option election of yesterday is very satisfactory to the temperance forces They carried every precinct in the county but Hardwicks creek which was 84 wet Stanton was the banner dry precinct giving 101 majority for the temperance cause Olay City went forty dry All day was a busy one for both sides in Olay Oity It was a fine day and a large vote was out There was plenty of money on the wet side while the temperance people did not sit idly by and see exhausted all the ma terial to be worked upon For a time it looked as if though this city would be lost but victory was won in a hard fought con test The returns complete are as follows Stanton Dry 101 Olay Cityr 40 Virden x 20 Slade a 21l North Fork 20 Bowen 45 Hardwicks Creek Wet 84 Total Dry Majority 281 The temperance people are re joicing exceedingly The vote in the county three years ago gave about onehalf the current ma jority which shows how the cause is growing and that the people of Powell are in keeping with all parts of the country in the great temperance wave If the question continues to spread it will in a few years be a national is sue Sues for Valuable Property Some time last summer we made mention of some valuable mineral leases of John W Mc Kinney of this city and the heirs W E and D R McKinney in Menefee county Upon this sub jecta special from Mt Sterling says Suit has been filed in Mene fee county by John W McKinney and the heirs of D E and W E McKinney against the Central Kentucky Natural Gas Company which is supplying the cities of Mt Sterling Lexington and Winchester contesting the title to some of the most valua ble property the gas company possesses It is claimed that the McKinney brothers together with Wood 0 Dollins bought tho min eral rights in tho lands on which the wells are situated in the year 1871 long before the leases of the gas company were made The original purchase of time Mc Kinneys is on record at French burg the county seat of Meuofee and the plaintiffs claim the gas company could and should have known of it when they took their lease The suit does qot ask damage or claim any specific a S- v1 mount for any cause but simply raises the question of title If it should be decided that the Me Kinneys are the real owners then the gas company will have to make some settlement with them or move off John McKinney of Clay City Powell county is the only one of the original
