fighting with Cincin nati negroes Young is a hardworking boy while the other is the coon who escaped from the Lancaster ruck pile some time since Good Resolutions By Council The City Council met in regular session Monday night and transacted quite a lot of routine business Several kicks were registered about hog pens loose stock and weeds and the police were instructed to enforce the laws strictly and Messrs Beazley and Herron are busy informing the people who are raising hogs under their neighbors nose and pasturing stock on the streets It was ordered that the little Park be put ia decent shape and the streets cleaned If the City Dads will not weary in well doirg and keep the good work going our little city can by hard work be put in decent sanitary condition before the next snow falls Flies and Typhoid Fever Lancaster has always suffered from an epidemic of typhoid fever Those who heard the lecture of Dr J N secretary of the State Board of Health recently delivered in this city must be impressed with the fact that this dreadful malady is spread by the common house fly One fly can carry 3000 of typhoid germs for one mile and deposit them on the food we eat the liquids we drink or the uten sils we use for those purposes With the foregoing facts being so prominent ly before our people we feel that some thing should be done to diminish the spread of the disease and we know of no better way than to follow the ad vice of Dr McCormick which is to screen the doors and windows of our dining rooms and kitchens We would further suggest that everyone begin a war on the fly by the use of fly paper and if we would all begin this at once we would almost exterminate the fly family in Lancaster Screen your doors and windows and put out fly paper and let us make a united and determined fight against this carrier of the fearful typhoid the house fly Going The Limit The stockholders of the Lancaster Fair decided to go to the limit of their ability for music this year so have made a contract for Smitties Band of Cincinnati to furnish the music during the three days of the meeting He is to bring twenty men and the cost thereof is somthing fierce to use a slang expression but the management decided that the people would enjoy concerts by a big Land as much as anything they could secure so decided to go the limit Smittie seldom plays in country towns his figures being too steep but he has signed a contract and the peo pie are assured of music Fair the like of which no other country fair association is willing to secure Brother Barnes Here Rev Geo 0 Barnes the noted arrived in Lancaster Saturday afternoon and began a series of at the court house that night Notwithstanding the fact that no no lice of his coming had been given a good many people were present to hear his message of God is Love and Nothing Else Bro Barnes was born and raised in Lancaster but sad as it is only a few citizens are here He went from Lancaster to the war and the only veteran left in Lancaster today who shouldered a musket and went from this town is Capt Frank J White the veteran who resides on Richmond street Bro Barnes is well advanced in years and while he shows the effects of the hard work he has done in his vineyard yet his mind is as clear his memory as perfect and his arguments as forcible as when In prime of man hood Some of our older citizens with much pleasure the meeting Bro Barnes in this city years ago when tile court house was packed to suffocatian at every service They will likewise never forget the sweet singing by his daughter Miss Marie whose tender notes went stright to the heart of every hearer Miss Marie is today conducting a fashion ble boarding house in Washington City and does not travel with her father entertainment
