common School Examinations Examinations for graduates In the common school course will be held at the of office Co
