refers to the fact that the oldfashioned parlor has seen its dnyand is not to be found in modern homes So the fine old institution is going is it Maybe it is just as well that it should go It was usually a place of silence und gloom to the children of the household a forbidden place like the secret room in Bluebeards castle Nevertheless it was the pride of intunma and the bete noir of papa who couldnt smoke there and was always leaving the blinds open so that the sun would shine in and fade the beautiful red carpet How vividly the picture of the oldfashioncd parlor comes back to the mind There was the chairsfall very shiny very slick and un comfortable The chairs stood as straight as if their perpendicular had been detormined with a plumbline and their seats were springy and bulbous The small boy who attempted to sit on one of them found himself perpetually sliding off and then crawling back on again In one corner was the whatnot an ornate affair on which were gathered cups and saucers bearing such le goad Monopoly Met its Match Senator Clark of Montana who is building a residence in New York at a cost of several million dollars came plump a gainst the exactions of monopoly early in the game and then he gave an illustration of ono way of heading oil monopoly Vile fortunately his way is not open to others He had a contract for the white granate and after some changes were made in the plans the owners of the granite quar ries wanted 250000 more for the material Senator Clark bought a quarry which was not in opera tion and proceeded to get out his own material Now the quarry is for sale Then ho bought a finishing plant and a marble facto ry and a woodwork factory and plaster plantall forthe purpose of getting out the material for his owii house His latest pur chase is a bronze factory where he will manufacture the million dollars worth of bronze to go into his cottage His associates state that ho will save immensely by all theso operations and thou have leis factories and plants for sale It is a desperate remedy for the exactions of monopoly but only men of immense wealth are able to take advantage of it The bronze plant it is stated is so valuable that it will be kept by the senator I A movement is said to be on nn n foot to combine the Avery Mo line Oliver and other leading plow faCtories into a single com pany and the Louisville plant is said to be wanted and negotia tions are now in progress Do You Want an EducationSOME THE CLAY CITY GRADED SCHOOL Clay City is located on the LkC E nilroad between Lexington and Jackson Ky The Graded School is
