who has iHsm in either time free school or College for till filIIor winter should go on with his work through the spring If it does not there is a loss either he will need to go overtime seine ground next year or else ho will not attend school at The Spring Terms work should bo the best iu tho year Time classes are already organized pupils have got acquainted with their teachers and momentum is up mid this in n great advantage It takes a good part of tho Full and Winter Terms to get under Lend way but that is already accomplished for the Spring Term and mho work goo right on rapidly with vigor Then time expenses such as R K fare have been paid and tho cost is little moro for six or nine mouths schooling than for three When a student imps once gone to the trouble to get ready to go away to school it is to his advantage to tnako tho most of it and ono of tho ways of doing this is to stay through the yearNow there are cases whore it is ab solutely necessary perhaps tint parr outs take children out of school but wo fool that in many instances if time parent could understand the situa tion they would try to manage to let time children stay for the Spring Term even if they had to hire some of the spring work on tho farm Many of our pupils practically lose tho bone fits of a whole years work by dropping out in tho spring We wish wo might see the parents of all our pupils sad talk with them in regard to these matters and get them to see that it is to their advan tage to keep their children in for time Spring Term As this is not possible it is hoped that this letter will do something towards calling parents attention to so important a considera r tion SOME ADVANTAGES OF TILE DRAINAGE Ono of tho great advantages of tile draining hind is the readiness with which tho land can bo worked in wet weather The College farm allbrds several examples of this One field of ten acres drained for threefourths of its lougthwas in corn lust year In tho fall the fodder was not all hauled off before time rains set in limit as far as the drains extended the teams could go on amid remove a good load without trouble though previously a part of the ground had been too wet for cultivation A hundred feet beyond the tile the ground was found so soft that ono of the teams was tioirly mired down having dilliculty in getting out with the empty wagon At present writing ono of our tile drained fields of very black low land is fit for plowing while an adjoining field of exactly the same quality of soil but not yet tiled is so wet that a mean cite scarcely cross it foot These drained lands have Ion fortyfive bushels to time acre before tho tile was laid they were not considered worth cultivating There are many hundreds of acres of Kentucky lauds whore equally great improvement could be made by drainage or other improved methods of funning The young men who take tho Agricultural Course are care fully instructed in all those methods and get n great deal of actual practice on the College farm If they have not fmmsof their own to gothere aro many calls for welltrained men to goon to wellequip ed farms or fruit plantations at excellent wages ICstmor Hudson who became ex pert at grafting apple stocks during hubs Horticultural Course a year ago is being employed all his spare time iu putting up a lot of grafts of various varieties of apples for the Horticultur lal department S C MASON GREAT PUBLIC OCCASIONS Tho line opportunities offered at Berea for serving and hearing people who are great in some direction can not bo too much emphasized These
