well to look into the many advan tages to be had at this school as none better can be found It is close to home is presided over by the best of teachers and is located in a splendid community Mrs Jennie Faulkner White formerly of this city is one of the faculty Watch for Them A party of range salesmen are op erating in a number of Kentucky counties and may be expected to swoop down upon this community at any time The same range they are selling can be bought right here in Lancaster for 30 and they are ask ing 48 for it A number of these range men operated in Clark county several years ago and some who the cheaply constructed range tiey sold them have had ample time for reflection since paying large repair bills The salesmen now operating in the stite offer to take a note giv ing two years time which in reality is payable on demand If you contem plate buying a range better get it of a home dealer who will sell you a better one at less price than the average traveling fakir Some Things About Tobacco The American tobacco grower re ceives an average of about ten cents a pound of striped tobacco from which he must get his pay for the plant his labor his time and his in vestment in a farm The United States Government gets six cent for every pound manufactured The English Goyerment gets an average of seventyfive cents for each pound The Italian and Austrian Govern ment get more than ore dollar The manufactures make millions in profits and the dealers are well pale The consumers pay well for the luxury aid what is the reason the produc r is not well paid for the material They will be when they understand these matters and provide themselves with means to control the Why County Editors Get Rich After a good deal of study and work we have at last figgered out why so many country editors get rich says an exchange Here is the secret of suc cess A child is born in the neigh borhood the attending physician gets 810 the editor gives the youngster and the happy parents a sendoff and get 0 It is christened the minister gets 1 and the editor get 00 It grows up and marries the editor publishes another longwinded flowery article and tells a dozen lies lies about the beautiful and accom pllshed bride the minster get 10 00 and a piece of the editor gets 000 In the of time it dies and the doctor gets from 5 to 100 the minister perhaps getanother 815 the undertaker gets from 25 to 50 editor publishes a notice of the death and an obituary two columns long lodge and society resolutions a lot of poetry and a free card of thanks and gets 0000 No wonder so many editors get rich matter this trash cannot purchased marketEx I cake and course country t contestants assessed loud lunged I CAN HAVE GOOD TOWN What we Need is More Pride ii Home Institutions More Hus tle and Fewer Skinflints I While we are painfully aware and dislike to speak of the fact that hus tIers are scarce in Lancaster yet there are enough to get together reorgan ize the Commercial Club and take steps to bring more business to town While our merchants are not starving yet there is a large volninn of business that could be brought here if our own home people would only pull together and SPEND THEm NONEY AT HOME Our explanation for the falling in business is the ungovernable desire to patronize outside institutions which practice has been on the increase for several years A business man feels little like pushing for a town when he sees his next door neighbor sending cash to mailorder houses and patron izing peoplewho have no interest what ever in Lancasters business welfare or her people We are sorry to say it but we have men in business who or der goods from Kalamazoo if they be lieve they can get them for about a sixteenth of a cent cheaper than the price asked by the home man We have had men who are looked upon as de cent sort of fellows too to come into our ollice and show price lists where they could get a little insignificant job printed in another state for about ten cents cheaper than our price It is just such skinflints and narrow minded spacefillers as these who are the thorn in the side of any and who discourage those who to build up the town We under stand sumo people order their groce ries from the cities to get the benefit of about two cents difference by whole sale prices Of course a man has the right to this but if everybody was this closefisted the town would not last as long as a snowball in hades We have some of the best people on earth right here in Lancaster and if all the money now sent away was spent with Lancaster institutions who are always Foil THE II03IE MAX we WOUld soon have the best town on the map Lets reorganize the Commercial Club pub lish the list of members and then deal with those who come to the front and patronize home enterprises Lets get busy and freeze out the ordering skin Hint and encourage the man who Lancaster people are good to deal with Kentucky Fair Dates The follownig dates fixed
