ranges to a number of our people for 00 00 when they could have bought one as goodor better from any merchant in Clay City for 25 per cent less Dont be deceived by their slick talk they are trained in tho bus iness and beat anybody at that They will sell you a stove on two years time and take your note which in reality is said to be payable on demand Ifyou have an idea of purchasing a range get it of your home merchant who will at least save you 15 or 20 and give you longer time to pay for it than the traveling fakir who is only working to get your note youll have to do tho rest Our advice to all is let all peddlers and mail order hous es alone and trade only with your neighboryour home mer chant the man who helps you pay tax who helps you build school houses and churches who helps to educate your children who will go your bond if you get into trouble and who would getup at the hour of midnight and fight for the protection of your family or home Think for a moment on the other hand if you were in troub le or distress where would the fa kir and the mail order house be If your house should burn and leave you homeless and destitute of all earthly possessions where would they be If you wore innocently or otherwise thrown into jail do you think the tray eling fakir or big mailorder house whom you may have spent the most of your money with would rush up and bail you out Study about these facts seri ously before you decide to send your Jmoney so far away from home thereby directly impover ishing your merchat neighbor and indirectly impoverishing yourself and all your other neigh bors Upon the whole you will find it to your interest to always trade at home Constitutional Amendment At tho next November election the voters of Kentucky will have the privilege of voting on an amendment to the Constitution to return to the old viva voce system of voting and the doing away of the present secret ballot Tho object of the secret ballot was to prevent so much corrup tion at the polls but instead a bad matter has grown worse so much worse in fact that something must bo done and tho first step is to return to tho old method of voting There can be no reasonable objection to this t V ds w Wf as no honest man cares for the public knowing how he votes Sugar From Corn Stalks A Pennsylvania farmer who has been experimenting for sometime has made a discovery which means great things for tho farm ers of the future It is simply this that that tho removal of the ears from field corn as soon as tho silk appears seems to change the nature of the plant and turns its energies into the pro duction of sugar which other wise go to produce grain At the St Louis Worlds Fair last summer ho set up a plant and successfully manufactured sugar from these plants from which the ears had been remov ed The facts in the report of the venture are as follows A ton of stalks produced 105 pounds of high grade sugar and 25 pounds of low grade An acre of ground will yield twenty tons of stalks so at least a ton of sugar can be produced to the acre and tho cost of manufacture is not more than two cents per pound After the sugar is extracted the cornstalks make an excellent paper stockand will largely cover the expense of manufacturing the sugar Special Edition of the Times Tilt TIMES contemplates getting out an illustrated edition for the Fourth of July which will be fullof
