of Clark county as a candidate for Congress from the Tenth Con gressional district subject to the action of the Democratic party President Roosevelt has made the election of Bryan probable by edii eating the country to see the cor rectness of Mr Bryans position Both of these men have rendered great service to their country Without Bryan the country would never have been awakened to its evils and without Poosevelt there would have never been no remedial legislation Mr Roosevelt by has speeches has educated several mill ions of Republicans against the Insurance Trust the Standard Oil Trust the Railroad Trust and the Beef Trust and these same Repub licans all see now where Mr Bryan was right and in 1908 many of them will vote for him to curry out the refoms that Roosevelt has dragged his unwilling party to beginEx The action of the grand jury in itsreccoeiitfsrssiutr + fOJcfrrUYI exhonorates the Fiscal Court of Powell and every county official in the county and vindicates them of the charges which prompted the investigation No corruption or graft could be found by the grand jury after a days diligent search Being acquainted as we are with each of the county officers we were confident of the exhoneration Read the concluding report of the grand jury pn the first page of this weeks issue Gov J 0 W Beckham has formally announced for the U nited States Senate to succeed Senator McOreary Mr McOrea ry has made a good senator as Beckhum has made Governor and we see no need for a change McOreary is all right and as the matter will be settled by primary this fall we believe that Mr McOreary will be retained in his sea tby a handsome vote He evidently stands all right in Powoll and will carry the county by large majority Every Democrat in the United States seems to be for Bryan for President in 1008 The old party has learned that United we Stand Divided we Fall and have come together and together on a man that is true to the people and honest in his convic tions It takes the same qualities and the application of the same princi pies to build up a town that it does to build upa private business Say that the stockholders in some Clay City enterprise should each conclude to let the other fellow shoulder all the responsibiHtyneg lent Hobusiness and let it run any old way How long would such art enterprise continue to prosper The game rule applies to municipality The different citizens of Clay City are stockholders in the town They pay the municipal expenses in the way of taxes and they receive divi dends in the way of public improve ments and service Each citizen therefore has a responsibility the same as a stockholder in a private business concern Ills responsibility extends further than payiny taxes for it is a duty ho owes himself his family and the entire community to exert his influ epee andhis efforts toward the in dustriul moral and educational up building of the town Several new automobile lines will be established in Central
