out We win soon have the best service in the state The wheat crop panned out very poorly in some sections and a few crops were not worth cutting Other crops were about up to the average Only To Cincinnati Sunday The L and 5s will run another cheap fare excursion to Cincinnati next Sunday leaving Lancaster at 5 a m Fare 1 SO for the round trip Tram arrives in Cincinnati at 1030 a m and does not leave for the return trip un il 730 p m Many attractions in the city aud a big crowd will go Killing Competition- In its investigation of the Tobacco Trust Government will show that in addition to the numerous small plants which have been driven out business forty two large factories have been closed by purchase in the effort to eliminate all competition More than a million dollars was spent in Kentucky in the purchase of plants A Fine Entertainment The entertainment given at the courthouse Friday evening for bene tit of the Grove C E Society was one of the best ever presented in Lancas ter and was greatly enjoyed We re gret t hat the date was fixed at that us a protracted meeting and oth er causes prevented many people from being there who would have attended The entertainment was under direc tion of Miss Lillian and 1 he splendid program showed that she understands the selection of what will please the people We regret that lack of space prevents an extended notice of each number Those who took part were Misses Lillie B Leav ell Bertie Jean Penny Edith Myall Helen will Miss Em E Smith and Prof J W Ireland the accompaniments be ing played by Miss Edith Moore All are splendid he wants it The Record ollice has just turned out the catalogue for the Lancaster colored fair Get a copy at any of the stores The fourth quarterly meeting will he held at the Lancaster Methodist Church the tirst Saturday in August Haags shows have some of the best clowns in America The actors are the best and the animals the rarest carried by any show this season Haags shows will pitch tents in Lan caster next Monday the 29th The show has a herd of performing wild beasts many ponies and other attractions which will draw a big crowd to town See big ad on another page The Cynthianna Elks lave issued handsome catalogues for their big fair which which will be held July 31 to Aug 3 Clever Jim Allen is the secre tary of this big entertainment which will be one of the best in Kentucky Few drunks were gathered in Men day The arrest was somthing so un nsual that a large crowd was attracted by the occurrence Lancaster once noted for her lawlessness is now as quiet as a county grave yard and it has all been brought about by securing officers who play no favorites and who do their dutv to the letter Meeting at Hubble A protracted meeting will begin at the Hubble Methodist church on the 29th and will continue for ten days or two weeks It will be con ducted by Rev P H Davis who is city missionary in Louisville Buys Store Mr B E Corder of Somerset has bought out the stock of Groceries of S D Turner on Depot street and will run a first elms Grocery in the Jones store house on opposite side of street Mr Corder is an experienced merchant and will add a general line of Dry goods and noticns to his stock later He has engaged Miss Fannie Austin as saleslady where she will be glad to wait upon her many friends Jessamine Will Come Nicholasville Journal Jessamine will be well represented at the Lancas ter fair next week There are no ter people anywhere than those that live in old Garrard They know how to make people feel at home and if you do not have a good time it is interesting one in Lancaster The big Fair h a large tented theatre is giving nightly shows on Richmond street a circus will be here there will be two or three dances while every home is chock full of visitors Verily times are lively so lets enjoy ourselves Preaching In Park Owing to the hot weather Mr Faul coner is conducting his meetings in the park every evening and large crowds gather there to hear his eloquent and earnest sermons These services will be held in the Park all week the weath cr permitting Everybody is cordially invited to attend A large platform has been erecred and the speaker can be seen and heard The Records Cartoons The Record is the only paper in the state using cartoons of local people Many of our readers have told of their appreciation of this feature and we are glad to know that our efforts are well thought of They are expensive to have cast but we want to please our readers The drawings are made by Mr a local artist whose workhas brought forth much favorable comment from man experienced in the art of drawing from memory as Mr button does Interest Continnes Interest in the meetings conducted by Rev II N Faulconer at the Presby terian church continues and the house is well tilled every evening As stated in last issue of The Record Mr Faulconer is preaching some ex ceedingly interesting sermons and all who hear them are greatly beuetitted thereby Mr Faulconer is a close stud ent a good speaker and a thoughtful man who will do great good in the world The meetings will close next Sunday night The Colored Fair The colored fair will be held Friday and Saturday Aug 8 10 This office has just turned out a hand some catalogue for this fair and it gives a list of very liberal premiums and wellarranged programs for each day The association has secured Jas II Wilsons famous Lexington band and splendid music is assured This association is composed of Lancaster and Garrard countys best and most prominent colored people and the ex hibitions always reflect great credit upon them Big Crowd At Crab Orchard The warm weather has driven a big crowd to Crab Orchard Springs and reports from there say a more happy and contented lot of people could not be found anywhere Mr and Mrs Wil 1 s certainly kt how to ett rtain their guests and the splendid table and health giving waters makeastay there one of pleasure and inestimable benefit to the health The property has been greatly improved and the resort gotten back into its oldtime form so well remembered by the people of many states The Big Danville Fair The big fair at Danville will be held July 31 and Aug 1st and 2nd thisyear and the exhibition will surpass any of the many good ones given heretofore in that hospitable and progressive city The catalogue is a very handsome one and you may have a copy by writing a postal to H C Bright the secretary The Danville fair is always a success as it is conducted on business princi ples and under the management of men who know how to get up the very best As usual a big crowd from Lan caster and Garrard county will attend Popularity Contest The popularity contest inaugurated under the auspices of the Lancaster Fair are 250 of the finest horses in Kentucky here for the show All public conveyances carrying passengers to the fair grounds for li cents each way are not charged a license fee There are so many tine horses here that stable room is at a premium However the management has taken good care of all President Burton never tires in en tertaining the visitors He is never so happy as when doing somthiiig for the pleasure of visitors The hop tonight is given by the Lan caster Cotillion Club to which many invitations have been issued Tickets of admission will be required of all who attend I The Lancaster Hop Club will give a big ball at Amory Hall Thursday even ing Weber will play and a time is anticipated Six car loads of tine cattle came in to day to be shown at the fair This a lone will bring a tremendous crowd Some of the finest herds in the state are here The award badges are beauties The oldtime blue and red ribbons were discarded and handsome badges bought The winners will delight in preserving these badges The Records artist wanted to several other members of the fair association but they have all been hustling around so he could not catch them still long enough A tiner collection of hogs was never gotten together in Kentucky The decision to have this display was a wise one for it is the first time our people have ever been given an oppor turnity to see such a collection The pens are well arranged not crowded and iu a good location picture delightful Dont lug a basket to the grounds but go to Zimmers table and geta first class dinner served at a regular table and in the best passible manner Secretary Elkin a fine likeness of whom appears in this issue has work ed like a trojan Hes the best in the state If you hare aay questions to ask stop him from his work and m him tell you Oh no hes not busy The display of cattle is the best to he seen in Central Kentucky The Hagan cattle from Lexington are at trading much attention Mr Hagan i one of the richest men in the coun try and has spent a fortune in getting this herd together Lancaster has best band in the to play for its fair Webers prize band of America and the music will be the best
