the Frairkfort Journal But it seems that it was no better than its imitators all of which were forced out of business and officers of same sentenced to the penitentiary where all of them should be he i who lets them severely alone They a fraud and a snare MODERN BURGLAY METHODS Any square door safe in the world can be opened by a burglar in lesst han thirty minutes This was the remark j by II M Tillison Western Superinten dent of the Pinkerton Detective A gency they need is a bottle of nitroglycerine a five cent fuse and a cake of soap 1 In tlfese days of high explosives the methods the old time l requiring set screws and other paraphernalia has passed way Since the introduction of nitro a glycerine the thief will quickly walk up to the safe make a putty cup at the top of the door so that the nitrogly cerine will run into the joint insert a short piece of fuse with a cap on one end touch a match to it and stand to 0 thesafe and in two minutes the door is off If the safe nas an lu side reserve chest this operation can be repeated very quickly The burglar roaches in takes the money and leaves in the darkness All of this is done so quickly that the citizens have been scarcely aroused by the two or three reports and the thief and the 1 money have gone and in the majority of cases they are never captured An enterprising interviewer asked one of the thieves who robbed the Bank at Quimby Iowa as to what make or safe he fouud the hardest to operate on He replied that it made no difference what make of safe it if of the built up or plate construe tiou class and the round screw doors were as easy as any others Asked as to why they had never operated upon any of the Manganese Safes they re plied That as long as there were so many old tea boxes to get at there was no use in tackling anything harder An article recently appeared in the February Scientific American touching en the ungentle art of burg lary and the conclusion that they reached after Investigation was that nearly all safes were vulnerable and could be opened with nitroglycerine and that it did not require experts as in olden times but was as likely to be a hobo as not They concluded how evey that one form of safe to use their words spherical in shape a spherical capable of successfully resisting a nitroglycerine attempt of this kind as it is absolute ly air tight and with the consequent absence of an appreciable opening the safe and the door the in sertion of the nitroglycerine is im possible The Victor Safe Lock Company manufacturers the latest type Spher ical Solid Manganese Steel Screw Door Bank Safe had made exhaustive ex experiments and tests on safes of various constructions which have enabled them to produce the new Spherical Sae with all of weak points eliminated This could only have been accomplished experiments with all known employed by uptodate bank burg lars These safes are not only built to afford the greatest strength but their symmetrical form and the special copper bronze finish used produces a handsome effect enabling them to be used splendid advertisement for the bank as well as protection Orders have been placed with the Victor Company for this type of safe to be used in the new Municipal Bulk lug at Washington D C the first of of the kind to be placed in a Building The Lancaster Nanional Bank has just installed one of these Spherical Solid Manganese Steel Screw Bank Safes and the public is cordially invited to call and made a careful it spection of same Victor Safe Lock Co It Is Dangerous to Neglect a Cold How often do we hear it remarked Its
