interesting or re quires so little attention Stray Steer There came to my place about three weeks ago a pale red steer weighing about C50 pounds in medium condition Owner will please prove the property pay charges and get the animal J H Dawson Spout Spring Ky Note change in Clay City National Bank ad this week v- V f 1 t Big Day With Juniors CONTINUED PHOM iasr WEEK r The evolution theory for time origin of man granting it to be true could produce only a little higher order of animal than the monkey but just as much nn an imal as the monkey or rhinoc eros We would then have only a race of animals without a soul with the inner man to live on when the body dies The whole being of man would be dead when the body dies He would live for a few days or years and then go out like the horse and that would be the end But when we accpt the account of tho direct creation of man I1S given by Moses then we have a two fold being an outer man or physical man and an inner man or spiritual man that does not die when the body dies We have then a being of such a nature that when the body dies and returns to the dust from whence it came the spirit the inner man the soul lives on and as Solomon said returns Uto God who gave it and who will judge it through Jesus our Lord What a wonderful difference between Moses account of the origin of man and that of tho infidels of modern times If wo admit these theories to be correct we had just as well put up a cardat the entrance of all our cemete ries with these plain words writ ten thereon Death is an eternal sleep In that case the very existence of this universe would be an enigma a perfect blank as to design or purpose The whole thing would be an impenetrable mystery all the world through all time could not solve it But with the Bible ac count of the origin of the uni verse and of man in our hands all is plain Without the Bible and the information it gives if we educate a man we have noth ing but an educated animal He soon dies passes out and is brought to an end he drops into a gulf of eternal darkness of non entity and there is no reason to be assigned as to why he should have lived at all But if the Bi ble be put into the hands of a childand he is taught its divine truths as ho grows up and be comes capable of understanding them he is impressed with the fact that he is a being from the hands of God with a body and a spirit or soul that is capable of endless development and im provement and in this way he is given encouragement for effort study and mental expansion that nothing else in all the world could give For us to understand what the Bible has done and is doing in the education development and elevation ofmen it is necessary to contrast Bible lands with these lands that have never in any way enjoyed the benefits of a revelation from God It takes something like this to ena ble a people to see and realize what a knowledge of the word of Godcan do what it has done tend is now doing Contrast the contrition of the United States or England with the condition of Africa or China where the peo pIe have never had any sort of association with people that have the Bible and this contrast will tell the whole story of the influ ence of the word of God upon the hearts and lives of those who have enjoyed its benefits through life and whose ancestors for ma ny generations have enjoyed its- elevatingpower Take the precious word of God from men with all it has done for them in all the generation of the past J 1 4 nfl and nothing will be left to stun ulate draw out develop a ml en large inans intellectual and nUJra pow rs nothing will be left worth striving for beyond food and raiment In such a con dition there is nothing left whatever to stimulate u man to work for eternity for any thing be yond this short life and what will help him through it It is not the things of this life or the seeking after them that elevate develop ennoble and purify the soul the inner man it is look inc out after the things that pertain to the inner man and the things that perpare him for his true relations with the Almighty with all the pure and holy here and with the spirits of the pure and holy in the eternal home of the soul that elevates and puri fies There is nothing that has ever led or can ever lead people along this line but the word of God Even in Bible lands the people that enjoy the general influence and knowledge of God and his word but take no inter est in the wellbeing of the inner man here or hereafter are not the people that are truly elevat ed and purified in the inner man Seeking after the things of time and since the mere matter of feeding and clothing the phys ical man the securing of money and property j the mere wealth and emoluments of this life and of this world never lifts up ex pands draws out or develops the inner man or makes it more like God But the man who is forever longing for struggling for and earnestly seeking after God j who reaches out beyond earth and seeks after the things that pertain to God and heaven andeternal association with God the holy angels and the spirits of all the pure in the home be j cMtrtsah01t4iilinhtMnmr who is truly educated elevated andrefined These things being true how important it is that the young be taught a knowledge of the word of God of the things that pertain to the interests of the soul Neglect of this matter is fatal Since all things per taining to the inner man the el evation of the soul have to be learned from the word of God how important that this word be taught to the young in the tender and impressible period of life the time when lasting im pressions can be most easily made Parents and guardians can never be too careful along this line yet this is the very pe riod in which this the most important matter in all the world is largely neglected When children are put in school their hands and heads are filled with books which are supposed to qualify them for business for the parlor or society while the soul the inner man the part that never dies is left out their parents and guardians expecting that part of their education to be attended to in after years when their minds are already filled with other things This is a sad mistake Suppose that the word of God be put into the hands of children as soon as they are com petent to read and understand its simplest lessons and be kept there and made more and more prominent as their minds expand andstrengthen until they grad unte and come out of school then the precious and eternal truths of the gospel of Christ are thoroughly planted in their young and tender hearts and the energizing ennobling and elevating power of these precious truths and principles will be so fixed asto lead the soul onward and where changes nerecolne 1Vhy- should a iii tgr ofsitch itpr ll1o importance beso sadly neglected Again since the word of God the gospel of Christ has al ready accomplished much for humanity though so sadly neg lected among the young what would be the result if the word of God was thoroughly planted in the hearts of nil the children so that they could grow up with its preciouseelevating and life giving truths so thoroughly fixed as to become the guide of their lives It would be impossible for any man to foretell the won derfully extensive Outcome of such a course in the years to come May the time Soon come when all will give more atten tion to these matters and see that there is a Holy Bible placed in every school house in cities villages and country and an A merican Flag over it and it read without any comment by teacher and pupil so as to instill into the hearts of the people of each Free School district of these United States the grand and sublime lesson of Morality Christianity and Patriotism these are the principles for which this Grand fraternal and patrioticnl Jr 0 U A M order stands Ladies and Gentlemen I wish farther to state that the Juniors order is oppsed to all things that are detrimental to the progress of the American people and that is the reason why that we are in favor of the restriction of undesirable immigration It is a certain fact that there is no problem of more vital impor tance to the American people than foreign immigration It is antagonistic to the educational facility of this free nation o- ffsIwisltllGl640ivefrom the best statistics attainable the number that are being dumped on our shores During the year 1874 ending Juno 80th there were landed in the cities of New York Philadelphia Boston Jersey City Chicago Cincinnati and other cities in America 1010080 in the year of 1875 ending June 80th 1028400 Out of this number there were only 8200 that could read and write leaving 2 048270 that could neither read nor write Since the year of 1850 the population of foreigners in NewYork and York towns has in creased from 515000 to over 4 000000 and I find of this num ber 000000 are of foreign birth Since April 10th 1870 there were landed in America 177820 imi grants from Europe in 1005 Southern Italy sent more than this number of imigrants to New York City In the year of 1870 there were 000000 sons of Italy crossed our borders Today near ly a Quarter of a million Italians are seeking homes on Ameri can soil Ladies find Gentlemen it is certainly clear to be seen that if there is nut a restriction put up on immigration that the free A merican born people must suffer These illiterate Italians Hunga rians and Poles paupers that come to our shores bring with them the dark coats of cruelty ignorance and superstition They are of no good to their own coun try and detrimental to all Amer ican interests The subject of immigration can not be consider ed too seriously in considering the dangers of immigration to the American interests The greatest of care must bo taken by us to protect our own interests It should be remembered that practically all immigrants who camO i a N h1 tI a5 to this country before 180 were from Southern Europe such men aq John ttnd Charles Wesley who in 1727 tore loose from the op reiglihdsoil to enjoy freedom and liberty of thought and reform the high church of England From the ar duous labor these great men the great Methodist family was born in America while John Wesley himself never was a member of the so called Methodist Episco pal Church but lived and died a member of the High Church of England yet from his love of liberty and of freedom the great family of Methodists has done muchand lasting good in Amer ica Today all over these United States his followers are preach ing the gospel of Jesus Christ men and women are being saved from sin We might speakof Martin Luther who from a knowledge of Gods Booksaw the oppression of the Old World and gave to the Germans King James translation of the Holy Scriptures Next is Benjamin Rnndles E J Drinkhous Roger Williams and many more who carne here because they wanted to live in a free country They realized the blessings of freedom and liberty and came here to get rid of the oppression and yoke of bondage of their Old Home They came here themselves pay- Ing the expense that it cost them to come they came facing the terrors of an unknown ocean cut their way through a primival forest facing savage tribes to build their homes and to help to establish this republic But My Dear Sirs and Madams I want to say that the question of immi gration in time past and the question of immigration today are entirely different problems to con aider Iheyareas different as light is from darkness or black from white because we are re ceiving entirely a different kind of people we may want and do want of our own blood and kind but we do not want these low degraded good for nothing paupers dumped in our midst It is a certain fact that immigration brings with it disease immorali ty ignorance superstition and anarchy It is immigration that is feeding the Roman Catholic church it is immigration that is feeding the liquor traffic immigration is antagonistic to the working man Unlimited immi gration is an enemy to every la boring man in these United States Every immigrant arrives here is one more to compete with the laboring man It is easy to be seen that unrestricted Immigration of Italians Poles and Bohemians is antagonistic to the good honest American laborer If there were fewer foreigners incur coal mines railroads fac tories and cities the American borer would receive better wages and America would have better schools better morals and better churches Seeing and knowing these facts it is high time that we awake to a realization of the best needs of the American peo ple And I wish to say Ladies snd Gentlementhis is the purpose to main tain and promote the interests of American und shield them front the depressing effects of foreign competition to assist Americans in obtaining employment j to en courage Americans in business to establish a sick and funeral fund to maintain the public school system of the United
