placed a good or der witn us for printed matter He tells us that notwithstanding the money panic his bank h more cash in the safe than usual and that they are doing more business than usual at this time of the year This bank has had a wonderful growth brought a bout by careful management and polite and efficient treatment to the public Root For Your Town If you have made up your mind to live in a town then stand up for it and if you know positively no good then silence is golden says an exchange Do all you can to help along every man who is engaged in legitimate Do not send away for everything nice you want and still expect the home men to keep a stock to suit the whim of one or two customers The success of your fellow townsmen will be your success No man liveth to himself and no man does business mde pendently of his fellow business men Take your home paper Do not ima gine the big dailies flU up all this space There are many little messages of good cheer social sunshine personal mention in the home paper that the big dailies do not print Do not abuse your neighbor The main difference in the number of his faults and your own is that you see through a magnifying glass as a critic The ill omened the croaker can do a town more harm in a minute than two good citizens can repair in a month Card of Thanks We take this method ot thanking the friends and neighbors who were so kind to us during our recent bereave went the Lord bless them is the prayer of Gee Spoonamore and wife I I preach I I requested I I business May 1 Gillispie Will Case The Gillispie will case has been on trial before Judge A D Ford all of this week A great many witnesses have been examined the question of the capability of Mr Gillispie to make a will being the pcint at issue The attorneys are for the will Hon Jerry Sullivan Jas I Hamilton Lewis L Walker R Tomlinson P M Mc Roberts Attorneys against the will are Joe E Robinson W I Williams J Tevis Cobh and Robt Hardin To Close Thanksgiving Several leading merchants have ex pressed the opinion that it will be wise to close their stores all day Thanks giving Of course there will be nothing doing in a business way and why merchants should to keep open and make their clerks stay cooped up all day is incomprehensible Close your store let your clerks have a chance to get a breath of fresh air and youll find you have not only done them a favor but given a short rest that will put them in better shape to wait upon the Christmas trade The Turkey Market Paris turkey mar ket is not as rushing as compared to last year when the toothsome fowls were commanding 13 cents per pound for live weight and 18 to 20 cents per pound dressed Chas S Brent Bro of this city the largest shippers of dressed turkeys in Kentucky are paying 11 cents per pound for turkeys delivered at their slaughtering pens in Paris Millersburg Carlisle and Flemingsburg ana will ship today by fast freight to Boston Mass one car each from the above mentioned points The next shipment will be made next Wednesday by ex press no live fowls being received for the Thanksgiving market after that date Farmers throughout the turkey producing district of Central Kentucky are in no eagerness to sell at the prices offered and many flocks are being held for the Christmas market Sane Safe and Solid The patriotic press is being given deserved credit for preventing a finan cial panic in this country says the Harrodsburg Democrat The newspa pers have certainly behaved well in the face of temptations to be sensa tional The real wealth of the coun try has not been reduced by any stock slumps The farmers have theircrops to sell and good prices are being real ized for all our cereals and foodstuffs The manufacturer has his markets the employer continues to produce the employe gets his good wages and main tains his high standard of living The exchange of commodities and services goes on and will go on at the full rate of the last few years of prosperity for all the real conditions for the continu ance of such prosperity are still with us Thus there is no reason why any man of sense should lese confidence in the future of our industries and our commerce And only the loss of confidence could cause setback to our normal business activties If the peo ple will take care of the factor in the light of the figures and facts that speak for themselves the other factors will take abundant the prosperity we have enjoyed a prosperity based on honest toil on rich harvests on an unprecedented de mand for products of soil and factory Level heads are all that is neces sary to prevent the stock gamblers from upsetting our affairs and they I seem to be eminently possessed by the people of these great and prosperous United States FINAL Experiment Station Seek ing to Produce Such Variety We have but begun to appreciate what may be accomplished by cross ing plants selecting the best of the results and heavily feeding plants with all kinds of plant food At the New Jersey station the horticulturist has been trying to develop seedless to matoes by crossing and he has prac tically succeeded Ordinarily a tomato contains hundreds of seeds but the ones being produced at the station mentioned contain few seeds and some of them are seedless One va riety has been named the Giant on account of the very large size the plant attains It was produced by crossing the Golden Sunrise upon Dwarf Champion and selecting the best for a number of years Attempts to cross this variety with others have failedAt Wisconsin station Prof Sand sten has been trying to reach the same end by feeding the plants a very large quantity of plant food Most of his trials were carried on in the green house where he fertilized at the rate of 800 pounds of nitrate of soda 600 pounds of sulphate of potash and 1 000 pounds of dessicated bone per acre He found that he was able to get tomatoes with a smaller number of seeds than usual and in some cases the plants produced fruit having abso lutely no seeds These had to be prop agated by cuttings but when they were grown outside of the greenhouse they produced larger fruit than inside the greenhouse Much is to be expected from this kind of work which if it continues will flood the world with new of plants says Farmers Review The tomato is a good plant on which to operate as it is easily propagated by means of cuttings Its rapid growth and great fruitfulness make it to early determine results There are quicker results obtained because the tomato as we now have it is an artificial product and so lends itself very easily to variations But what can be accomplished with the tomato can be accomplished in a lesser degree on plants less subject to variation In the production of the seedless tomato great truths are being enunciated and demonstrated CHEAP BARREL CRATE How a Shipper Makes Two Out of One Barrel A correspondent of the Chicago In terOcean furnished that publication with a sketch of a
