larger and beter developed lungs and bustwhich would greatly add to their health and longevity We breed up the domestic ani mals to greater constitutional vigor why not train up or breed up a better framed and more du rable woman and manhood The country boy is the founda tion of the State He may not have the highest education but he will win in most of the avocations of life He is generally no ted for sUcKing to his calling and succeeding on the farm or in any other class of industry He is plain in his manners quick to do his duty and though it may require laborious effort he perse veres until it is accomplished The country boy enters upon tiny duty with the will to succeed Such boys have grown up to be leading citizens and made out of themselves the model statesmen and leaders The Agriculturist certainly de sires a higher education of the country boys Jhat they may be able to cftinpete with the city boys in any pfcthe duties of life Parents should inspire a higher ambition in their boys and give them all the educational ad vantage the State can afford The hope of the nation is in the nobility and staying qualities of the country boys Southern Agriculturist Pension Report According to the report of Pen sion Examiner A T Wood there are in Kentucky twentylive widows who still receive pen sions for the war of 1812 There are no survivors in the war of 1812 and the widows receive but 8 per month For the Indian wars three survivors and twenty widows receive pensions There There are 210 survivors of the Mexican war in Kentucky who receive pensions and 407 widows The Oivil war has the largest list to its credit there being 5600 survivors and 2040 widows who receive pensions About 1000000 is distribut ed annually through the Louis ville office in pensions andout of this 628 survivors of the Span ishAmerican war are supplied and 211 widows It will be noticed that in the earlier wars the widows outnum ber the veteran by a large major ity while in the later wars the veterans outnumber the widows The reason assigned for this is that veterans marry young wives and it is probable that in twenty or thirty years from now the wid ows who receive pensions will greatly outnumber veterans of the Civil War- M Ora PSimer and W 0 Swiftt of Moreheadare guests of Assistant Cashier A T Whitt PastorS F Thompson is holding aifow nights meeting with church at Powells
