Proposition thelroadwho is amply able to fulfill all proposifions he may make offers if a movement of the right kind can be brought about to con struct and and prbperly complete one mile of first class pike pro vided of course other citizens will likewise complete the other fourteen miles of said road What about this Think of one citizen offering to construct one fifteenth of the whole road On this route it seems that fourteen other such enterprising farmers should be found and the work completed Besides there is a lot of aid that can be obtained from persons interested but not able to do so much Such ollers as tho above are encouraging indeed It shows that others are becoming surely interested and that the move ment is growing with men of a bility Powell vs Lee The Republican nominees ask your voto for county offices claiming tjuit the present admin istration has been extravigant in the allowance of claims and etc Lets see take Lee county under Republican rule for comparison In that county which is about the same in size taxable proper ty and etc they levy a tax of BO cents on tho hundred and last year allowed claims aggregating FrrrO 5 iduiili s bul1 2 00 or one firth more than was allowed by Powellcounty and in Powell tho tax levy has been lowered to 40 cents while in Lee it remains 50 cents By the above comparison it will be seen that Republican coun ties instead of being more eco nomical as claimed fs far more extravigant if it can be called extravigance It costs something to keep up the county affairs re gardless of which party is in power The expense may be kept up by wind with tho hun gry office seekers but when the time comes it takes the cash J Editor and DC tor If an editor makes a mistake ho has to apologize for it but if a doctor makes ono ho buries it If tho editor snakes oho thpre is a lawsuit swearing and tho smell of sulphur but if time doctor makes one there is a funertil cut flowers and a smell of varnish The doctor can use a word a yard long without knowing what it means but if the editor uses it he has to spell it If the doctor gtes to see another mans wife he charges for the visit but if the editor goes to see another mans wife he gets a charge of buck shot When a doctor gets drunk its a cape of overcome by heart and if he dies it is heart trouble When an editor gets drunk its a case of too much booze and if he dies its a case of delirium tremens Any old medical college can make a doctor You cant make an editor He has to be born Exchange Everything in uptodate Dress Goods and at Popular prices Mrs J Williams rV I what every one of them will come in like a top There is no excuse for any scratching and there will be but little All the candidates are our nominee sound Democrats and worthy gentlemen Then why are they not entitled to the partys united support Albert Easter for Representative Geo M Derickson for County Judge and Edward Rose for County Clerk are the only ones on the county and dis trice ticket that have opposition The Republicans only hope of success in this county is to break into the lines of Democracy by preaching up some great scarecrow bugaboo reports when they really know that there is nothing at all in them Powell county is a small coun ty nevertheless the formal ex pense of the county government is in Powell the same us in ether counties of millions of Taxable property We can boldly and we believe truthfully say that there Is not a county in the State where its officers have been as poorly paid for their services as jnPowellIn face of all these facts the county levy hasbeen lowered to 40 cents on the hundred dollars which nodoubt will be as low as anycounty in the State for next year andprobably the lowest rate ever collected in Pow ell county Can we expect or hope for anything better than this under a Republican administration especially if one is placed at th head of affairs that has had practically no experience infiscal af fairs even like the writer There ill cbngequently no tj A i y t cause for alarmin the couhty af fajrs it is nil an electioneering scheme hatched up to get votes from the Democratic ranks hoed county government will continue with the ole6tion of ev ery Democrat in tllo race Figures don t lie rend Claims allowed in the Re publican county of Lee this year 711052 Claims allowed for the same time in the Democratic v comity of Powell 5204 59 Difference 1905 98 The above comparison is not made to cast any reflection on the Lee county authorities because they happen to be Republicans but to show that it costs money to run county matters in any county arid when there hap pens to be a difference it always some way or other seems to bo in favor of Democratic government like tho above facts and figures showAnd again Powell county has had to defray the expense of hold ing a local option election the past year Had this election not been held the annual expenses of the county would have been less than 5000 these figures cannot be lowered by any fiscal court in the State The most encouraging reports come from Estill county in tho race for Representative The ar ray against the Republican nom inees was never so solid and the fight grows more hopeful from day to day All conservative voters in position to know with whom we have talked say the boys will win If such be the case and we are sure it is our candidate for Representative Hon Albert Easter will alto come in His chances are ex= cei1tiTtllyb 1L1ffaiie sVillfo to Estill with al least 150 majority and some are now figuring on 200 One of our friendstold the editor once we were not fit for any thing but a newspaper man In a sense he possibly told the truth We took no exceptions of course not Dr Knox is a fine physician well qualified as such is a whole souled good fellow Judge Derickson has had a great deal of experience as County Judge and while he is well qualified for anything that comes his way ho is certainly no better fitted for any thing else than County Judge arid there isnot a man in the county better fitted for the office than the Judge Vote the ticket straight Democrats dontbe deceived at any report you may hear on our nbminees Keep ever in mind an honest man who when ho started out to run for office soon came off the truck because his opponents who had told that he had stolen a sheep was fixing to 11rovo it on him The statement
