for his having died in it In an age of strife and aggressive advancement the man of ed purpose and steadfast idea is one to be emulated Dr Grant was such a man The orbit of his desires lay about his home and family Their welfare and their happiness were his His contact with the world was as a to this end Ambition in the grasping sense of this generation was far from his aims Duty to God to man and to the loved ones of his own He was modest of mien and of a kindly nature Reared in the strict tenets of the Presbyterian faith he was a model of reverence and correct living even when he came to the City on the hillside a young flan seeking to establish a good name and a living among strangers Through out the long stretch of intervening years his footsteps neither wavered nor faltered Though unobtrusive he was distinctly companionable He was trusted and loved and jf in all the world he had an enemy or a cen sor the writer Is unaware of the fact To his wife he was all that duty and affection could demand His devotion to his children was conspicuous Not alone their love was necessary to him but their constant The personal care to the man was lost in the watchful ministering of the fa ther That they should rise up and call him blessed is the least heritage his ransomed spirit could ask from a lifes labor of love One by one the heads are laid low the ripened sheaves are gathered in Precious in the sight of the Lord is the coming home of the faithful At peace with all men and admitted to the glories of the unseen world this man of noble example has gone to his reward Because he Is not for sale I expect to keep him and breed and handle his produce and it is very natural that I will work for the sale of all his colts at high prices no matter to whom they belong 2nd Because his colts have a reputation and have sold for higher prices undeveloped than those of any stallion in Mercer or adjoining 3rd Because his colts have taken more premiums than those of any in Mercer or adjoining counties 4th Because he has a better lecord as a having won 10 out of 13 races and a record as a show horse having won 58 out of 63 shows than any stallion in Mercer or ad ioinlng counties 5th Because Red Leaf is the only horse sired by a horse with a record of 218 C F Clay who has colts with better than 213 and with a dam Lady Hart that every colt she had took a standard record and was a winner and whose grand dam Soprano was the greatest brood mare in the world having 11 In the list and whose sire Clay sold for 6000 and whose dam sold for 1500 whose dams sire Red Wilkes sold for 30000 for a halfInterest and who himself at fourteen years old for 1759 and that has himself sired 14 colts to sell for over 900 some m high as teams from 1500 to 3000 in Mercer or adjoining counties Cth But three of Red Leafs colts were ever trained for speed and they all took records 7th But one of Red colts was ever raced and ne started In 11 or 12 races winning first In one and second in all the others as shown by the Year book and showed miles In 2 15and would have been a sensational horse had he lived 8th Red Leaf has sired more highclass high priced teams than any stallion in Kentucky the past two years 9th I can show several offers of over 3000 for a pair I now have None of those sold five years old and most them under three years old Now I say If you want a trotter Red Leaf is bred to get them as his sire is one of the worlds greatest sires of extreme speed and his dam agreat producer and she by one of the worlds greatest lies of speed Red Wilkes and his sires dam the greatest brood mare in the world If you want show horse he has proven he can get them of the highest quality a threeyearold by him showing through the circuit in regular and sweepstakes and winning 24 out of 96 shows something equaled only by the worlds famous Gipsy Queen If you want a business horse he can get them that will sell for the highest dollars and his fillies are sure to
