inhabitants and the constant demand for houses attests that this number will be increased to 2000 before the first of next year Why not our merchants confine themselves more strictly to par ticular lines and more complete lines It seems to us that this is the only way to hold the local trade and it is certain that this is tho only plan to secure a por tion of out side trade When a fellow has to select his neckware clothing etc from the same counter on which is stacked bacon flour crosscut saws fly paper and a general mess of stuff its easy to see why so much trade goes to Richmond and other places If our mer chants will divide up the depart ments and add a better and mroe complete stock to some particular line we believe they can command most of the trade that now geos to other places The Associatoin has been most liberal in its appropriations for different classes of cattle and the cattle associations have rec ognized the importance of the Fair by handsome donations on their part The American Short horn Breeders Association has appropriated 025 to be added to tho amount appropriated by tho Fair Association and the whole forms a total for Shorthorn cattle which insures u tremendiously good show The Aberdeen Angus Breeders Association has given the Blue Grass Fair the only ippropriation which it has made for the State of Kentucky in amount 200 and the black cattle will certainly be well represented at Lexington the week of August 12th to 17th There is also a splendid premium list for Herefords In the dairy class the whole amount has been appropriated for Jerseys The management of the Blue Grass Fair has taken the round that this is tho only breed if dairy cattle which interests ho people of Kentucky It be ieves it would be bad policy and- t sues no advantage be gained lv offering premiums for other hairy breeds which would simply law one exhibitor from another state to come to Lexington and I take away the whole amount of the premiums offered without in any
