ofI Bridge at Walters Ferry to be Completed by June 15IThe six subscription papers which have been circulated the past three or four weeks in an effort to raise sufficient money to construct free highway steel bridge across Red river at Wal ters Ferry two miles Southof this city last week showed enough money raised to pay for the construction of the bridge whereupon the committee provided for in such subscription papers met last Friday in con ference with A E Rankins rep resentutive of the Champion Bridge Co and contracted with this company for the erection of a steel bridge afcthis point The bridge will be a 00 foot span 12I foot clear roadway and support ed on 24 inch steel tubes filled with concrete standing 20 feet above ordinary low water The contract price is 160000 Of this amount the county has sub scribed 60000 and the remain der as shown in last weeks issue of this paper has been raised by private subscription The bridge will be completed by June 15th George W Wells has given the right of way for the bridge on the north side of the river and the county is negotiating with Curtis Bowman for the right of way on the soutbside- According to the provisions of the subscription papers the con struction of the bridge was tQ be in the hands of a committee com posed of the five largest subscrib ers to the fund The four largest subscribers are R Do Ramsey BrodheadGarrett Co G W McIntosh and J E Burgher The next largest amount sub scribed was 2500 whichamount was subscribed by twelve per sons The four largest subscribers with Mr Ramsey absent selected A T Whitt from the twelve equal subscribers to serve as the lacking member of the committee J E Burgher was sleeted Chairman of the commit tee and J Crows Rash was elect ed Secretary and Treasurer When the bridge is completed it will be of noted benefit to Clay City and a large territory south of the river Most persons inter ested have subscribed very liber al to the fund and we are sure they will never see the tune to regret it The committee after completing the bridge will like about 30000 for the approaches on the two sides so the subscrip tion fund must continue to roll in order to raise this amount yet The excess on the bridge fund goes to the approaches J E Niblack has moved to Ir vine where he will run an ice cream and soda water stand We judge Mr Niblack will find Ir vine a good point to conduct such business as there is no other soda water stand or ico cream par for inthe town A full line of cakes candies and fruHStti Andersons Grocery I HARDWICKQRIQSBY Mr John H Hardwick
