the Powell County Deposit Bank shows 72 34155 making a total Deposit in the two Powell county banks of 23145086 Powell county has a population of 0448 according governmentcensuscounting lywhich is the averngethere are 1288 families We find then i that there is for each family in the county deposited in the banks of the county a fraction over 10550 A real nice little sum for n rainy day And for each man woman and child in the connty there is 3312 This sum is far above the average of Ken thatIour people are not so poor after all Besides the showing made a bove many of the business firms doing business in the county have accouhts with banks out of the county and so have some of our citizens There is also sev eral thousand dollars carried a round in our farmers jeans that is never placed in any bank So upon the whole Powell county people are not yet paupers and have the cash to buy up several thousand more acres of bluegrass land like they have been doing in the pasti ctLocal Option Election Valid The Court of Appeals has affirm 1J dge T3ehtons decision in the Tom Colo case which means that the local option elec tion iii this county is held valid withno further appeal to be made Tom Colo was indicted forselling whiskey in Powell county after local option was in force His defense was that the local option was illegal so proof was admitted to show wherein the election was illegal The de fense claimed that whereas n special registration was not held in Clay City and Stanton to pro vide means for voters to get cer tificates where they had been lost deprived many voters of participating in the election therefore making it illegal Judge Benton sustained the elec tion nshas the Court of Appeals This settles the controversy and Powell county in full is local option Must
