an immense feed were wire to run from the plant to the public square where the wires divert to the different streets Lan caster has the lowest rates of any town in central Kentucky and when Mr Walker completes the now in course we will have excellent service Shake Maj Lillard The Record congratulates its good friend Major E W Lillard upon his election as representative of Boyle county in the next General Assembly While one of the best and most sue men in the state Maj Lillard has devoted much time to poll tics and is well up on the needs of the state today He can be counted upon to do what he honestly believes to be right and the good people of our neighboring county will never have cause tc regret his election Isnt This Fine Some idea of the complete manner in which lawlessness has been stamp ed out of Lancaster may be nad from the fact that account of Police Judge Armstrong for fees for services in the past month was less than one dollar Think of such a change from the old time accounts of from 25 to 75 each month for maintaining the court The work house has been empty for more than two months This shows what good officers can do and speaks volumns for all know the terrible state of affairs not more than a thou sand years ago Inauguration Conflicting dates have been in the newspapers for the inauguration of Governor Willson The correct date is Tuesday December 10th which is the fifth Tuesday after his election and fixed in the State Constitution The plans already set on foot by the Frankfort Business Mens Club provide for an elaborate parade and day cere monies and an inaugural fall at night The old ballroom at the Capitol Hotel has been cut up into rooms and the tall will be held in the Coliseum Skat ing Rink on the South Side I The Maccabees Thriving Mr M F Elkin who is one of the officers in the Grand Lodge Knights of the Maccabees was here last week and made this office a pleasure call Mike as everyone calls him is wide ly known and greatly liked by all This is his old home and he was warmly received By the way he tells us the order named above is growing rapidly and now has five million dollars in its treasury withwhich to pay death claims By a recent ruling a person can make application for insurance and membership and the only cost is one dollar which goes to the physician making the examination The applica tion fee has been abolished Now that only the dollar Is to be paid many men will take advantage of the opoar tunity to get absolutely safe insurance at the very cheapest rates The lodge is one of the largest in this section and those carrying insur ante therein would not part wltn it under any consideration Many poli cies have been paid in Lancaster and there baa never been the slighted de lay or contention about one I I Improvements f Gov Willson Lancaster cessful business MR PRICES GOOD WORK Our neighboring county of Boyle seems to be the only one in the state which came up smiling withan increas ed Democratic majority after the Re publican landslide of Tuesday and the credit is largely due to one of Garrards native sons Hon Wm Jennings Price who was Democratic Campaign Chair man there Boyle is known to be a very close county in fact to be Repub lican by poll but on Tuesday it gave I Hager the lead by 216 being the larg est majority given any candidate for Govenor in forty years and in addi tion usually heretofore going Republi can in state and national races Gov Bradley carried it over Hardin by 157 The result is all the more remarkable in view of the fact that McCreary car ried the county in the Democratic pri mary last Fall by about 400 and Tues days returns indicate that the bad hu mor resulting from this primary was the cause of much of the stayat home and knifing among the Democrats on the 5th In this primary however Mr Price was Chairman of McCrearys campaign in Boyle and in his Demo cratic loyalty must have shown a spirit this year that was attractive and ani matingIt pleasure to note the lack of acrimony or charges of fraud and cor ruption when a contest is oyer in the county of Boyle Mr Price and his loyal fellow workers conduct their cam paigns with the fierceness and aggres siveness of a Forrest charge but open and clean In addition to other quali ties for which Mr Price is held in es teem in Garrara his neighboring po litical organization and friends give him recognition as a tactful political leader of the character that makes for better things in Kentucky The ladies of the Methodist church will have an apron sale in Thompsons store on Dec 14th Your patronage will be appreciated tf Hon John Sam Owsley has been county judge of Lincoln coun ty to fill a vacancy caused by death of Judge Warren Mr Owsley is an ex ceedingly popular man and his is a satisfactory one When In Danville Those of our our people who have had the pleasure of dinning at Lillards excellent cafe in Danville are more than delighted with the splendid ser vice and fare You can get anything you want and at very reasonable prices The cafe his drugstore opposite the Gilcher The is one of the greatest improve ments the town has had Serious Football Accident In the game of football between Richmond and Lancaster on Giaded Friday a serious occurred which came near cans ing the death of Virgil Conn of this city In the play he collied with a young man on the Richmond team well as the various forms of casein An analysis of milk shows that chem ically it contains water fat casein sugar phosphate of lime magnesia phosphate of iron of potassium chloride of I and some soda combined with cream The milk sugar forms a very part of the whole and is put at as much as four per cent Water constitutes from SO to 87 of the whole weight The kind of milk furnished is controlled by the age of the animal it though the richness is due very largely to the breeding of the cow that is some cows produce offspring that give rich milk rather than milk of inferior quality The various salts that enter into milk probably more of a factor in its digestibil ity than we now know says Farmers Review In fact there Is much about milk that has never been searched out by scientists For instance what value has the phosphate of iron which is present in milk only to the extent of seven onethousandths of one It is probable that each of these elements plays a considerable role There is the chloride of sodium salt It is present in normal milk to the extent of 24 onethousandths of one per cent and yet it seems to be quite essential Cows have been of salt to the extent of greatly reducing their milk flow but just how this was connected with the salt we do not yet know There are many things in milk that worth finding out Some day we may learn that the food of cows must have certain things in them that we now deem of no particular nutritive value The study of milk has not yet reached the stage where it yields data to settle all the questions that seem so difficult One of the great things as yet little studied is the sugar in milk which often exceeds the fat content Is there a close relation the fat and the sugar A study of the two in conjunction might yield some results of great commercial value NeW Catechism for Schools Some three years ago by invitation of the Church of Scotland representa tives of the other Reformed churches met with delegates from that body to consider the matter of religious in struction in the public schools of Scot land A subcommittee appointed by the conference to prepare a simple catechism for use in the schools where children of the various churches are taught together has now reported the revised book contains nearly as many questions and answers as the historic Shorter Catechism it has been greatly simplified in lan guage and statements bearing upon doctrinal differences between the have been omitted There Is of course no purpose to supplant the Shorter Catechism In the Sunday schools and churches I Irl I x is past attention is being turned to the selec tion of candidates for offices to be fill ed in the near future Among these Is that of Democratic candidate for State Senator from this district While The Central Record takes no hand in politics yet we do keep a weather eye on men and matters in the political field and try to keep posted It seems to us that if the Democrats want a man whom they know will win and one who will command the respect and confidence of members of heal parties that man is none other than Hon Reed Embry of Boyle We un derstand it is Boyles turn to have the nomination and this being the case it seems that the Democratic leader should insist on Mr Embry making t e race There is no brighter man in the district nor do we know of one who would fill the office with more dignity and satisfaction A brilliant man an eloquent speaker and a gentleman of the highest honor and integrity Reed Embry would serve the people in such a manner as would call forth the praise of even the most bitter par tisans of his opposing party He has worked faithfully for the interests of his party and as editor of the Dan yule Advocate has written many arts cles of untold help for the ticket We trust the Democrats will consider the matter and give our brother editor the honor he so richly deserves BRYANTSVILLE Miss EIza Ison is on the sick list Mrs Henry Tomlinscn is visiting at most conservative often pick a lower grade of goods in a clean neat package in preference to a socd article in an un attractive package declares a writer in Farm and Home Buyers invari ably pick the best looking product and pay a premium for it In packing butter for the retail or grocers trade if made in sufficient quantities I use a good ash tub which has previously been soaked in a strong brine from 16 to 24 hours with the sides and bottom lined with parchment paper and a cloth circle on the top After adding the cloth circle I always sift a thin layer of salt on top of it as it holds the cloth in place and keeps the air from the butter The cover should be well fastened on with small strips of tin If I were in position to cater to a retail trade or direct to the con sumer I would put up my butter in either one or twopound prints them in parchment paper which bore my own trade mark or design so that the consumer would always know my product as uniform quality and always clean One dealer has handled my goods for 12 years and has regular cus tomers who refuse to accept any other Occasionally during the winter months our market is not sufficient to supply the demand and he has to fill orders from other sources Just aa often as he does he has complaints Always put a good article in an package and you will have no trouble in disposing of it but a poor package means damaged con
