LANDRAM EdrPubr Sniertd at the Post OJJics in Lancaster Ky a SecondClass Hail Matter Member y Press Association ifR JlklL Vu jU I Iyrall gives Lancaster Ky May 22 1908 The following from the North American Review shows the cost or immigrant labor and proves that restrictions should be placed on If let alone the foreign ele ment will soon hold the reins of and it will be run to agree with their views on all questions There are two powerful streams quite reciprocal in one flowing toward the other from this have created new forces in our econmic life while changing the whole current of events in parts of Europe Both are today at mark Every year from 1000000 to 1250000 aliens are admitted to Ameri can ports Some come to work and sweat and save so that finally they may relapse in to a life of ease in the land of their nativity They form the westward flowing stream Out of this stream there is created that other one whose current is eastward But where as the first is of humanity the second is of gold Out of the savings of the foreignborn in America 250000 a year is now going abroad The annual increase is about 10 per cent If this money were retained here it would be sufficient every four year to liquidate our interest debt It cannot be con trolled It is the quid pro quo the international credit balance to which the immigrant laborer is entitled if he is worthy of his hire The annual distribution Jf this great sum of money throughout Europe is in the following proportion Italy 70000 000 845000000 Great Britain 24000000 and Sweden 825000000 Russia 25000 000 Germany 815000 Greece 5000 000 all others including France Switzerland Belgium and Denmark 10000000 The Uonferencs of Governors held in Washington to agree upon some plans to protect our natural resources was a move in the right direction and results are expected that will preserve our forests our soil our tim ber and our coal supply against un nessary waste for the benefit of com ing generations We clip the follow ing from m address delivered on that occasion If coal production continues to increase as it has in the last ninety years the available supply will be greatly reduced oy the close of the ten tury Before that time arrives how ever resort to lower grades and sinking of mines to greater depths will be come necessary making the product inferior in quality and higher in price Already Great Britains industries have felt the check from a similar cause as shown in her higher cost of production Our turn will begin pro bably within a generation or two from this time Yet we still think noth ing consuming this priceless resource with the greatest possible speed On the Pacific coast only is there now any considerable body of merchantable standing timber We are consuming yearly three or four times as much timber as forest growth restores Our supply of some varieties will be practi cally exhausted in ten or twelve years in the case of others without reforest lug the present century will see the end When will we take up in a prac tical and intelligent way the restora tion of our forests PAINT LICK There is much sickness in the neigh borhood and it keeps the doctors going day and night Paint Lick is on a boom now It has the water works now in operation and there is talk of having electric lights soonCurry son of Mr and Mrs G W Rice who had his leg broken and had to lie in the house for two months is now able to get out once more and take a buggy ride There was a small crowd at the skating rink on the 15th as the farmers are all busy getting their crops in while the weather experimental stage is now one of the leading industries of the Town and County About the time we City fellows are eating breakfast we see a number of wagons loaded with shining cans of fresh milk corn ing into the Creamery some of the wagons coming for ten miles or more The Plant is now receiving about 3000 pounds of milk per day which is soon separated and by 9 oclock the wagons make their return trip loaded with sterilized skim milk for the farmer to feed his pigs and calves which we are told is worth 2i cents per gallon to feed to hogs when they are selling at 4 50 per cwt From the number of our farmers who are get ting more cows it seems that their ex perience is teaching them that the money invested and the time and labor expended they are realizing more profit from their cows by sending milk to the Creamery than from any other of their farm products The Creamery here has also proven a benefit to the farmer who is not located on the milk routes as it has kept up the price of country butter and has also increased the value of cows and also enhances the value of land The Creamery but ter brings on the market from 10 to 15 cents above country butter the patrons of our Creamery having as high as 34 cents per pound for their butter Another splendid feature of this industry is that it re licves the farmers wives and daughters of the drudgery of taking care of milk and churning which is a great deal in these times of scarcity of help for the farmers wife Success in any enter prise depends on management and the untiring efforts and constant attention of the manager Mr G B Swmebroad have insured the success of this undertaking The manager tells us he has the best butter maker in the country and if you will try some of the butter he makes you will say so too The honor of the Juniors Friday evening The library of the school was beautifully decorated and the lawn with Chinese lanterns and settees made a most charming sight Elegant refreshments were served and the evening was one of great pleasure to the guests The Most Common Cause ofSuffering Rheumatism causes more pain and suffering than any other disease for the reason that it is the most common of all ills and it is certainly gratifying to suffers to know that Chamberlains Pain Balm will afford relief and make rest and sleep possible In many cases the relief from pain which is at first temporary has become parmanent while in old people subject to chronic rheumatism often brought on by dampness or changes in the weather a pennant cure cannot be expected the relief from pain which this lini ment affords is alone worth many times its cost 25 and 50 cent sizes for sale by Frisbie lm I Person aI sI Miss ReUa parentsMr t F P I commencement r is AS in el Has Lebanon for a visit Mr Jeff Dunn
