summer house at the school ground This summerhouse one of the first built in Kentucky the late Hon George W Dunlup who owned the property having erected it many years ago It attracted wide attention and is today u most beautiful piece of work Knights Templar The Knights Templar who went to the Maysville Conclave from this city secured a dispensation for the establish ment of a Commandeiy in Lancaster and active steps are now being taken to get everything in readiness for the first meeting at which the proper officers will be here to set them to work With the number of Knights now in Garrard county and those in prospect a Commandery of fifty mem bers will soon be established In Fine Shape It will be news to the many patrons of the delightful resort to learn that Dripping Springs will be run on a more elaborate scale than ev er before Mr S D will be in personal charge this year which in sores the best of everything had Much money has been spent on the ho tel a large new stable for the past three years lIe had the best recommenda tions of any of the applicants and the trustees aie confident they have made a good selection We had the pleasure of meeting Prof Bridges and find him to be a cultured gentleman und a man of fine address A Card To my friends Since the campaign for the Demo cratic nomination for representative of Garrard county is virtually over I take this method to appeal to my friends to go to the polls on Saturday and vote If they do this my election is certain but their failure to come out will weaken my forces and to that extent strengthen the opposition Many defeats have resulted from too much confidence and 1 beg my friends to consider well the impor tance of casting their votes 1 feel confident of the nomination if my full vote is cast Thanking them in ad vance for their loyal and united sup port I am Very truly G T Farris Bro Ellis to Leave As stated in a recent issue of The Record Rev C S Ellis pastor of tha local Baptist church and also of the one at Mt Hebron tendered his resigna ti3n and same was reluctantly accept ed Bro Ellis has been called to the Baptist church at and will leave for that point in a few days It is with the keenest regret that not on ly the but the entire community part with this Godly man He is a good preacher and was con stantly striving tc uplift some unfor tunate person or say a word of comfort to those in distress Outside the pulpit he put forth every effort in his power to help upbuild the cause of the church and never failed to hasten to the relief and comfort of those he knew to be straying from the straight and way Such men are few and far between and in his departure Lancaster suffers a severe loss He carries with him the best wishes of a legion of and admirers I Pay for The several persons having united with the church Rev Mr Shepherd who came to con duct the meeting was called home and most of the discourses were delivered by Bro Ellis only the members but the general community were great ly benetltted by the meeting The Lighting Franchise The present franchise for lighting the city of Lancaster will expire short ly and the City Council will tise for bids for a new one Tile Coun cil will comply with the desire of nine tenths of the people if they will let the new franchise for an all night ser vice as the present arrangement is not at all satisfactory in fact it is a very serious inconvenience The cost of running from midnight on todaylight could not oe very much more as the boilers are hot and full of steam and tires must be kept up until twelve oclock or after No town of any conse quence save Lancaster holds to the out ofdate and old fogy plan of shut ting down at midnight The Record believes the Council is for up to the minute ways and will order bids for an all night service The Graded School The trustees of the Graded School have been doing some hard work dur ing the past few weeks and the result will be of great value to the school Prof S W
