morn ing the fire alarm was sounded in Our little city anti it was- discovered that the Red River Hotel was in an almost solid mass of flames on the second floor Just moll the fire managed to get such a headway undetected will hover be kiiowii The alarm wrought hundreds of citizens as well its the hose from the water forks which was soon throwing r two large streams of water it the upper story For a time it seem edlB if though the building r ti would entirely consumed and spread to the adjoining buildings the barber shopsand M Roses unC men fought the stubborn flames and as it seemed at that time t with no effect At wsMlio con x tinuous how of beganEor t Shingles e have a good effect and it began to look like the flre could be so controlled as to prevent its spreading further still no one thought of saving any portion of the hotel The firemen however seemed masters of their own and soon the flames were extinguished and nIl fears of the fire spreading further vanished The building while still stand ingwith roof on is almost a complete loss as the whole of the up stairs is burned out Every par tition all the ceiling siding main studding is or more burned nearly all the rafters are burnedout and upon the whole it is a charred mass of no value Down stair the building is damaged to an almost worthless state while it was never in flames except in a few places and the cielings are largely in tact the damage from water and heat from the fire above had a most tolling effect and it most likely cannpt be used in any part with doing rebuilt the ground v The building was worth 1500
