Ones That Will Wla by Increas ed Majorities W M TheDemocrats of Clay City knot in mass convention at the court room Saturday night but the house was much too small to accommodate t11e enthused crowd so they repaired to the Gymnasium Hall where the business be fore the body was skillfully + and satisfactory transacted Frank Webb was elected chairman and Geo W Andersonwas chosen secretary W T Webb Dr Bertram Smith and J E Burgher were appointed a com mittee on resolutions They of fered the following resolutions which were unanimously adopt ed and ordered published in the OLAY CITY TIMES Wet the Democrats of Clay City in mass convention assem bled for the purpose of nominat ing candidates for city offices make thofollowing resoultions 1st That we approve of the call the time and place for hold ing this meeting I 2nd That we indorse 1e wise and prudent D nlocratic administration as m nifested jn the present city council 8rd That wepoint with pride to the successful Democratic state and county administrations as models of proper government 4th That pure democracy should hold herself aloof from nil the contaminating influences of Republican policies in cities of the fifth class ns well as in coun ty state and national affairs for as the branches wither and decay so must the trunk succumb Nominations were then taken up and owing to the large crowd present the usual method of vot ing by private ballot had to be dispensed with and the order was made to take a division of the houseSquire T J Fletcher and Judge W T Adams were nominated for Police Judge The division of the house showed the vote close and a count was made showing JudgeJFletcher to have n majori ty of eight votes When the vote was announced the nanfe Fletcher was so loudly and unan imously called that lie responded with a nice little address which brought forth many cheers Jndge Adams the defeated can didate also made a nice speech p edg1Jl his henry to Judge Fletcherwhich was also loudly cheered Mayor
