yet remains enough of the simple truths that any one can under stand to make the book valuable be yond price Any one can understand that whatsoever ye would that men should do unto you do ye even so to them Word comes from theatrical centers that there Is a shortage of chorus girls This no doubt Is duo to the Increased demand and to the futber fact that the girls who have been on the stage for the last forty or fitLy years have reached the age limit Modern show taste has had something to do with the Increased demand There seems to be a feeling among play writers that the public demands something of the that this can be best met by an array of apparently plump females In diaphanous and other aluring ralnmet It Is a quea tlon though if the majority of the playing public would not prefer some of the good dramas In place of a of the spectacular stuff Is put on the stage today The girl certainly has had her day and It is time to return to the strictly legtl mate play acting that the mellbwe t oneS DISASTROUS PinK The Huitllni City of Paint Lick most Wiped Off the Map by Plamea Thursday night about nine oclock fire was discovered In a table In the rear of Champ A Gos store In the thriving little city of Paint Lick The alarm was given and all hands rushed to the scene Not hating equipment for fighting fire buckets to be de pended upon but this proved of little assistance In the fight The flames soon spread to Champ Gos store and this large establishment was soon completely enveloped and burned to the ground Little of the largo stock was removed so rapidly did the lIre spread The Peoples Bank on right of this store caught and the hardest fighting was the Handsome structure saved The fire continued to spread toward the creek consuming the frame building and Igniting the bridge over Paint Lick From the bridge It continued to a stable thence catching the barber shop and meat market These were licked up in almost as little time as It takes to tell the story and the large store of O A Ballard was In flames This was quickly devoured the flames leaping to the Veranda Hotel The hotel was soon completely enveloped In flames and burned to the ground In the meantime the people were working like trojans to remove the contents of all the buildings and while quite a lot of goods were removed yet they were badly damaged and some com ruined by the hurried band ling Some of the guests at the hotel only saved a few of their belongings The stocks of goods of E C McWhor ter A B Estrldge and J M Metcalfes drug store were removed to the street as It looked as If the entire town doomed and had the wind been blow there would have been nothing The origin of the fire Is a mva tery as no one seems to know how It caught In the a portion of which bad been converted Into a was a lot of machinery belong ing to Mr McWhorter and Mr Ballard and as no one bad occasion to be In the building the origin Is still more of a mystery The bank while damaged by tire lost nothing of Its fixtures and as all books etc were In the splendid vault they resumed business the next morn lag aa usual The losses are heavy on those concerned and the deepest sympathy Is felt by all for those who so un fortunate The fire Is a great calamity to the hustling city but we are that the energetic citizens will at once take steps to rebuild the town erecting modern uptodate business houses The hotel lotr with the land on which stood the Ballard and other structures will no w afford ample room to erect four large store rooms and we are told by one cf the leading citizens that steps will be taken at to this end Chump Co will erect a new build lag at once on the old site where their store was destroyed During the fire Dr Carman and Mr Woods were painfully Injured while fighting the tire
