unIfavorablekinds Continued rains have re tarded the cultivation of corn and tobacco consequently these crops have suffered for want of proper cultivation There is quito a number of complaints that wheat is sprouting in the shock It is difficult to estimate the damage done in this way as only a small part of it has been thres hed Barring the damage done by recent rains the oat crop is a good one probably the best for several years The rye crop is a fair one With good weather to cultivate the tobacco it promises a good one The acreage of bur ley seems to have a small in crease over last year There is a material falling oil in acreage of the dark types Grasses promise excellent results except in a fewi counties where timothy lees not seem to have done well The po tato crop is full up to an greatest in crease is in the value of farm lands which amounts to 10447 177 the average equalized value per acre being 1107 Difference Between Farmers Wife and City Wife Last week the editor of the Agriculturist was at Midway Kentucky when an accom plished lady sitting in a surrey was pointed out as a model wo man and wife who could man age a farm as successfully as any man says the Southern Agriculturist What is the difference between the farmers wife and the official or salaried mans wife The far mers wife makes her labor prof itable At the same time she is caring for her home and rearing her children while the city wo man is merely keeping house onI her husbands salary not being herself a producer Generally in a few years the farmer has a home and a business of his ownJ while the salaried man is still upI on a salary with no brighter prorpects than when he beganI This is an argument why thei girls should qualify themselves for domestic duties of rural lifes as there is more profit and pleasure in well managed homes than a city life where you have to buy the very water you drinkIThe county woman is the piest of women A dollar always looks bigger when you pay it back than when 3 pu borrow it i 4- r Teachers Institute in Clay CityI The Powell County Teachers Institute will convene in Olav City next Monday with Prof W R Eubank as principal This will be the first are at the pres ent time about two thousand young men on the East Side who never start out to have a time without equipping themselves with pistols Perhaps nine out of ten of the crimes of violence which take place in Little Italy Chinatown and the regions thereabout do not reach the news papers nor become cases of record They have a way of set tling their difficulties among themselves and denying all knowledge of them to the police When these two thousand young men however range a broad to Coney Island and Har lem resorts when they get drunk on cheap whiskey and begin to shoot
