SEPTEMBER 22 1904NO S8 now They Raise Funds If the plans of the republican state campaign committee do not miscarry total of 13500 will be collected from the rural mail carri ers of Kentucky to be used to help elect Roosevelt and Fairbanks and to corrupt the election in this state this fall To every rural mail carrier in the state Georgo W Long the chair man of tho finance committee has addressed a letter requesting him to send 830 to be used by the re publican campaign managers There are 450 rural mail routes in operation in the state and at 30 each tho republicans will secure 813000 from this source alone These figures show what large amounts of money the republicans are capable of raising to perpetuate themselves in power The rural mail delivery service is one of the smallest cogs in the fed eral officeholding system in Ken tucky and if they can produce 813 500 how much can the revenue men and others give Of course the practice is contra ry to law but all law and civil service rules are suspended by the republicans during a campaign The extortion of money from Sash Flooring Blinds Varandas Pickets Fronts the mail carriers is a sample of the republican methods to raise money with which to corrupt elections If 813500 is raised from the rural mailcarriers the sum total of the amount the republicans will raise in Kentucky can hardly be esti mated There are the mail carri ers in the cities rivenue men post masters and assistants pension clerks officers and clerks of the federal court of the weather bu reau and of the surveyors olllco Presiding Elder III Rev hi pcqipt of a letter from one of subscribers our publishing Willwestern so reflecting on the coun try There is good land in the west as well nl in Kentucky there are good opportunities in other parts of the world there are healthful climates in other states than in the eastern part of this State but we do claim that people of moderate means can not beat this part of Kentucky to get a start in life nor can they find a place in which they can make a living moro easily than here and consequently our peo ple who sell out here and move westward on an average do not do as well in their new location
