satisfactory settlement was made through their agent Ed C Gaines Death of Former Lancaster Man The Rolla Mo HeraldDemocrat tells of the death in that city of Capt C R Millard which occurred on the 2ncl Capt Millard resided in Lancas ter for many years being engaged in the dry goods and clothing business He was born in Tennessee and served in the Confederate army He moved to Parsons Kas in 1876 where he was engaged in business for some year Capt Millard was a very popular man in Lancaster and had many friends among the older citizens who will re gret te hear of his death The Electric Theatre The electric theatre in the Sweeney store room is delighting large crowds and proving the source of much pleas ure and amusement to the people The moving pictures are as good as can be seen in any of the large cities and with the complete change of program each night gives much pleas ure to our people A small admission a charged These entertainments will be given every Friday and Saturday night The is owned by Messrs G M Patter son and Alex Walker two of our en terprising citizens This is one of the most wonderful inventions of the age and you should not fail to see it The Weather If anyone ever experienced more disagreeable weather than the people of Central Kentucky have been up against for the past few weeks he should hold his tongue for should he begin to tell of anything more objectionable he would at once be classed like a fisherman a Sunday only Christian or a practical politician We have had snow biting winds and an occasional smile from Old Sol the whole being cut up into small bits about the size of the ingredients of boarding house hash One day a fel low can get oat without his overcoat while the next morning the wind will be as cold as a stepmothers heart Kentucky may be thegarden spot of the world in many respects but with all due love to our mother state excuse us on the climate We get both ex cold as charity in winter and as hot as the moneylovars final restingplace in summer Muddy Streets Dirty Pavements The mud on the streets and has been worse this winter than ever before This is attributable to the fact that good rock can not be obtained and that used on the streets has been of a soft quality that grinds into a powder when run over by heavy wagons This same trouble exists in all Kentucky towns as it seems to get rock hard enough to stand the wear and tear Some people say the rock used days withstood the wear but these wiseacres must stop and remember the fact that every class of vehicle us ed today is from twice to three times as heavy as those used some years ago Fault is not so much with the rock as heavy claw of wagons hauled over it Then again there is twice as much hauling today as was done fifteen or twenty years ago Another cause of the mud and dirt is from the use of machinery to break or more properly speaking crushing the stone The crusher crushes all right but the people get the dust and dirt caused by the crushing The Becord would suggest that criminals be made to break rock in tbe oldtime manner thus placing good rock on the high ways and serving as a warning to hose inclined to violate the laws of he Agricultural Education The train is being operated jointly by by the Georgia State College and the railroads of the State The itinerary will cover about 3000 miles and will occupy about a months time That hemp will feature strongly in the crops raised in 1908 seems assured from the large acreage now being leased for the growing of that com modity Next to tobacco and almost on a par with it hemp is regarded as a money crop Now that there will be curtailing if not a complete of tobacco from products many farmers who fornerly depended upon it for their main crop look forward to the fibrous plant for this year Here is the way the Dover News figures the cost of tobacco producticn We have the figures at this office show ing what it costs to raise five acres of tobacco The figures were made by one who is supposed to know According to these figures it costs a tenant 278 90 to plant cultivate and market a crop of 5000 pounds If this should be sold at ten cents a pound the tenant would receive for his one half of the crop 250 By the time land lord figures the interest on his money repairs to his barns taxes exhaustion of land etc a good sized hole will be knocked it his wad Farmers Home OSTEOPATHY Nothing tells like truth and facts Osteopathy sustains its claims with such an array of facts that it bewilders the scoffer convinces the skeptic It IB not empiricism it is scienceit better and it is being demon liberates the life farces of nature utilizes them aginst the ravages of disease and thus restores to health multitudes of socalled incurable Thousands of cronic cases have The Osteopath is differently situated from the medical prucliuioner who simply felc the pulsa asked questions wrote a prescription and failed to sub due the malady Everybody knows what allopathy and homeopathy mean but not nearly everybody knows what osteopathy means It is yet new and these enthusiastic patients exhilerafced with regained health feel that they can in no way better offset their debt of gratitude to their doctor and per form their full duty to huiuanit than to spread the news that there exists a complete and effectual system of treating all curable diseases without drugs or knife that it is not Christian science rubbing or scientific massage but genuine osteo pathy This apprecition from great hearts works wonders it brings new patients sweels the profession in a decade from one practitioner to thousands gains favorable legislation and recognition as a distinct system of healing in over one half of the states places our student body ahead of all other schools in numbers except the allopathic school Great are the results they are the means of this unprecented growth our most potent weapon with which future battles will be fought and won Osteopathy does not injure Drugs are foreign to the system and are always injurious even in those cases where there is real or apparent benefit Osteopathy does not impose burdens on the stomach in order to relieve a pain in the foot It does not fill the blood with toxins in order to relieve a congestion in the head it does not burden the excretory organs in order to bring about a nor mal metabolism of the tissues It removes obstructions and sets the machinery of life in motion and nature does the rest The wise and physician uses drugs but many people demand drugs they expect drugs of their physicians they would be disappointed if they did not receive drugs and they genera lly get what they expect even the family physician is not always a saint But there many physicians who have been trained to give drugs and who believe in drugs and of course they give drugs whether desired or not We say the tendency on the part of physicians is against drug giving at least the tendency is to the recogni tionof the futility of drugs and yet drug giving Is their business and it is per haps not exaggerating to say that the majority of physicians use drugs and use them freely in their practice Tn deed what else would they prescribe Itwould be a little difficult for us to imagine the formula of a physicians prescriptIOn if the drugs were omitted The Latin terms for fresh air bathing exercise pure water massage etc would look a little odd in the regulation prescription The druggist might be a little embarrassed in collecting his fees and as the phy sician does not himself administer manipulation there would not be much left for him to do So of course the only thing that is left for the drug physician is tc administer drugs The people are learning what the doctors have long since learned that there is not so much in drugs after all Dr Rosebery Itch In The Skin Not in The Blood People with Eczema etc Make Grievous Error by Taking Medicine into the Stomach When your hand is scalded with hot
